Andreas;

That 400 at Indy was a carburated model, 5 speed on top of that. To bad we did not get the chance to hook up at the dinner saturday evening.

Didn't realize that 400 chop tops were that common. Some nice looking examples here. All appear to be well executed, especially the black campana.

If i am not mistaken it belongs to a fellow F-Chat member "Tifosi12". I did have a chance to talk to the owner, hell of a nice guy. Here is a better pic of that red car.

Rob, nice shot of that 400i in Indy. What kind of car is that red one in the upper right corner?

Check the link there are nice shots of it.

"Exceptional history: Pininfarina factory asked Lorenz to make this very first 400 i convertible in order to be able to take the decision to produce the car or not. Lorenz did a terrific work with an electric powered roof and and using the best soft top locking system coming from Mercedes. The car has been sold to a German collector who enjoyed the car until 1999..."

Jordan;

I have never seen anything written about topless 400i's either, that i why i had to ask. Personaly i like the 400/400i. since it does not stand that much out in a crowd you might be able to take one to the mall or WalMart and not have anyone notice and F$^# with it. I saw a 400GT at the FCA parking lot in Indy a couple of weeks ago but never found out who owned it. Here is a picture of it.

I'm not aware of any factory 400i cabriolets. There is, of course, the 412 cabriolet (s/n 73011) that is believed to have been done as a factory experimental study vehicle.

I had opportunity to see a 400 "cab" that the top had been chopped. Didn't look bad topless.

Ive seen a few in person and always thoguht the factory made a few convertible versions but I cant find any factual evidence to back that up...just an assumption on my part. I love the 400s though and the convertibles dont look that bad with the top down. Top up and its lines are a little awkward but here in SoCal I wont have to worry about ever needing the top up :-)

Thanks guys. I kinda had my doubts as to if it was a factory job.

Ron;

I know what you are saying about that burnt out lump. Even the F40LM in Forza was not that well done. Oh well too each there own.

My ex mechanic had a 400i convertable in for something. He said it was factory but I wouldn't trust anything he said. It was a neat car but the interior had seen better days.

Autocraft did a few, as with their daytona conversions, nice job with a good electric hood, with the price of a good 400 it suprising that more people havent done this

I was just looking at this site and found a 400i convertable.

http://www.specializeditalianrecycling.com/ferrari-parts.html

Does anyone have any more info on these. I.E. is this a factory job? If so how many were produced?

Everything i have read about the 400i talks about coupes. I the latest FORZA they did talk about Scaglietti making a one off 412i convertable. I just have never heard about a 400i.

Thanks
