I love seeing that you all think it is sad that a car invisioned, constructed and intended to be driven and enjoyed sits like some statue. I end up in some strange places and I stumbled on a collector in Texas who has (among MANY MANY MANY Things) a '57 Vette Stingray RED with 800 orig Miles AND the factory redline Bias Belted Tires still on it. As impressive as it is I think it is still sad that no one will get to drive that car. |

some day, in about 50 years, somebody is going to stumble on to this car and be over the moon. by that time there will be about 50 456's left standing and this one will roll onto the dais at pebble beach all spiffed up and take a prize. in the meantime, no sane person will pay more than $75k. sorry. and that is from somebody who loves these cars and desperately wants to buy one.... |

Yep, because it's Italian! And why do Rolls Royces leak oil? My dealer tells me the British call it controlled seepage! The beauty of the Veglia speedo is, that while I'm standing still, I feel like I'm still moving! |

> whny don't they [ferrari speedometers] rest at zero? because it's italian. why does a veglia oil gauge require an additional tap on the face to work occasionally? because it's italian. Why does a 328 with two gas tanks have a veglia fuel guage that is worthless unless you're on perfectly flat ground without moving? (i.e. go through left turn and rads full and right turn and reads empty - ferrari fault, not veglia in the design of the float system, but you get the point) Because it is italian. Gotta love it. |

Funny - for a car that sits all the time, why did you take the the picture of the speedo while the car was going 13 mph?

Chris - no offence to anyone that owns one - i'm sure it's wonderful for high traffic/commuting stiuation... but I'd have to kick my own ass before I buy an automatic transmission Ferrari. -dq |

Ralph, The Diablo is ready to be driven, in fact I was just in it 2 days ago running around, it's fluids are changed yearly like clockwork, just like all of his other cars, and it is driven... though minimally he has about 50 other cars he can drive at his choosing. DES, that's what I was asking myself when I 1st saw these cars just sitting. I asked him if he needed someone to run these cars, unfortunately he said he'll get around to driving them. It's a crying shame to let these cars sit. Dr. Shelbee, LOL, that's exactly what I told him. Troy, e-mail me @ [email protected] we'll go over the Pantera. Dave, I'll keep an eye out for a car which will fit you, I had a 97 GTA available about a month ago, I probably could've picked it up for around $70-75k lower miles than you would prefer and a GT'A', hmmmm, not sure if that would work for you either. Thanks for the responses everone, I'll let him know that 99.9% of the Ferrari community opposes, the low mileage on his vehicles as well as his asking prices and he is in need of drug counseling and several sessions with a good head doctor... Regards all, Chris

Chris, I think for $125k people would rather get 1997 or 1998 550 or 15000 mile 2000 456M. Your car might not worth more than 70k, sorry I have a deal coming up for 1999 456M GT much lower than your asking. Good luck for selling, perhaps you can sell it to Sultan of Brunei?? |

people who would pay $125k for a 456 can and would pay the same for a 456M and get the updates. If they REALLY didn't like the styling changes on the M they would buy one of the later (read 1998) non-M cars to have as many updates as possible. I wish your friend luck but I think he's smoking crack if he thinks he's going to see >$80k for thie 1995 456 regardless of it being in a hermetically sealed jar. Personally, I will be looking for a 456 in the coming year and my criteria is: x rougly $60k up to $70k for the right car (your friend could maybe get $70k from me if the rext of this list is met... but the low miles actually makes me want to run away) x at least 8/19 exterior - stone chips are fine because I'll just end up adding to them as I'll drivei it close to daily x 7/10 or better interior - my son will likely spill/throw drink/food in the back seat strapped into a child seat... and i'll drive it most every day. x the windows service must be done - i don't want the car to leak like a sieve since i'll drive it and i live in seattle x the car should have @least 2k miles a year, no less... i want all the issues that need to be found to be found before i get it - and i want the body to have been torqued to ensure that the rear window is still in solid x major service already recently completed x full documentation from at least the 5 past years under a single owner that has consistently put > 2k miles/year on car x full set of luggage included (not a sticking point, but seems common enough I should ask for further discount if it isn't there) x full PPI done with no outstanding issue - if issues found, seller reduces to cover @ least half of the cost of the issues found Granted I'm not looking for a 10/10 car but your friend (and from the sounds of it, an impressive collector) is way off base in price and expectations. Most 4 seaters from ferrari has ever held it's value - even from the 330 GT2+2 on through the 400/412 and right into the 456 you see a history of not having high selling prices regardless of how perfect the car is kept. Hope he sells it for his sake - I would love to knkow the final sale price if it does sell, but alas we so rarely here that type of thing... -dq

Erik, He bought the car in 95, when this was the 1st front engine F-car built since the daytona, I guess he didn't think they would be bringing the 550 out, or saw something of a collectible nature in the car, wish I had gone with him. |

Martin, That is close to what I offered him. He flatly rejected the offer then came back and told me he would sit on the car rather than sell it wholesale. Told him there is no market for a 95 456 GT over $90k. Told me to see what I can do for him. I am offering a $5k finders fee to whomever brings me a buyer. And that is all I can do for this fellow collector. Major was done this past year @ ALGAR, waiting on fax documentation. As far as other cars around him. He has a 91 TR w/ 1200 miles, Red/Tan, an Allard J2X, Blk/Blk, a 73 Jaguar XKE w/ 30k miles, Concours winner @ Amelia, a 63 MB 300SL which has been invited to sponsor Mercedes Benz @ this coming years Pebble Beach, a Jaguar XJ 220, a 72 Pantera "custom" w/38 orig. miles. a 91 Diablo w/680 mi. Many Corvette Fuelies, Vipers, #7 RT/10, and one of the 1st SRT's to roll off the line. He's got about 50-60 museum quality autos in his possession. Regards, Chris

I have that car with the same color combo on my desk at home. Too bad I am in college and won't be able to afford that car for quite a while. On a side note that is a dream car for me. Absolutely beautiful. Best of luck with selling the car..... or you could just donate it to me.... then I can sell my current car to pay for the major service required or just sit in it and make vroom vroom noises!!!! best of luck! Gorgeous car, but I have to agree with everyone else that this car is maybe worth $70 in the current market (456s just are not moving). The low miles are more of a hinderance than a value adder for this car. You can now buy a good 550 for $125k (or less). This car has basically been sitting for 8 years. The seals are likely shot and the belts are due for replacement based on time. Your friend maybe could sell it for $70 IF he threw in a major service. |

It is most unfortunate, but the damage has already been done....too low miles......too high of a price......too low wholesale. ANY 'driver' will LOOSE his shirt driving this car, and most everyone knows it. "...truly a rare example..."......to WHOM? How, on earth, can this be priced "fairly" when one can buy "TWO" of these (with under 5K miles each), and use one as a parts car, for LESS than what you are asking for just ONE car? Makes NO sense whatsoever!!!!! Maybe another "museum" would buy it!!!!!!!! |

that's like 85 miles per year. too bad your bud didn't drive it. if it's anything like the 550, it's a shame to let it sit like that. he's likely to end up with a depreciation cost of ownership of over $200 per mile (adjusting the $207K purchase price in late 1995 to today's dollars). eek - when you look up "haircut" in the dictionary they're going to have a picture of this car! doody. |

Wow, beautiful ride. But unfortunately, the 456 does not get any respect. Just look at the resale values. I love the color combination, and personally I like the lines. I even prefer the front end style more so than the 360, with porsche looking nose. Unfortunately, I am probably in the minority. What appears to be simply a gorgous car, i doubt will sell for even close to his asking price. |

Chris great color combo. But, does anyone ever buy a garage queen and then rack up miles? I am curious because what will happen with this car. This is not the market where it should be sold in and the year isn't a plus. Also the fact that it is a 2+2 hurts it even more. If this were a maranello or 512 I think it would be better IMHO. Chris what are the cars under the covers around it? Also do you mind me asking why he bought the 456 in the first place. Erik |

The problem is that 95's had a lot of major isuues that the next owner will need to take care of (like the windows). Also, no wholesaler will touch a 456, they are extremely difficult to resell. Only Ferrari dealers will consider them as a trade or outright purchase. I have seen several 95's in the $60K to $75K range with under 5K miles. |

I agree James and JD, but for a brand new Ferrari, this isn't a bad car. The services were performed by ALGAR, I'll check the records in the meantime. I know I can get a 95 456 GT w/20k mi for around $60-70k, but this is truly a rare example. Possibly the lowest mileage 456 in the country. None finer. That's got to be worth something to somebody.

Collecting this car is a steep negative investment. Wonder what the guy was thinking? What did it sell for new? What is it worth now? 456 design has grown on me over the years. But if I wanted one, it would not be the early years.

Looks like a really nice car. However, in todays market, I believe he is about $40K overmarket. True the miles are low but the next buyer is going to need to do quite a lot of catch up maintenance unless the services that are predicated on time have already been done. This is an example of a car that is too nice for the market it is in pricewise. It is a real shame as the 456GT is a great car. |
