DES, Japanese has basic letters (hi-ra-ka-na) of 48 including 6 vowels. Haiku uses these letters, 5 letter, 7 letters, and 5 letters, to make a poem. 5, 7, 5 combo will make sense as a whole. BTW, Japanese haiku must have a seasonal word (Ki-go) to indicate spring, summer, fall, or winter. Does this make sense? Here's my try for English Haiku: Racing with the wind Listening the engine sound roars Ferrari world My heart is Rosso Ferrari opens heavens gate As red as sun set mmm, I don't even know these are right, but best I can do for now!

Want a 308 Apartment has no garage Winter will kill it. Went to see Aston Martin Small dealer in neighborhood Would not let me in. Always talking cars Still many years of law school Wife wants attention. It's not practical! Cars are just transportation! They don't own f-car. Smoke billows from grille I thought this had a tune up Money goes bye-bye. Save for retirement Delayed gratification Not said by car nuts. New biz needs counsel Bankruptcies call for defense Constant lawyer prey.

Yoshi, is there any way to explain the rules of a Japanese Haiku in English or does it get lost in the translation...? It seems interesting... |

DES, how do you know all these? You seems to have broad interest on many things, which is very good. Thanks for your concern. I couldn't smoke for 3 days at all...... Like Ken pointed out, I didn't think Haiku in this post & Japanese Haiku are same originally. Hey, we use different letters! Yoshi consists of 2 letters in Japanese & 2 syllables in English.

Yoshi, sorry to hear about your bronchitis... Is 'Tanka' a more familiar word for you, with regards to poetry...? It's prtty much the same thing as a Haiku... It's 5 lines long, the first line having 5 syllables, the second line having 7, the third having 5 and the fourth and fifth both having 7 syllables... |

Thanks DES! So syllables is what we are counting. In Japanese, it is a letter we count. We just moved within the same area. Took 3 days for movers to move everything (not counting cars) I got bronchitis from all those dusts, yak. KEN, you are right. How could I not know this. I am just too naive, innocent, & ignorant!!!!! (smiley face here) I will try to come up something decent for this post! |

Yoshi, a haiku is a type of poem whose entirety is three lines; on the first line, there must be 5 syllables, on the second line, 7 syllables and on the third, 5 syllables... Where did you move to...? Welcome back... |

Finally getting back on F-chat after moving & sorting. Still about 50 more boxes to un-pack, but I am in okay space now. What is Haiku? I mean what is the rule for Haiku in English? I cannot find common rules in these posted!
