Although I know the story of the "Prancing Horse" I think Mr. Ferrari looked upon this cars as thoroughbreds and thus picked the "Prancing Horse" as his trade mark. Since thoroughbreds are bred to race not stay in the barn, I drive mine as much as possible. 4000 since February and I was unable to drive for 2 months.

Kevin,
Predicting 50,000 miles / year ? That has to be the record. I'm impressed !

JUst bought my 355 3 weeks ago. I've put close to 4000 miles in that time (it had 14.5k on it when I bought it) I plan on putting close to 50k miles on it per year. I'll let every one know when it hits the 100, 150, and 200k mark. either it will turnout to be super reliable (like my last 911) or super expensive? maybe I should keep a log?

It's nice to see that many of us on this board are putting some serious miles on our F-cars.

But will there ever come a time when someone can buy a brand new Ferrari, enjoy driving it let's say 5K miles per year, and not be penalized for "excess mileage" when he/she sells it 3-4 years later?

I doubt it.

On pace to average about 2k this year.

Bought in 1997 with 51k.
Had around 57k in 2000.
Hit 62k on the way home from work Friday.

And I still enjoy every mile behind the wheel.

About 3,000 miles a year is realistic for me. I have now 3 more cars to drive including daily driving, and annually I only drive a total of about 8,000 to 12,000 miles. I take out F-car if a trip/drive is over 50 miles.
No one taught me how to manage or drive F-car yet, so I really don't know this is decent or not. One thing I was told by FOD was to try to drive at more than 3,000RPM all the time to burn off carbon. (meaning never shift below 3,000 RPM)

hi marcus,

i drove 360s with both the manual gearbox and the F1 gearbox at mugello and fiorano. they both are fun to drive, BUT for me (my opinion) the F1 is not only the latest technology but it is also the most fun to drive. that's why i have F1 gearboxes in both of my cars. i've put about 20,000 miles on three 360 F1s that i've owned, and i have not had any problems at all :-) my crystal ball tells me that eventually the manual gearbox will be phased out in favor of new developments in gearbox technology.

Rick, could you make up your mind on the transmission? F1 and a stick? Actually that would probably result in one of them being neglected after you sorted out your tastes...sell the unused one?

Rick that is awesome. You are the man " I couldn't make my mind up so I bought one of each" that is the coolest thing ever. Can't wait to see pics of the stradale. Congrats.

i normally only put 500-1,000 miles on during the summer. I can count the number of times it has seen rain in (8)years. i am very particular as to where it gets driven and parked. I probably could drive more miles, if I made more of an effort.

Rick,
I hope you and Val have a great time in Maranello!

Now back to your question... well, if I can keep the car on the road and not in the shop, I'm on track for doing about 8-9k this year. :-) I've put on about 7500mi in 10 months of ownership... and lovin' every minute of it!!!

hi eric,

i couldn't make up my wind which color 360 to buy. i really like red, but i also really like yellow. my wife doesn't like convertibles so i decided to buy a red and a yellow coupe :-) i'm in the process of replacing the yellow modena with a yellow stradale :-) i'm going to the ferrari factory next week to get a closeup look at the stradale. i am hoping i'll also get to hear how they sound while i'm there. all the reviews on the stradale say it's the loudest street car ever built!

Rick that garage is sick with the s55 as well great job. Can I ask why you got two 360 coupes though? It isn't every day you see someone with two of the same cars. Awesome I would have trouble picking which one to drive. Am I feeling yellow or red today :-)

6000-8000 mi/yr on both cars combined. Not enough, but already have a hard time dealing with the $5-7K/yr in maintenance per car.

Also on pace for about 4000 in my first year of ownership. Would be more if my '78 308 GTS was a Mondial (4 seats), or if my wife and I had ANY babysitters available to us.

I have got to get out more! At this clip I will only put on less than 1500 miles on my 355 Spider in one year. That is pretty bad since we still have 85+ degree sunny weather in California. Too much work and not enough play makes me very grumpy.

Rick. You don't happen to live in Phoenix,AZ.,do you? Reason I'm asking,is that I go out there (from Chicago) all the time...lots of family out there. And,on my last trip in July,I was driving around, looking at houses for sale, around Lincoln and SR51,and drove past a house, had the garage door open, with 2-360's in it. Thought to my self,"Gee,I'd like to buy THAT house,as long as the garage came fully stocked,as is!"
