You use AAA to tow your Fcars? You have guts, that's for sure. No worries. Nothing that money can't cure. Its the cosmetic woes that kill you.

Sometimes we assume the worst and it ends up being something little.

I remember in April I was stearing down a $ 8000 repair and it ended up being a $0.20 washer that it needed. Go figure.

the signs are there
telling you to stop playing with
6 and 8 cylinder F's.

you need a 12.

575/550 or any of the classics?

hmmmm... choices, choices.

Doesn't the F40 owners manual state that you must keep the revs. above 1500rpm to keep the valve guides in good working order? ;)

Well, of my four racing Karts, all four are broken!

The one we ran in Lafayette, La. swallowed a bolt down the carb. At least I can turn the whole car over and shake it!!!!!

OK, my turn...

1) 328 GTS - Running great! Just replaced throttle cable last week as preventative because it started to fray and was notchy.

2) 355 C - Running awesome! Running the hell out of it several track days and presented at a couple shows. Rotors still great, pads still with 50% life, and everything running perfect.

3) Toyota Tundra - Running great. Beat the hell out of it hauling the race cars around.

Here's where it goes bad...

4) BMW 325is - Already has cost me $3,000 this year with complete new A/C and fans, water pump, heater core. Jennie just got stranded on 35 yesterday with a belt letting loose. Just got a call that new belts, tensioners, pullies, and thermostat will run $800. I love this car, but it's the most expensive one I own.

5) SRX7 #6 - Loaned to my friend for a race in August. Made hard contact with a Spec Miata taking out right quarter, right door, right front wheel, and front suspension. Had spare parts for everything. FC user Jano painted the new panels and put them on and we replaced the complete front suspension and rebuilt the steering box.

6) SRX7 #12 - This is my primary racer going forward. Through month of July took a very nice street car, put new crate motor in it, new racing clutch/pressure plate, carb, new rotors, new calipers, master brake cylinder, master/slave clutch, stripped it, installed all safety stuff (roll cage), and got it ready to race first time at 2am of race day.

The engine was locked! Several good wrenches spent hours trying to find what was wrong. I ended up racing the Challenge that weekend instead. Weeks later after removing engine and finding it would turnover, it was found it wouldn't turn over because the bolt for the new slave clutch cylinder was too long and locked up the flywheel. A 10 cent bolt cost me $900 for the R&R! Other problems found with it over the past few weeks were the new brake master was faulty, alignment way off, and rear end was shot and required rebuild. I've put $7-8k in this new race car the past 3 months and I haven't even raced it yet. This weekend at Hallett is my first race with the car! It should be perfect (has new or rebuilt everything), although I need to track down air getting in the braking system somewhere.

Chris:

Yikes! Get to work my boy!!! The New Orleans event is going to be absolutely insane.

Just a few developments:

The Louisiana State Police custom made Gumball Lights and sirens for Franco's 360 and my 355 for use in the escorts. They are also bringing thier supercharged camaro.

We have several celebrity drivers coming for the track event, and a few hollywood stars (whom I'm not allowed to mention, but I can tell you one is a spectacular looking A list actress.) You should not miss this.

Horse drawn carriages will bring us Sat. night to the Black Tie Mardi Gras Balcony Gala, which will take place in a room which has the largest balcony on Bourbon street. Over the Balcony below will be like Mardi Gras (there is a festival that night in the French Quarter). So we created custom made "ferrari" mardi gras beads that lite-up and blink, for our "throws," to the crowds below, and the bartender will be Mardi Gras drinks with ice cubes with Ferrari emblems that "lite-up" the glasses!! (Yes the Tuxedos are just costumes)

We've scored one of the most spectacular sites for the concorso, it will knock your eyeballs out.
And for the parade through the French Quarter? We have 30 police motorcycle officers escorting us!!

Chris, we have several models of each Ferrari Supercar, 288, F40, F40LM, F50, Enzo, Y0u dont want to miss the company!

Work, Chris, work!!

If you sign up now for a 360 spyder, you'll get an 05, or 06. It will be the big engined model. And you'll get it for sticker.

Thank you!

I always try to be pretty positive, but the water pump was the last straw!

I have more fun on here, I have learned to like and respect so many people on here, I just needed a little support from friends!

They started working on the F355 this morning, F40 should be done in a month...

The 246 will be our winter project....

Thanks guys!

JRV can do the Dino too. He's finishing an engine on a 246 this week.

He also does regular work on a local F40 here in Houston. What a car! Still one of my favorites, as time goes by (cue music here).

Any one else working towards the New Orleans date?

As long as the lamp on the desk shines.....:-)

Chris,
not to worry. I think you are best of to ship the 355 to a mechanic and have him do the pump and respective 30K service at the same time. Shoudl be done in a week.
The F40 you need someone that knows what he is doing. I would consider JRV. Send it to Dallas and then pick up the car there and drive it over to New Orleans in October.
The Dino, have someone take the engine out and send the engine for repair/rebuild.

I feel the pain but it really is not such big of a deal if you think about it. You can have all of them done in a matter of a week to a month.

Hey things happen. Your okay, you are healthy and so is the family. The kids are sick but not terminally ill. Smile and make arrangements for the truck.

I have to bring my CHallenge to service on Friday to be ready for Sebring in October. engine out, timing belt and pump and all the good stuff.

Head gaskets just don't blow, especially on a car like a 246. Either it was badly done last time, or it was badly overheating, or something else is amiss. I'd take no chances and sell the car as is to me for $2500.

The F 40...well "just" a valve guide isn't bad for an oil starvation problem on such an engine; count yourself lucky there! I imagine the whole thing could have let go.

Being a Lotus TC waterpump verteren, I feel your pain on the 355. Mine was an engine out deal but I got an aftermarket front cover and cassette pump to avoid a recurrence permenently. I bet a new pump plus labor will be a lot cheaper on the Ferrari, which is something you don't hear very often!

Good luck and I hope you get them back on the road soon; I love all 3 cars! Maybe a 360 or 550 wouldn't be such a bad idea; you know, as a spare?

This thread reminds me of the movie "Notting Hill" with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. They had a pitty party and whoever had the worse bad luck story got the last dessert. Very funny part of the movie. I think I win so far with 6 cars down at one time of course one F40 with problems might trump me:-)

Chris,
I feel your pain... my 348 Challenge has given me a few woes this year as well...

Flywheel repacking in April
Gearbox rebuild in July

And now the engine is out for a lower cam bearing failure...

Not that good of year for me either.

yeah, since I acquired by dino 246gt in July, I had the water pump grind to a noisy halt, then the throttle cable snapped off at the pedal, then fuel lines needed replacing... good thing I have a great mechanic who takes care of the car like it's a human.

but when it's running well and back in her berth in the garage, and it is now (sound effect of knocking on wood) all is well in the world.

If misery loves company here is my current car situation: 1.) 512TR-seat belt recall needed as harness belt malfunctioned, have lap belt only now. 2.) 911 Turbo-has died unexpectedly twice while driving, might be Permatune going bad. 3.) Jaguar XJR-Transmission crapped out and just got it rebuilt. 4.) BMW 635-I let it sit for 6 months and now it wont start. Siphoned out old gas but no luck. 5.) Landcruiser-Carb getting rebuilt, still in shop after one month. 6.)Suburban-Motor threw a rod going up Vail Pass, rebuilt motor and is back in the shop for warranty work on motor as it is missing. 7.) 250 PF coupe-No mechanical issues, but can't find tires and am a bit worried driving around on the 20 year old ones. In general I find the Ferrari's as reliable as anything else I have owned (except the Landcruiser) and better than the Porsche and Jaguar.

Jim, i love cars, but I have just about had all of the fun I can stand this year!

Very frustrating...........

but i can not think of what I could replace them with.

I love a 360 spyder, but I know I will take a bath on it in a few years unless I could get one for sticker...

I don't know, not the worlds biggest Ferrari fan right now... but thanks for the offer!

This has been a bad year for Ferrari's at my house..

Dana's Dino blew a head gasket on the Vermont Rally in June, I am waiting for my mechanic to start on that project.

The F40 decided last week that number 3 cylinder needed alot more oil, so now I need to replace a valve guide on #3 cylinder...

Tonight my super reliable F355, in front of 11 other Kansas City Ferrari's, lost a water pump and I had to call AAA....

Bad year for Ferrari's.....

The F40 should be done by the end of October so we can be in New Orleans....

Martin, I need a NEW Ferrari!
