Jon:

It has the right bumpers. But they are still too heavy.

Problem getting stuff from europe is the cost of freight for things that size. I get stuff from Italy and Germany almost weekly, but body parts are expensive to ship even in the states.

David,

Make sure you Challenge car has the Challenge carbon fiber front and rear bumpers. They weigh much less than the stock bumpers on a street 355.

Many Challenge cars (don't know if yours is one of them) were bought up for track days and many people who damaged the front bumpers or rear ones had them replaced with the cheaper street bumpers. They not only weigh more but are not set up properly for the additonal brake ducting on the 355 Challenge cars.

My only thought is that you might be able to find someone in Europe that already has them made but I don't know who.

The 355 was raced in various forms in Europe in GT form in the FIA Championships. I think at least 5 or 6 cars ran in different championships over there and some weighed as little as 2400 pounds. Someone might still ahve some molds or parts.

Looks like your race weekend went well. Congrats!

Regards,

Jon

I'm striking out on Carbon or any composite lightweight parts available now. Fiberglass as S-glass is just fine too. I know we can get about 200 lbs out of car by installing composite doors and aluminum hinges. We could get about 80 lbs total from front and rear bumpers combined. 20 lbs on the hood and 15 on the decklid.

I called Ippoliti and he gave me Rosa Corsa's no. I know Kurt and those guys, small world. They gave me the no. of the carbon guy and I have not been able to reach him.

Unfortunately, Chris has nothing made up right now. But that may change in the offseason with us supplying parts to make molds.

Any more help out there? I was looking for something we could buy today and have shipped for next week delivery for paintwork and be able to have setup for Daytona Grand Am weekend.

Parts desired out of lightweight composite: Front Bumper, Rear Bumper, Doors, Hood, Decklid, Dash

No, they do lots of stuff; it just isn't posted on their website yet. They also do custom stuff. PM me as I may be able to help you.

Thanks Ira, got your PM.

Brent, I looked at their site and figured they just did interior 348 parts.

I'll check.

David,

Have you tried Ferrarichat sponsor Valence USA? Give Chris Coffing a call there. The banner ad at the top of the page has a link. Good luck.

David: I just privately e-mailed you Jeff's new (FL) phone number- good luck.
Jon: Funny you should ask about the 348CH PPI- per Tim Stanford, the car looked as nice as I'd said inside/outside and top/bottom, and also ran fine, BUT the compression test was a disaster- either it's got a couple of sticking rings (or some other such malady) from sitting around for a year or two, or it's due for a top-end rebuild. The selling dealer is supposed to send their Ferrari mechanic out in it for a 2-300 mile "Italian tune-up" & we'll see, but I'm not about to pay top dollar for the car unless/until this is satisfactorily addressed, so I'm not optimistic.

Thanks Jon:

The weekend went really well. It was Dana's first ever race. We started off really slow, and I thought "Oh God, what have we done?". But by the end of the day, she dropped 18 seconds off her time.

Next morning, I took the car out for 6 laps and my 6th and fastest lap was a 1:41.9. Not bad considering I have not been behind the wheel since April and that was at Road Atlanta. I think if I was on the ragged edge, I may have been able to turn a 37. But to go any faster, we needed more mechanical grip via camber and stiffer springs as we had it set up for a beginner which worked out well in retrospect.

On Sat, Dana knocked another 7 seconds off and was down to a 1:45!!!! But she spun in 3 pretty badly the next lap and never really got the faith back to be as fast as a 48/49.

The 355 was a huge hit with the fans as was Miss Dana. By the end of Saturday qualifying, she was an old pro and already doing typical "driver" stuff. That night at the HSR party, she received the coveted "Workers choice Award"! It was a checkered flag autographed by all the corner workers and HSR Staff.

David,

How did your race weekend go?

Former Empire State Region FCA member Jeff Ippoliti has built a F355 GT mostly with carbon fiber doors and hoods. I think his car weighs about 2500 pounds. Nearly everything on the car is carbon fiber (see picture below):

He recently relinquished his post as head of FCA in the NY area and is moving to Florida.

You can try to reach him at: [email protected], if tht fails go to the FCA Empire Region website and send them a general email and someone will get you his contact number or an email address.

I think his car was custom built but he can point you in the right direction for getting the doors made.

Anyone know where there is a quality carbon fiber racing weight door set for the 355?

If so, please let me know.

David
