My buddy has a 94 spider and he says the thing leaks like a sieve! He refuses to drive it in the rain, unless it is just a light misting or something...

I have a 348 '94 Spider. I drive it every day, rain and shine. There is one area that leaks when it rains, 2/3 up the front side of the window-both sides. There may be a way to adjust te glass angle but I have nit tried it yet. Its a great top..manule..lots more durable than the 11 cylinders on a 355.

Top down is terrific, less air than the Boxster or even a SLK. I still need a hat for my long hair, but the husband has no problem.

My top (348 Spider)has only been up once in the past 15 months. Did not leak.
Part of the beauty of having a convertable, is hearing the engine. With the windows up and the top down. My girlfriends hair does not even wave at 60 mph. At 80 it is a different story.

neal - funny you should say that. I sold a '96 993 cabrio earlier this year. Very tight well-built car and quiet with the top up, but driving it didn't excite me the way the 328GTS did. Having said that, the 328 was cramped (to my tastes), and I hated the chassis flex and the way the top leaked.

My wife wasn't that impressed with the looks of the Porsche, but loved the look of the 328.

you better test drive any fcar you considering with the wife at highway speeds. she might not like any of them. may have to consider a porsche for your needs. lol

Dr. Ken - Thanks.

Neal - Thanks, and that's exactly what I needed to know. The wind noise at highway speed would drive me nuts. I do not track and was hoping for something to take long drives & overnight trips with the wife.

Maybe I should stick with a 348tb? Not sure about the headroom though. Maybe skip 348's altogether and just look for a TR? (my original thought) Any advice from those who have been through this before?

spider - no problem in rain but will leak when you wash it but so what. it is noisy at hiway speed though with air leaking in but engine is so loud and its not really an interstate cruiser anyway

Mine only leaks a few drops of water when washing. No leak while driving in rain.
Goodluck.

Greetings. I am considering what to buy, and wanted to know how much of a problem air/water leaks are with 348 Spiders. My 328 GTS used to leak air and water around the seals like crazy and spoiled some of the fun on the rare times I got caught in the rain. I wanted to know what to expect from the 348, particularly the Spiders, but also curious about TS's too.

Also is there much wind noise in the Spiders? Thanks.
