Right you are,Bob. I have "gotten into it" a little, already, with a couple guys who disagree with my OPINION. Remember. EVERYONE has THEIR OWN OPINION about things. There are no,"Right or Wrong" opinions!(and, you can either agree,or,disagree with me on that, too!) Everyone has their own. And,I saw a saying once, that said,"if there are 10 people in a room, you'll get 15 different opinions" THAT is true, because, some people are indecisive,or,have more than one opinion about a subject...kind of depends on who they're with, know what I mean? You can't "rip" a guy for expressing HIS OPINION,whether you like it or not. Agree with it or not. Whether it's "politically correct" or not. I am older, and grew up before there was any of this "politically correct" Bullsh*t. And,I call it like I see it. However, like Ken posted. I normally try to inflect some humor in my posts, whether you "get it" or not.I am a very easygoing mellow guy. And,am not going to get into a cyber spitting match with anybody. There's WAY too many other things that I'd rather do! But...I am not afraid to express MY opinion about anything. And,will stand by my opinion. Won't back down. And,really could care less if somebody disagree's with it,as,I have much more pressing issues in my life, and it's not going to ruin my day if somebody else doesn't agree with MY opinion. Really,it's not. Now,that bonehead,Big Ones, who had a very short lived session on FChat yesterday. He wasn't expressing any opinions, not at all. He was just being an asswipe. Plain and simple. There was nothing there to debate! And,with such a wide variety of members on FChat, young to old. Owners and not quite yet owners. Wealthy, and not so wealthy. Old school,or politically correct, and so on. You ARE going to get alot of diverse, different OPINIONS about things. No doubt about it. But,don't rip a guy if he expresses his opinion. It's his Constitutional right to do so,within reason. Just agree, politely disagree,or ignore it altogether. My views on life, are going to be ALOT different than someone, who is,say,17 years old. But,you know what? My views might have been the same as his are when I was 17. And,his views might be like mine when he's 43. Who knows! But,despite all of the "differences",we ALL share one thing. A LOVE for FERRARI'S!! No debate there! (except for you porsche and lambo guys who sneak in and express your OPINIONS!!!) Have a nice day all! |

I've been on this board over 2 years now, I asked what now seems like some dumb questions along the way. Had I been attacked like some of the REAL new users I most likely would never had come back and missed out on all the good stuff Fchat has to offer. Ignoring the trolls is the best way to rid ourselfs of them, all they are looking to do is stir up the crap. Every new user that asks what seems to most of us dumb questions are not all trolls. |

Byron, good post. It stems to reason that as F-Chat grows, so does the diversity, and I think most of us welcome that. However, like most well-intentioned set-ups, there is potential for abuse by a select few who choose to exploit this, which in turn can lead to pessimism and a mob mentality of sorts. A few can ruin it for many when they can reinvent aliases and rouse suspicion. Once you've been on here awhile, and get to know someone's thought process and writing style, coupled with this suspicion and it can start to create the problem you've stated. Some of it can be humorous and entertaining, and I've been caught up in it myself from time to time. Overall though, I think we all would like new members to feel welcome and your post is a good reminder that we need to trust/welcome people until they give us a reason not to. |

Well said Thomas. I had been a lurker on here for quite a while myself and was somewhat hesitant to post anything as I'm not yet an F-car owner (still have a few more semesters of school left before the money starts rolling in good this time ) After meeting (albeit briefly) some local F-car owners through a good friend of mine who was a tech at FoWash. it became pretty obvious this isn't just another bunch of car guys, but much more of a close knit community...almost like a fraternity of sorts. So yeah I guess you could say new members are just being hazed by the Old Boyz Club to see if they pass the test...unfortunately nobody's throwing a bitchin' kegger with a bunch of sorority chicks doing keg stands (um, unless nobody told me or I missed the post on that ) Hell, either way with the influx of trolls lately I can see why many of the long standing members here are pretty apprehensive to welcome many noobs although I gotta admit it's pretty damn funny sometimes to see the crap ya'll give these trolling jokers. Great comic relief ...but unfortunately sometimes new legit members get caught up in the whirlwind and get stung too, but fortunately most of 'em stick it out and become welcome members in the end. My only gripe is that there seems to be a lot of super sensitive people on here (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) and it's a bit tough to be open w/o worrying about offending someone and turning a small thread into a PC arguement (see the "Cute Butt Slapping" thread for example). Oh well, either way this place is pretty damn good Just my $.02 worth. |

Gee, I only have gotten 1 MR Green, is that good? Trust me, there area a bunch of WANNA-BE people that LIVE for a kick in the butt. After many years playing with all types of cars the advent of groups like this EVEN WHEN YOU DUMP ON SOMEONE is GOOD for the hobby. For every ButtHead we run into there are at least 50 honest people who want to enjoy the company of people who have the cars they have or Wish they had. IMHO |

It's like a dirty dog with a collar coming into your home and humping your leg - do you just let it hump, or do you say "Bad dog!" and put it outside? When you see that dog again, maybe he's not recognizable as it's fur is matted and the collar is different or missing, but he starts humping your leg - you say "You again! Bad dog!" and put him outside. He comes back with a shampoo and yet another brand-spankin' new collar and heads for your leg - you say - "You again!" but do you wait for him to hump it? For a myriad of reasons, some dogs are lazy and/or stupid and/or just plain ornery and just can't be trained to behave themselves - have self-discipline. So they get verbal discipline. Happens all over the 'net. Not just here. Some can be ignored - some beg for attention, and get it. Thankfully, 99.9% of us are housebroken, recognized as such, and get patted on the head with a "good boy" from the moment we walk in to FChat- not "Good ol' boy" - but "good boy" nonetheless. As for "Good ol' boy" - hey, some recognize themselves through another individual's quirks, mannerisms and so forth. Others appreciate the differences even more so. But if a mangy, ill-mannered, leg-humpin', constantly yipping dog comes along... |

Great posting Byron. So far, as a Ferrari owner for 4 years but a rookie here, it has been a nice experience. I have been amazed at the arguing & combative comments sometimes seen in some of these threads. Your point is excellent-when things get hostile, we should just ignore them. If someone has a different car but enjoys the Ferrari community, they should feel welcome to be here. If they are just here to make trouble or controversy, I am happy to click on another topic & ignore them. Thanks for the suggestions. (the "other" Byron) |

I was a little intimidated when I first started posting being a "lowly" Lotus owner, but I have to agree that the newbies that get flamed seem to bring it on themselves. There are people here who have had a rocky start but then have fit in, while others seem to continue to annoy pretty much everyone. Nothing can be done about that. Bes Rob, while I understand your concerns about cliques, I don't think it's a problem. As an "outsider" I feel pretty accepted by the community because I pick my spots and if I get agressive, I do it with humor and only when I feel something needs to be said. I find most of the heavy contributors are the same. |

Michael, I haven't driven a F-car yet either but I am seriously thinking about renting one. There is a place not far from where I live that has a 360. The first ferrari I saw up close was in Savannah on river street, a 355 spider. I have been dreaming every since. Do you know Cliff Baker? He is restoring a 66 mustang. |

Michael, Dan, Brian, Rob...thanks for the support on this. Everyone has a right to be here - no one can really restrain that in an open, public forum... it certainly has been a privilege for me to interact with the variety of people that make up this great community. I've enjoyed posting and learning about everything on here since even before my first post a year ago... After all, we were all non-owners at one point. The question here is not about ownership or about just being a newbie keeping your nose clean, but more for the people that are currently on here and actively posting to NOT make it into an "Old Boys Club." I think it's everyone's responsibility to keep this an open community and to maintain a friendly atmosphere where people will want to join in on the conversation and "ferrari chat"

( Yesod) yes i am at Gulfstream, i am now down to a 4 speed 78 trans am, a 76 trans am with 31k miles, a 73 camaro. i have a new truck as a driver. when the cars are gone i am going to take care of a few small things and get a 76 to 79 308gts. i know upkeep can be expensive but i am sure that i can figure it out with a factory service manual and some time. i have read old posts and threads for hours and i believe that BYRON has a good point. but as a "new " and non f car owner i consider it a honor to be here and not a " right " i have a lot to learn still, but i feel i am on the right path. i have wanted a 308 from the moment i saw , heard and smelled one. i have never sat in or driven one but that is part of the hunt!!!!!! |

Somewhat related is that I have concerns with an "old boys" club developing on FerrariChat.com. I know it's half-way human nature with any group dynamics and also we tend to trust those we've known for a longer time. However, I hate to see any bulling or double standards that the "old boys" club can get away with more. I'm open to feedback in order to improve FerrariChat.com.

Actually, I'll second this... personally, I think the accusation posts are far more of a problem at this point than the liars' posts. Really, a good liar could easily hang out for a long time... that's been proven. Thus, we should all assume there's a few morons out there who have fun lying. Just like there's a few morons out there who like posting about how lousy Ferraris are just to agitate people. The best advice... assume everyone might be lying... and never ever feed the trolls. Guys, I know that in the recent past we've had a lot of perpetrators and less than desirable posters on this site, but it just occurred to me that all this "witch-hunting" also really makes it somewhat prohibitive for new members to make an initial post. It seems everyone is a target... unless the "newbie" makes a "Hey guys, I'm new to f-chat... this is a great site... I just bought a ***" post, he/she is almost immediately questioned or ostracized. I know that there are tons of lurkers on this site - it just seems a bit more communal to not come down on all new posters. My personal thought is - if you aren't interested in their post, just ignore it... no need to accuse them of being somebody or egg them on to post more "meaningless" posts. I'd hate to see an otherwise open, welcoming community like F-Chat become close-minded and selective about who is/isn't allowed to post. ...just a thought |
