Talked to the owner - I think this car should now be directed to the "Ferrari Nightmare" thread...

Flood title. He's had the car 5 years and driven it 3000 miles (has 85,000 miles). No records/history; all that's been done is oil changes. Clutch installed by a Honda mechanic 5 years ago. Choke cable broken, car backfires, fans don't work, absolutely no rust (!!?). Want's $20K. Said he's been offered more than $15k - should have take it...

Tan will produce glare on thew windshield. I would not do it either but there have been stranger things that came from Maranello on request. Remember the lime green int of the 550 for that hockey player?

If you pay and they do not have it, they will make it for you.

Other can also mean that since the car is older than 10 years there is no true known miles.

I would have the car inspected and if you ar einterested make an offer, reasonable or not :-)

I saw this car also and, although the lighting isn't very good, I don't think that it is the same color as my car. The Vernice Azzurro Metallic on my car looks a few shades lighter. I did see a 1984 Mondial QV Cab on Ebay recently that looks to have the same color as mine though.

Mike, I asked my interior specialist just to be sure. And he assures me that it is leather.

The seller states that the title is "other", not clear. This surely implies that it was salvaged at one time.

The buyer is clearly looking for a "SUCKER"!!!!!

let me revise my statement, i have never seen a 308 with a tan dash that came from the factory. i do of several 308 qv's that had leather dashes, all in black. yet, no early 308's had leather as an option. the whole leather dash thing came into play in the mid-eighties. even the higher end cars had dark leather dashes due to the glare created. a tan leather dash in a 1979 car is more than likely a replacement dash.

my point being, this car is not original, therefore what else is not original on the car?

Branko, are you sure that's leather and not leather-grained vinyl?

William, I guess I must be one of the exceptions. I have a Euro '85' 308 with a black leather dash.

Here's that combo in a 308QV. I think it gives the car a much more modern, less dated look:

I find it Ironic how many high-end car sellers on ebay don't bother to proofread their ads for accuracy or content....as if no one would notice that their 328 doesn't really have automatic transmission, the car interior color is tan and not black, etc....like we're all idiots or something. Many of the descriptions don't even match the photos posted with the auction. It's hard to cut someone a serious check for a car when they do these things. Just my two cents...

Seller didn't need or probably want to say more...."flood title (means SALVAGE), plus high miles and little or unknown history means this thing *"should have marks all over it from the ten foot poles..." :-)

Hate to break it to you guys but the F40 was not the last!

The F40 was the last release from ferrari before Enzo passed away.
The last program was the 348 !

A much "forgotten" fact by car historians

Guess it wasnt rare enough as it ended at $19k with no bids!
the Description seemed a little agressive to me, no mention of history or in depth condition, just Rare and with a new clutch, this guy should learn how to really sell his stuff

today yes, but not back then. all the dsahes were vinyl. i wouldn't rule out that exceptions were made for special clients, but i have never seen or heard of a 308 dash being anything other than vinyl, and i have seen many special features that the factory produced for the 308 (such as the red car with all the matt black items painted glossy white- ie- the vents on the hood and rear sail panels, the targa, etc.). for a dash to have come in leather, especially tan, i think the option would have been more prevelent or at least more well noted by the people whpo pay attention to these types of things.

He died in '88. That's my point. These Ebay sellers crack me up! Fact checking is obviously not a strong point. F40 was the last vehicle program executed under his guidance.

Buyer beware! Deal with folks you can trust.

The dash could very well be original. You can order your car any which way you like. Tan dash is one of these options.
Excentric but possible.

I thought he died in 88 or 89, the F40 being his last car...

I think Azzuro CA is really rare on 308/328's - I've only ever seen Augustine's on this board in pics.

I'd guess that $19,000 would be all the money and then some...
