DC, if you're talking about the old Porsche 550, many of those are kit cars. You can get new ones built today. I've seen them for $20K on up. The real deals are 6 figure cars.

Hey Doody- feel free to use the expression - I won't even charge a royalty.

I was actually at F1 Boston this weekend to watch the celtics game- someone had an old posrche speedster with decals on the side parked out front- how much is one of those things worth?

They were having a jr karting final or something when i was there- some of those youngins are pretty damn fast- .
All the parents were lined up on the balcony - a few even had video cameras. The elders all seemed pretty jovial and supportive. To be candid I was a bit dissapointed..... the lack of taunting, yelling, screaming and the overall lack of anger coming is not helping these budding racers in any way shape or form.

No tears from the kids - just smiling faces. and they all got trophies, even those that finished last- who sponsored this event? Sesame Street.
And we wonder why there are no Americans in Formula 1. We need overzealous Karting dads- like they have over in Germany and England

what are you gonna do?

- hope to see you guys there

I'll definitely be up for a trip once it's all back together.
I've pretty much bogged down here with the Fcar project. The jeep started giving me sh_t a couple weeks ago so I did a tuneup, swapped the mechanical fuel pump for an electrical one then brought it back to school, got it running good enough but needed other parts. So, this weekend I replaced the distributor with a high perf. one and assorted other stuff. Upon installation I found out from the factory it was drastically retarded (read muffler explodes like soda can in backfire of the earth, luckily no cat in it to blow). So, now the jeep is running alright, needs a little tuning though and I need to rewire it because somehow the ignition module is still in play in the system, somewhere behind the dash, causing the fuel pump and the distributor to not get power under the start position, but only the on position. It's a bit of a pain to start because of this. Alright, enough rambling out of me.

When I'm done with school in like two weeks I'm going to pull of the cam cover, pull out the crankshaft, pistons, etc. Hopefully have the heads back somewhere near here and order new pistons and send the cams to get redone. Then I have a couple weeks to finish the rest of the car (some interior work, some wiring, etc) and hopefully get it set up so when I get the stuff back I can put the engine all together and throw it in. I'm aiming for late June.

Bret,

If you long for a ride in a red 308QV with the engine in the car, I'm about 20 mins east of you in Pomfret Center, CT. How is the rebuild coming, I haven't noticed an update lately?

There is a kart track in the Hartford area as well. I haven't been there, but it sounds good.
The web site is www.karttrak.com.

I live out in the western burbs, near Framingham.

Doody where do you live in MA?
Tigermilk- unfortunatrly no T Braintree- actually there is a Braintree T- its the red line -which you could pick up from Park St which is near Beacon Hill
- you would need a cab from the T but its probably onle a couple miles to F1.- If your in the neighborhood- I live in Southie and would be more than happy to go down to F1 with ya.

Regarding Ferrari sightings- I have seen quite a few in the city- but they are always parked-
Louis Boston on Newburry always has some treats- Kelsey Grammer had his 550 there once when he was doing Hamlet in MA

- one night on Newburry outside of Zegna there was a yellow 360 challenge with full sticker kit and all-not sure legally how someone got it there-i think it might have been trucked in- and right behind the challenge car was red 360 spider- which i feel is the best looking car I have ever seen in person- the glass right over tyh3e engine- was unbelievable to see up close.

So- I'm not saying that they don't exist in MA- just hard to come by- and I have never had the good fortune of seeing one at full throttle or ever seeing an exotic do anything more than a Euro pimp crawl down a packed city street.
I guess I'll have to buy one to experience it- better start saving

My wife is currently working in Boston, so I usually make it up there every 2 weeks (except she's been doing all the traveling this year so far with my busted hip still recovering).

Anyway, regarding Ferraris in Boston, we have an apartment at Beacon and Tappan. One day we were walking back from Star Market there through the alley and there was a brand spanking new 550 Barchetta. Nice spotting. A month or so earlier there was a TR parked out front the B&D Deli in Brookline.

I've always wanted to hit F1 Boston, but we don't have a car up there. Any Beantown regulars know if it's possible to take the T down there?

Supraboytt:

[[[[With the exception of Newbury St - I've seen maybe 6 Ferrari's total in MA- and I've lived here 20 years. And to this day I've never seen a Lambo, Lotus, Aston, or Ferrari on the highway]]]]

They're here, they're just not out all that frequently due to the weather. I don't think I've ever seen an Aston on the road, but other than that I've seen 'em all.

Especially the first few really sweet days of spring everybody cracks open their garages and zoom zoom zoom. A few weeks back we had our first PERFECT Saturday. I was driving around in my 355 and saw a 360, a Z8 - the Z8 multiple times - we were both out joyriding and were apparently taking similar routes - very amusing.

I think most folks don't take their highline cars into the city (except the over-funded euro BU students, who must be paying five figures per year in insurance!). I know I don't - it's just not worth the risk with all the construction and other factors. So I think you tend to see the exotics on the back roads and side roads and secondary highways more so than the Pike and 95. My two pennies.

Doody!

Cool. Rob, you do understand that someday you are going to have to come out to the tri-state area again and deal with all your east coast disciples.

If any New England guys are ever getting together I would be game, especially if I'm up at school. If I'm home I would still make the trip as my summer, in its entirety, so far consists of putting back together the red car, trying to get with my younger sister's friends, and hanging out with my friends. I think I'll have just a minute or two to take a long trip...

I graduated from Babson College in Wellesley back in 1996. We went to a few places in town, but most of our partying was centered around a keg in the dorm with our limited budgets. Saw quite a few Ferraris around Boston when I was there. Boston is a great town, I just don't care for the weather.

The only time I really went to Boston was a couple weeks ago (used to go right near there for hockey camp every year) and on the way I stopped at FNE which was cool. Just walking around the city later on I saw a navy blue 550 with barchetta style rims. I guess it was the exception, I was like wow, only been here a couple hours and a Ferrari already.

wow- who would have known so many tifosi resided in Boston- I'm impressed-

I remember seeing tons of exotics when I was at the U of AZ in Tucson- but not too many in Beantown.

With the exception of Newbury St - I've seen maybe 6 Ferrari's total in MA- and I've lived here 20 years.

And to this day I've never seen a Lambo, Lotus, Aston, or Ferrari on the highway-
makes me sad to see such beautiful cars occasionally in the city not being utilized.
Such is life.

Anyways F1 Boston is gods way of making up for the Red Sox here in New England. They've had a Mclaren F1 there once.

Do you guys ever watch the F1 races there?

I think I might make a trip down for the next one considering my cable company doesn't carry speedchannel - yet we have like 4 bible channels-and 26 spanish language channels

I heard they closed the Ascari portion of F1 - the chef quit or something- which is a shame- but legistcally a 4 star resurant and karting simply don't mix.

well guys - i've got a supra tt 6 speed and 98 Audi A8 - if you ever feel inclined to trade- I'd be down-

the Audi's great in the rain and quite roomy if you've got kids

well- I'm overtired and rambling- if anyone ever wants to meet up for a drink and a race at F1- shoot me an email

If anyone has a chance to go to this track I highly recommend it. The track is only about 15 min from my house. I've been a few times. The carts handle unbelievable. I'll bet you pull about 2 g's in some of the corners!!

So yesterday after class, well after class had I actually gone, my friend and I decided to go to this place F1 Boston that he saw on the internet. It's an indoor go kart track with a big time Formula One theme going on ("Ascari" restaurant inside, Ferrari posters all over the place, some Ducati stuff too actually). It's basically a sports bar that overlooks the track which is separated by a glass wall.

There are two tracks, I only got to do one though. The karts are cool as hell as far as the arrive and drive type karts are. A real racing go kart chassis, steering, etc coupled to a 200cc engine with a singlespeed trans. They average like 30mph around the tight course.

The point of my rambling is you Northeastern boys should check it out sometime. It would be a great get together.
