Myself and another chatter are currently experimenting with Boring/Polishing the throttle body, initial tests show a good gain in air flow wihich should equate to a 6% hp increase, I have a K&N which maybe good for 10hp on my 328 and have removed my cat which should also add a few HP, with all these mods I am expecting 290-300hp from my stock 3.2 |

No matter the Mondial, 3.0, 3.2 or 3.4, a tubi (or whatever quality exhaust..) and a Cat bypass pipe make a very noticible difference. My experience and observations only. My professional Ferrari mech was amazed at how fast the stock 3.2 was with the tubi. Would imagine a Stebro much the same. hope this helps rt |

Hmmmm....85 4-valve motor. I'd get a Tubi exhaust and Cat Bypass Pipes. Drop the restrictive, power-robbing smog gear if you're not in Cali (and plant a few trees during Arbour Day to clear your conscience). Port and polish the heads, matching intake and exhaust flow - there's usable power to be found by doing this, I hear. If you want to get crazy but not blow up the engine, move to higher compression during a rebuild. I think the 3.0 litre engines were 8.8 to 1 compression? Some Ferrari hot-rodders safely and reliably boost compression to 10 to 1 with high-compression pistons and a hotter cam. Norwood Performance would know more than me, that's what they were doing on a 3.0 engine in Forza a few issues back. I know a fellow who has a Twin-Turbo 308. The turbo kit was made by Prancing Horse Turbos in the '80s, however the the company is no more. However, if you'd like to talk to him regarding putting a bolt-on turbo kit of your own together or having him install one for you (he's a master mechanic), Mr. Mike Scallion (Classic Auto in PA)on the FerrariList is the man to talk to. |

Turbos and blowers are wonder things. As mentioned, there was a guy with a 350 hp 3.0 liter mondial posting here. Currently, I know there is a 400 turbo 308, a 550 hp 348, and my supercharged was 360 hp, soon to be 550 hp 308 (there is a link to an mpeg of it on my profile), see http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/315437.html?1063663313 Boost is good |

Michael, there are Mondial T's that are good solid cars that can be had for little more than an '88. I've seen good T's for $39k-$45k, and they're not trashed cars or '89 cars. None were red of course, so if you're flexible on color, a T can be yours.

There used to be a Mondial cab QV twin turbo for sale at Executive Auto. Looks like its gone now. They had two Mondy cabs -- the one left is the non-turbo. 1983, 28k miles, $28k. No affiliation, BTW. |

Michael- the most cost-effective way to increase the HP on a Mondial 3.2 is to sell it and get a T. No question. Have you driven one? The 3.2 Cabriolet I drove was plenty quick enough for me, and felt... great! An F-chatter did turbo his, not sure if he's still on the forum. He had all kinds of goodies (MOTEC engine mgment alone $5-7k+) and made 350hp. Pretty sweet. Best! Ben. |

While I continue to investigate an 88 Mondial Cab, I'm keeping my options open. One fairly viable option is an 85 Mondial Cab that needs a little work but is extremely reasonable. Of course, what I really want is a T, but I believe the earlier models are better value. Which leads to my question: is there anything that can be done to boost the performance of the 3.0 or 3.2 Mondials? Performance chips? Etc.? Any estimate on cost? |
