John, The stock muffler is removed and a twin cat system installed (no muffler, just cats). The cats need the one way valves installed. Paul's numbers add up with mine. It's under $1000 and it will pass if your engine is in ok condition. My carbs weren't sync'd and I adjusted the carbs by feel and it was way low on all counts. Mine in a Euro with a an ok motor. I happened to be at a Ferrari service place for something unreleated and a Quattrovalve showed up with the same setup (custom cat exhaust, air pump, evap setup). Only it was alot easier to adjust the mixture on the fuel injection than swapping jets and adjusting the mixture. |

Paul, providing part numbers and source (where you can buy them) would help. Of course, there's still no guarantee of passing even with the hardware. Plus, my mechanic said there wasn't adequate room with the current muffler. Thanks. |

Hello, I thought I would pass along my experience trying to get a 3.2 Mondial, Euro-spec, smogged in CA. In summary, it couldn't be done without spending lots of money. IT CAN BE DONE FOR LESS THAN $1000 1. after market cat 2. GM electric Airpump mounted in the trunk

FL required no proof of residency (like cable or utility bills). When I lived in MI and UT, I had to show these, but not in FL. Probably related to their population requirements. I just showed up with my passport and CA driver's license. You can choose to become a full-time resident and get a FL driver's license. Alternatively, you can be a part-timer (like a lot of the retired folk there) and get what is basically a FL identification card. With the police being the way they are in CA, I went with the former. License, plates, registration, insurance--they all match to help me avoid any hassles. Taxes were a couple percentage points less there, too. As a side note, I understand that most areas in ID outside of Boise have no smog requirements (I'm not sure of proof of residency). |

John- I'm considering doing that for my CA legal cars! It's insane what you have to do in CA now, just insane. Best! Ben. |

John, You need the cats and an air pump. I just passed my Euro 308 carb on Saturday. It was really low on all parts. The cat exhaust will cost $400-$500, air pump $200-$300, charcoal canister with hoses $30. It wasn't too bad to hook up and it sounded serious with just the cats on. |

Hello, I thought I would pass along my experience trying to get a 3.2 Mondial, Euro-spec, smogged in CA. In summary, it couldn't be done without spending lots of money. * Got it running well first, Patrick Ottis in Berkeley did a great job * Car has no cats; tried the "alcohol" trick which helped on everything but NO (nitrous oxide); final NO reading was about 1100, CA max was 165 I think * Testing was "interrupted" so that the failed test was not on the record Problem is that there isn't lots of room to install cats on these Euro models. Decided it was cheaper to register and insure it in another state where they have no smog requirements. Had no problem doing this. In the end, I probably wouldn't buy another Euro, but now it's all legal and I plan to buy the Capristo for a nice breathing and sounding car. Wanted to pass on my experience. |
