Casey,

Good show! I like your line up of favorites as well. Those are some of my top picks as well. Performance + top down = awesome motoring. I've got my eye towards the Mondial cabrio as well.

Now you just need to update your "Best Cars" webpage to replace your car's pic for that Mondial 3.2's pic.

Cheers.

Wow, I am impressed! I am 36 years old and am biting my fingernails at the prospect of a Ferrari (of course, if I were single, it would less of a decision, heh). Congrats on that car, you are the man!

I bet I know who you will be rooting for at Indy in two weeks! I will be there, and will keep an eye out for your car!

Casey,
Congratulations! It is awesome to see people of your generation who have an excellent work ethic, set goals, and enjoy the blessing of being able to achieve your goals. You are to be commended.

Or if it was snowing....that tercel was front wheel drive, no? In the winter, you can go to a bar & tell the girls about Casey's car, then drive them in the Tercel over to his house to see it, bring out some drinks & keep the girls warm by the fireplace....but now I'm digressing :-)

Andrew - Mechanically, the Tercel was a marvel, took loads and loads of miles with almost no service. Aesthetically - let's just say that my only hope would have been to give rides to the girls who couldn't pile into Casey's car ...

Casey, that's great that you saved your money and were able to purchase a Ferrari while you're still in college! You're on the fast track program... it took me much longer for my first. Enjoy your Mondial and the many more Ferraris, that I know you will be purchasing in the future.

Casey,I have been wanting a Ferrari, since a little longer than you've been born! I got my first one when I was 40! So,good for you! By the time your'e 40,who knows how mant Ferrari's you'll own,or,have owned. Also, where EXACTLY do you go to college? We could hang out with 2 Ferrari's ,but, you can fit more ladies in yours! I've been thinking about "re-enlisting" in College,(but was thinking more along the lines of Florida,Arizona,or California...) GOT TO get away from these BRUTAL Chicago winters! When you get to be my age (43) you start achin' when the weather gets cold... and forget what college girls are like...(OW! MY old lady just popped me in the head for that one!) Thats why I want to get away...(ow!!!) just kidding!!!! enjoy your car!!!

Hey- I have a similiar story Casey- I got my first car with money I saved with my own lawn mowing business as well- started saving when I was 12, and when I was 16 and 6 mos. (6 months before license- still on learning permit) I paid $10,000 for a 1978 Porsche 911SC targa. Kept trading up over the past 15 years to where I have my second and third favorite cars (BMW 540 & Porsche cab). Still working on my first favorite though- Ferrari (355 spider 6-speed)

You have experienced setting a goal, working hard for it, and reaping the rewards- much like pretty much anyone on this board, and let me be one to say-Congratulations!! It's the best feeling to earn it, and quite a lession to learn- shows that you can do anything if you set your mind to it!

Congratulations Casey - its a beautiful car. I hope you enjoy her. You seem like you have a good head on your shoulders and are your own man (taking the risk of annoying your parents). Best of luck with your studies and continued success.

And it was an excellent choice, Casey. I'm impressed with your understanding of the meaning of the dollar and the value of hard work. This is a trait not usually evident in contemporaries of your vintage. I wish you success in your studies.

To answer some questions:
1)Yes, I did pay for it myself, and I paid top dollar. I have run a land scaping business since I was 12 and have saved up a nice nest egg.-So im not a spoiled rich kid as much as I wish I was.
2)My parents, not being car people or knowing the mondial reputation (+it just had the 30k service), did go nuts when they discovered I had already bought the car and it was being delivered ("its my money I said,"), -yeah like that helped!
3)I am a student at the University of Dayton and am a finance major in the school of business administration. I plan to get my MBA at UCLA or Standford.
4)I owned a mercedes 560sl and an explorer before the F-. As much as I love the 308, I like the mondial even more, so it was my choice. Thanks. -Casey

Thanks for your support, it makes me feel better about making such a lavish purchase at such a young age.

i think that comment from Casey is a direct indication (at least, to me) that he paid for this car himself, with his own, earned money... It's not unusual for a 20 year old to be able to afford a car like this- granted, it's not commonplace, but it's not unheard of, either...

Even if his parents paid for it, is that such a problem...? There's nothing wrong with being a rich kid; it's the spoiled rich kids that make me cringe...

Congrats Casey

While some people may scoff at your choice of car, the truth is that you have made a better investment than any of your friends who are going out and buying Golfs and Civics. You get to drive around in a Ferrari and maybe even turn a profit when you sell it in a few years. Way to go!!!

Let's not forget that at 20 years of age you are probably not looking for a wife so the car can help you bag a few trophy girlfriends.

I think Casey is really Doogie Howser and has already graduated med school and is now one of the top orthopedic surgeons out there.

Casey, congrats man. Some of the members here have started very early with their F- purchases. Doesn't hurt to start early, you learn all the painful lessons during a time when you can recover... ie. buying a F- and then spending your kid's tuition on the 30K service.

Questions for Casey (just because I'm curious):

1) How many cars did you own if any before the F-
2) Did you buy the car yourself?
3) What did your parents say when you came home with it, or did they know in advance.
4) How are you going to pay attention in class when your baby is parked on right across the frat with the jealous frat bros.
5) becareful of police officers. I am not nearly as young as you but I got pulled over once w/o registration and he told me my dad would get in big trouble if I drove w/o registration. I knew better than to correct him, but it was degrading nevertheless. I don't blame him though.

My God:

A convertible Ferrari in College, that I can stuff 3-4 college girls in. Wow. Can I go back in time, please....

Congrats Casey. Have fun, run the girls crazy, and enjoy. Just, what ever you do, do NOT drink and drive in that thing. You will be pick up and put in jail faster than you can think it. There will not be many police officers who will be simpathetic and all will want to nail you. Drink water!!

Have fun, I'm jealous!!

Yes, this is my only car at the moment. Since I go to college in Ohio but live in Indiana it will be a garage queen during the winter (would never park it on a college campus!). It was my daily driver all summer and I put about 300 miles on it and only had to change the oil. Hope its the same story at this time next year.

I am a 20 year old college student and I just bought my first ferrari this summer. I had looked for about a year before I found exactly what I wanted. It is an flawless low miles red '85 mondial cabriolet. I just wanted to let everyone know that this site was a great help in finding the best ferrari for the money. Thanks everyone. My car has been a mechanical dream so far, but I am sure I will need your help down the road. I hope you are all still as excited about your ferraris as I am.
