>>From everything i heard Ferrari gives these obsolete F1 cars at a small fraction of their cost but they will never talk to you unless maybe if you are Italian Royalty<< Not true... Nick Mason banged up an retired F1 car, contacted the factory, and they rebuilt it (if memory serves) free of charge, he just paid shipping. No, I wasn't high when I read the article. I"ll find the cite tonight. |

A few years ago I read that the Sultan of Brunei had an example of every championship winning F1 car from 1980 on. This was including the Williams and Ferrari that JV and MS drove in '97, complete with race damage from the final round. The article also mentioned that he had a Renault F1 car from the early 80's that does not run because Renault will not give him the computer software required to start the engine. Would these cars be similar, containing secret computer algorithms that might prevent them from ever being anymore than museum pieces?

If you ever want to drive it you need to get an older FI cars before all the computer/electronics. Otherwise, you will need several computer guros with laptops with you at the track everytime you want to drive it. There is a guy here in Atlanta that bought a mid 1990s F1 car and even the dealer can't keep it running for him as they don't have all the electronis crap needed. It now just sits in his garage collecting dust. If you get an older simpler F1 car, you can have it detuned a little and have more fun with it. |

I can tell you you can buy the ex Schumacher Beneton Car for $250,000 with engine and running condition. I believe it is the 94. Looks great but is no Ferrari. Then it beat the Ferraris back then hands down |

The cars cost around USD1million. Anyone can buy it but you have to go through your dealer. When I went to the factory in April 2000, Michael's car that raced in Sepang and Suzuka was on display at the reception office. Our dealer made some discreet enquiries and by the time we were back home the price was quoted at around USD1 million. The sale can be made but the delivery complete with engine and spares can only be made 2 years after the car/engine has ceased racing. Meaning the 1999 car can only be delivered in end of 2001. You don't have to be an Italian royalty to own one. Just show them your money. Current F1 cars are too complicated now for normal mechanics to take care, so they are not as much in demand as the old racers. |

Dr. Bob and Brent are correct. The team is headed by two ex-F1 mechanics. The support is not cheap, but is very well qualified. William is not correct. |

I believe that division is the "Corse Clienti" department that's listed at the bottom of the pdf ads in the first post. |

I heard somewhere that Ferrari has a special devision to keep their old F1-cars going, because it's part of their history. You van say I want to race then and then, and they send a few mechanics to push the right buttons, and you can race. It will cost some dollars, but that's what I've heard. |

A lot of these end up in the hands of guys like Michael Sheehan (or brokered through him, anyway), or Symbolic Motorcars or Modena Motorsport in Germany. So, take heart, even if you're not Italian royalty, you may be able to get your hands on one (after the requisite middleman markups, of course)... |

I see that Ferrari are offering 3 cars for sale, an ex Eddie Irvine 399, a 2000 Barrichello and a 2001 Schumaker. Any ideas how much these would go for, and do Ferrari offer technical assistance as part of the package when you want to run these cars at track days or annual Ferrari events?
