Thanks for that story,Skip. I was unaware of that. I'm getting too used to Arizona,(I go out there alot) and you can carry an unconcealed weapon out there. But,losing the things that I worked very hard for is a very sensitive subject for me. Once, lost everything,EVERYTHING,in a flood. No flood insurance where I was staying at the time. Then, after many years of hard work, lost EVERYTHING,AGAIN,in a divorce. So,now if some scumbag punk is gonna try to rip me off,all he's going to get is a piece of .357 MAGNUM lead in his ass,as a permanent reminder of the event, and to remind him to never do it again. But,would rather have the law do what it's SUPPOSED to do,really. A couple warning shots, and held at bay for the cops would suffice! But,it's a VERY PATHETIC LEGAL SYSTEM that we have, when someone TRESPASSES on YOUR property,in order to STEAL said property, and if you shoot the bastard,YOU get in trouble and can get sued. B.S.!!! (wasn't there another thread about lawyers, somewhere on F-chat? What would a lawyer say about that?)

i had a pet snake when i was younger; i loved him... His name was Squeeze Me... i took him out of the house and went for walks with him; even took him to the grocery store a few times... He was a red tail Boa Constrictor; got him when he was just about 18 inches long; last i saw, he was over 5 feet long...

Ok, that's about all i can contribute to this thread...

Skip, your old girlfriends father should have dragged the guy in the house and said he was an intruder.

In Texas, what will get you is the civil suit cases. An armed robber can come in and hold your family hostage and you can save your family killing the intruder, but if the jury doesn't vote in your favor you can be out money.

Rob-

You've got that right, I should move to Texas.

In Illinois, there are some strange stories of victims becoming overzealous in protecting their property, and the victim became the offender.

Years ago, the father of my girlfriend at the time, was in his home and heard his car, which was parked in the driveway, start.

He looked out the window and saw a thief stealing his car. He grabbed his gun and shot the guy as he was starting to drive away; he didn't kill him.

The father was arrested, and sued by the thief.

I don't recall if he served any jail time, but he did have considerable legal expenses. Also, I believe the thief won the lawsuit against him.

Bottom line was that he used excessive force, when neither his, nor members of his family lives were in danger!

Frank, I know Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson also. Did you know they have 6 brothers? If it ever happens, send the person 2 warning shots........to the head!

The "secutity overkill" is mostly for Juniors new dirt bike :-) But,if some scumbag wants to steal any of the property that I worked my ass of for, it's not gonna be pretty :-)

Frank-

I'd call your security overkill; 308s aren't the sought after car by thieves.

And watch your use of Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson for security measures. Unless your life, and members of your family are in danger by a perp, the use of excessive force can make you the criminal.

My philosophy.......if someone wants any of my cars bad enough to steal them, let them have them. They're all covered by insurance!

Also, if a 'professional', has an 'order' for a car like yours, there's very little you can do to prevent him/her from getting it.

Alarms, kill switches etc., are just a minor hindrance to a professional.

Aside from the alarm on my double locked garage,2 alarms on my locked car,and a hidden kill switch, I have a couple of gentlemen named Smith and Wesson that help me out with security.

The geckos are pretty small and not very colorful. They roam wild in our house. You'll look over and see them on the wall.

Geckos! I like geckos but never seen them around except in cages at the pet store, if you ever come down this way we have Six Flags Marine World before known as Marine World Africa USA and they have the same type of set up with all the wild animals from marine to land animals plus it being a theme park it's great for kids.

And on a recent trip to Arizona. Lots of scorpions-big and small(unfortunately,in the hotel room!),geckos all over the place,a mother quail with about a dozen liitle ones, coyotes, vultures, eagles, baby jackrabbit. Theres a really cool zoo called The World Wildlife Zoo,about 15-20 miles west of Phoenix,by Luke AFB., where you can feed Giraffes and other critters right out of your hand! My kids really dug it. We did too. It was pretty cool. If you ever get out that way,DEFINITELY take your kids there,or go even if you don't have kids. Thay have baby white tigers, big ones too. Lots of cool animals.

You have pet lizards in the house or they come in from the wild? I never seen a gecko in the wild and I was in Texas a few years back and saw nothing. I like geckos, do you get some nice colored ones or they just plain tan? I'll have to read up on the lizard in the underwear story since I missed it. I'd rather have lizards in my house than nasty bugs around here since the lizards could be good use as pest control. When I first moved into my new home and it was a new area developed around fields we had these large centipedes or millapedes, real nasty! and it's a yucky feeling coming downstairs at night and stepping on one with your bare feet, horribly gross! just the thought gives me the heeby cheebies.

You can find Rattlesnake meat around Texas to eat.

At our Southlake home we've had...

Numerous snakes (Bull snakes, rat snakes, gray snakes)
Numerous lizards, geckos, and skinks
Rabbits
Squirrels
Road Runners
Skunks

Very animal friendly with 1.5 acres and about 100+ trees. The lizards are all inside the house and pretty tame to touch. Remember my lizard in the underwear story? Search in archives if not.

You might find one in your back yard! how about a lizard, I see those from time to time. I was a bad kid back then when I had snake and lizard fight each other. I do like reptiles and I wouldn't kill one for no reason either. Just wondering, has anyone tried eating any type of snake? I haven't but heard things about it. When I was out in Florida, I tried gator meat and it was not all that.

Yea, know what you're talking about. A Garter snakes musk is really bad. We had huge Red Sided Garter snakes in Kansas. About 3.5 feet long was the largest.

Many years back when I lived in South San Francisco I used to go into the fields and catch Garter snakes and they got almost as big as the one Robs holding but most of them are usually in the 1' length. Garter snakes put out a bad smell for protection and it really stinks!

Nice snake you go tthere Rob. I have a 8 foot red tail boa that is getting bigger and bigger everyday. She's never struck at me in the past 3 years I have owned her. I've thought about adding an Albino burmese to the collection but I'm not to sure were to put her. We got tons of snakes over here on the Gulf Coast.Water moccasins, rattlers you name it.

Yea, it was a Bull Snake. I just looked at the old thread again and it was 5 foot, not 4.5 feet.

I don't know what the one last night was. I should as I grew up an amateur herpetologist and wanted to be a pro. I always had 3-5 snakes around. I mainly just knew the snakes native to Kansas though.

I wish I could of got a pic on the one last night. It was only about 2.5-3 feet. It had similar markings as Bull Snake, but was too skinny, so maybe it was a rat snake. It was also very nasty and coiled up and struck at me a few times. I had a little 9 inch stick, but it's strike was more like twice that. One thing that was weird was when it got defensive it's head flattened and was triangle shaped. I would think only a poisonous snake would have that, but I know it wasn't a rattler. I would of guessed Cotton Mouth, but there's not water around. There aren't any other poisonous snakes around that would be similar, so it was just a Rat Snake or skinny Bull Snake.

My favorite pet snakes are King Snakes as they're gorgeous, constrictors - so they're easy to hold and play with, don't get too big, eat readily avail mice, and aren't mean tempered.

Rob, you shouldn't refer to your loving wife as a 'snake'. That's reserved vor Exes. What reptile are you holding in your hands there?
:-)

Robert, I always thought about doing a photo shoot like that somewhere on the city streets pretending the unthinkable just happened.

Dave, that's funny! but a Ferrari don't really need a security system, it's a car always being watched anyway. Rob, is that a tape measure she's holding to measure the snake! you ever get rattlers in your yard?

Dale, I wouldn't say she's thrilled, but she is a good ole Kansas farm girl. As a kid I said I wanted to marry a surgeon that could bait her own hook. Well, I guess I failed, she baits her own hook, but will be a PA. Good news is that as a PA I will get to see her now and then and not need a mistress. :-)

I keep the Ferrari trailer and Challenge at the back of our property. At night when I get back from my run I walk back there and check things out. To my suprise right in front of the trailer there was a snake at full guard tonight. By the time I went back to the house for the digi and came back it was gone.

Last year Jennie and I caught this 4.5 foot long Bull Snake in our shed that is right next to where the 328 is kept. Looks like our Ferraris are well guarded. :-)
