The bottom is going to fall out of this market very fast. To many new 150k plus cars are going to hit the market. This will cause competeion between high end makes like never before. They will become just like purchasing a Ford or what ever. Just that you are dealing with bigger numbers. In the past you had really only 2 real chocies of supercar, Ferrari and Lambo. Now look at your choices. AM, MB, Bugatti, Pagani, Mclaren, Porsche, Maserati, Ford(gt),BMW(Z8), Lotus, and maney others. Tell me that with all the other stuff hitting the market that this won't cause major problems for the manufactuer of these cars. Not all of them can survive at the same time. The more chocies people have the more the demand goes down, and the more the prices fall. owning an exotic car is not what it use to be. |

James..... That "is" interesting because I remember the stupid times in the high end market back in 89-91.....there's one born every minute I guess. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. |

Richard- I'm not sure why your specifically looking for the price of a 1973 Daytona, but I am looking at the October 1970 Road and Track test of a 365 GTB/4 coupe (just before the car was federalized for the US). They tested a car from Bill Harrah's Modern Classic Motors, and the estimated list price of the coupe was $19,500. This compares with $11,700 for a DeTomaso Mangusta, and $19,250 for the Lamborghini Miura S. By comparison, the base price of a 454 Corvette Coupe was $5,200 that year. There may have been price differences between 1970 and 1973 due to the inflation trends of those years, but there's the price of the 1970 for you anyway. By the way, here is a nice quote from the Ferrari road test "...the GTB/4 was unexpectedly stable during our top speed runs: relaxed at 120, undramatic at 140 and manageable at 173". |

I believe the coupe was $20,000 and the spider was $28,000. |

I see Audi has introduced a "concept" supercar. I thought they were going to build something based on the Gallardo? |

It's be interesting to know if "ANY" of the Enzo's purportedly for sale in the US have transacted at above MSRP as "used" cars and for what amount. Hard to find out I imagine.......

I agree with you Bart, there is not a whole lot of companies thatc an pull off a car like the Enzo and get orders in like crazy. I don't understand some of the concepts of these companies either. Why would you try to build the super car instead of getting a competitive regular exotic. Lambo is on the right track. They go after the $160K market with a known make. I personally like the Saleen but the Mustang stigma is just too much for me to shell out $300,000. Rather get a Muci and know it does not have a Ford engine! |

It will take alot of history for the 'others' to compete with Ferrari in the Super-Exotic class. I think Porsche may have a legitimate and compelling contender with the Carrera GT however. |

I like the Pagani Zonda roadster, it's price tag is 500k, a little high in my books but if I had the money to spit out I wouldn't think twice and get it, at least it should be reliable since it's powered by the Benz 12 cyl. 7.3lit. I believe motor and it's extremely fast with formula 1 handling. I didn't think I would like the car but I saw a picture of the roadster in the Dupont Registry and I loved it. If both Enzo and Pagani was put in front of me it would be a tough one. |

You half to have super exotics for the kid in us to dream about. Yet I wouldn't want to own any stock in them. Very few have made any money. |

The maybach is just a fat S class , not special enough for its price tag. The Rolls is actually cool if you live in Gotham City but at least its special. The Bentley GT looks like a Big Lexus Coupe..I miss the Continental ! The Veyron is the dream of a megalomaniac ... Voil ! |

In today's Wall Street Journal is an acticle about the super exotic cars and their sales. Basically it says the VW Bugatti Veyron at $1,000,000 sucks. THe president of VW drove it and reassign the head of the project. It was not a stable car. Maybach has sold only 48 in the US, Rolls 38, and Bentley 262. Of course my favorite sold 818 and does not want to sell any more than they are. It appears the other car makers have made a mistake going after the super-exotic cars. Any thoughts? |
