When I received my 308, it came in a transporter in which also a real Cobra was riding. Turns out my car was the least expensive in that hole truck load. Made me feel better in regards to car theft.

My cousins neighbour has a real 427 Cobra, its insane, when in his house and he starts it up in the garage the house shakes and the entire block can hear it, its insanely loud. Apparently its worth half a million bucks too!

Last summer I stopped in at a local Wed. nite cruise in. The typical fare is Muscle cars, street rods, a few British cars.
This day there was a very light aqua colored Shelby Cobra. The paint was worn, the upholstery tired.
It had 427 badges.
The hood was up and it had a genuine 427 FE engine in there.
Most of the crowd was just passing by and giving the car a glance. I stopped to look closer and noticed the hood was alloy and not glass. Yup, this was a genuine 427 Cobra. I got talking to the owner. He bought in new back in 67 and he still drove it regularly. That was original paint. The whole time we were chatting the crowd kept passing and ignoring the car. When I walked away I mentioned to a few people that it was a real one not a replica. Suddenly the car was mobbed.

Cobras are so rare and replicas so common, that a real one don't get no respect.

Very funny Chaz. I sometimes wonder what would happen if somebody with a real 250 GTO would drive up to an event like this or even a Ferrari event. I bet some wise ass would show up and say, yeah, that window line is typical for a Datsun etc. Just because nobody expects a real GTO driving around.

So your experience kinda showed me, that's exactly what would happen. There is always a wise guy around.

Personally I have to admit, I once thought a real 308 was a replica, because the cover for the muffler looks so cheesy. Until I got my own. Then I realized, the original does look so cheezy. Time for a tubi I guess.

Chaz

Just show them the tax disc, the replicas will be registered as Datsuns, Fieros, MR2's etc etc

That's quite an experience ever I've ever read, that was great!

Roll into a replica show with the real thing...spectators advising how to make it more convincing, LOL. Did you win?

Yes, the quality has improved. So much so, a replica diablo had JAY LENO fooled into thinking it was the real thing.

Been contemplating the Diablo replica, GM cost of ownership... Italian lines.

This is like when Elvis Presley entered a Elvis-imitation contest and he became second place.

I know that there was no 308/328s there but alot of 355s,testas,dino,and 250 gtos. I remember one of the group comenting on my car not having no front venting above the lights as the 308,and i also have the momo RACE wheel which they said was wrong, and i was asked if the horse badge on the rear ws the correct one. They were convinced that mine was real especialy when i started it and they heard the v8 through the S/S system, though i wonder if some thought that was reproduced as well. You know i never thought of showing the engine. But i say again the replica standards were first class.

This is too funny Chaz! I'm curious as to what the others said about how to make your car more like an F-car?

It's obvious to me they don't know what the real thing looks like. Did you open up the engine bonnet to show them and if you did how did they explain that? :-)

Went to a performance and kit car show to day. Went in my 328,when i got there i was directed towards the italian car section so there i parked with the reast if the ferraris. As i was walking around it accured to me that every one of the ferraris i was with were replicas. The standard of the cars were fantastic and had me fooled,i also now own a testarossa and there was a 512 replica there that almost convinced me if it was not for only minor detailing.Funny thing happend when i returned back to my real 328,there was a few people around it and was talking to each other about what should be done to my car to make it more convincing ( ell).I joind in the conversation and pointed out it was indeed a real ferrari,i think they were just humuring me thinking i had ideas above my station. There was all kind of cars there from TVRs,Cobras, and other performance cars and clearly the orgaizers thought my car was a replica. It was a funny feeling driveing out of the show becourse it felt like my car was being wached by people who thought i was pretending to live the Dream.
