Billy, contact me offline... I don't want to "hijack" this thread too much more than I already accidently have! Generally, cost is based on estimated hours, and comparison with (and making sure I'm lower than) other helmet painters, while I provide a faster turn around with comparable or better quality. Of course, things like Marlboro or other logos add a lot of time. I've got the top grid, stars and prancing horse down pretty pat so it doesn't take unsually long though the detail is exceptional, even when examined up close. Another smaller element of cost is the use of any specialty paints, such as pearls or chameleons, which cost me more than regular paints. Quality paint is often expensive, and the clear topcoat is high too... for example, a quart of catalyzed urethane may cost me $90!

I think that having a personalized helmet really enhances the entire track experience. I enjoy mine, and that's really what started me on the whole thing. (See the archived thread
here which shows mine (the first one I did) and describes the process. But I've come a long way since then!

I like TEAM Ferrari American Racing Team, FART! I may have to this on my race car. Mike how do you price out helmet painting? What does the shui version cost since you do it alot? If you have a totally cutom design how do you price that?

Ben, thanks!

Matt, I'd enjoy doing it (or them) for you! Did you know that Schumacher uses *20* helmets during a racing season?!? :-)

There's a link to my new helmet painting website via my profile.

Second that, Mike is amazing!

Rob- I don't think any of your Rx7 buddies would toss a Ferrari (or an Ferrari themed helmet) off the track!

Best!
Ben.

Mike....I'll contact you before next season starts. I'd like to do something fun with whatever helmet I end up getting. I'm thinking of getting two, because if they don't get enough time to dry out....we all know how 'good' that smells!!

Rob, just for the record: Mike is a helmet artist in his own right. My Schumacher replica helmet is currently with him and what he is doing to it is nothing short of a miracle. I was fortunate enough to see his previous works and the man knows his stuff: The craftsmanship is remarkable and he got the horsey down to a T. Absolutely stunning. Give him any helmet and he'll turn it into a work of art. No kidding, no exageration. Mike you da man when it comes to helmets!

Dave M, thanks for the nice comments. It will be an ongoing series for awhile as long as they have room.

Rob L. It doesn't matter much whether you start with black or white, since it will have to be re-primered before painting anyway, but black is "preferable" if you have a choice. I'd suggest matching your car's colors, and maybe using the 355 "stencil" image that's in your logo. Of course, a prancing horse is always a plus. But as you said, you don't want it too "ferrari-ish" for your other racing endeavors in other cars... of course you can always get TWO helmets! Actually, I do have two myself. I have a full face Bell M3 Pro painted in Schumi style (but without the ads) and an open face G-Force in a black chameleon pearl.

Rob,

Just making sure you have a record of the name change I requested. It still has the old name on the race team page.

It's no longer Pristine Performance.

Jason-

Jordan, just basically your personal or business name in small print on the side of the car. You just tell me what name you want.

One more question, how large is the graphic for the $250 contribution? Is it just text? Would I have to send you teh graphic in hard copy form?

Yes, I'm still accepting sponsorships at any time. They run through end of 2004.

Yes, Mike, the pics were awesome!

You're in my folder. I am very interested. I actually need to get a new helmet pretty soon anyway. Best to get a white helmet?

Not sure what I want to do. I would like something to match the car with much Ferrari stuff, but then I wouldn't want to use it for the SCCA Rx7 racing. I need to think on it.

I'll send an update out shortly. All my avail time has been working on the new software.

1) Just installed the passenger seat belts this weekend, so the car is now ready for passengers if you dare.

2) I put in first order for graphics.

3) I received about 30 shirts and have distributed some. I had to find a new supplier, so I'm working through that right now. All of those who paid will have all their shirts early November. Geronimo - If you tell me your size tonight, I can bring them to the FCA happy hour tomorrow. Jason - If you're in town, let me know if you want your shirts right away.

4) I've been running about once a month.

5) The car was recently displayed at the Italian Carfest in Grapevine.

6) Framed pics and models won't go out until next year because I want most of the graphics on the car beforehand.
