Since I had the house and other cars with them, I checked into State Farm for the F355. It was not an agreed-value policy - instead there would be a court case to fight over loss value. In addition, they had a ** %10 ** deductable. I would be afraid to drive the damn thing with that funky of coverage.

Chubb is often recommended, but when I checked, they had serious restrictions on use. Like club (nontrack) events only, "occasional pleasure drives", not leaving it out unattended. When asked I was told that taking it to a restaurant and leaving it outside was "a gray area".

Hagerty fit best for me.

State Farm has mine listed as a "pleasure car". It just so happens I sometimes want a little "pleasure" on the way to work and drive it occasionally.

I use Chubb, they have the best coverage. I have an agreed upon value so if I have a problem I know what amount I am getting. I can drive the car to work, no restrictions and track events are covered. Bit more expensive but you get what you pay for.

Ken, I know about the gray area but the car truly isn't covered if you go to the grocery store with it. I didn't want to test the limits of the policy so I played it safe and went with Progressive.

State Farm. No problems.

Just won't insure a house in Texas!

Craig, there is a gray area on what you can do with Hagerty. While driving to school or work is never covered, you can do weekend shopping, etc. because there is a clause that states you can drive the car as an occasional thing to keep it running. My one claim was on a Sunday and they never asked why I was where I was at the time. They sent a check within a week.

You have to understand that places like Leland and Hagerty are set up for mainly classic cars, owners with multiple cars and cars that are driven infrequently. It's easy to insure under these conditions with an "Agreed Value" and limited mileage. If you read the fine print or ask the appropriate questions on some of these insurers, you can't even use the car to go to the store to get a loaf of bread -- you should be using your regular daily transportation.

That's why it is important to insure with a regular company if you have a "driver", daily or not...

Jerry:

I agree with John, I have had an excellent relationship with Chubb. I saw an interview with the CEO after 9/11 (they carried some of the policies). His line: "We're Chubb, we pay."

And no, my policy did not go up after that.

What a load of crap. Call 21st Century Insurance. I have my 348 insured with them. I don't see them having a problem with a 328.

i use geico, no restrictions for mileage or where i drive it. '87 ferrari 328gts is cheaper than the 2002 5 series and 2003 MINI Cooper S that i have on the same policy.

(BTW - i got quoted only a $5 difference on an '87 328gts and a '95 456GT per six month premium period.

Jerry, when I added my F-Car to my Nationwide policy they said "we do not insure any F-car". "They are on our non-insurable list". I said that is funny because I called twice and you guys gave me a quote. I was getting ready to call someone else and they called me back at 9:30 at night. They said that they could insure it because in California they can insure for the value (read I think they had to based on Califorina Regulations). In any event it is my 4th car and full coverage is $900 per year.

Someone else on here has Nationwide as well. They are really awesome if you have no more than 1 point on your record.

State Farm allows me 7,500 and it can't be driven to work or school daily. However, I can drive it occasionally to work.

when i did my f-car insurance they wanted to know the frequency of use to commute to work. but they didnt' bail on account of it.

i think WHERE work is makes a huge difference. if i were parking it in cambridge or downtown boston that'd be one thing, but at the time my office was out in the burbs. maybe they woulda barfed if it was in the city.

doody.

Jerry,

I inquired with Leland a few years back on my 930.
I read the restrictions they were way to vague.
To many loopholes for them.

I've called both Leland and Hagerty - Neither will insure a car that is being driven to work occassionally. What is the deal with that? I didn't buy the car to sit and stare at it. Any suggestions?
