I actually really like the Gallardo. I like the 360 as well but it took some time to grow on me. The Gallardo is one of those cars that I loved the looks of right away.

If you want the looks of the Gallardo but can't afford the sticker price, look into the Ford Focus.

Could anybody enlighten me as to what is the price difference in the US between the Gallardo and the Murcielago?

I would chose the Gallardo over the 360 but not over the 550/575.

I agree with Clax. Gallardo is one of these computer generated 'forged' designs which you can see anywhere around, specificaly in products coming from Germany/Audi. I do prefer Pininfarina's 'human' styling much more...

To me; the only thing wrong with the Gallardo's styling is the ugly front headlight cluster. The rest of the package goes rather well.

The more I look at the Gallardo, the more it looks like a "Ricer". Believe me, I really want to like the Gallardo. I just can't warm up to the styling. Once I realized it looked like the Toyota Celica, it was all downhill from there. The Gallardo should have looked like this:

Ben -

>>maintinence costs of the (mostly) F1-equiped 360s will drive their resale cost down quite a bit.<<

You may be right, of course, time will tell. I'm hearing that the F1 trans is pretty reliable, but that's just word of mouth. I bought the manual because I'm a purist and enjoy using it, not because I thought the F1 would be unreliable.

The Gallardo is the first Lamborghini in a while to look like they were trying to take things off, rather than put things on. That is a revelation/revolution in itself.

Sorry, i dont think the 360 will age well, neither will the 456 or 550/575. The designs are too bland to be coveted years from now.

The Gallardo is an incredible vehicle.

>The manual 360 Modena is a revelation, but the Gallardio is revolution.

this approximates the ferrari / lamborghini rivalry since the early days.
ferrari's success is owed partly to its more conservative approach.

it is unlikely the gallardo styling will age as well as the 360's, particularly those wheels.

>GUESS WHAT...... 360 or Lambo Gallardo

360's everywhere. (in my opinion) automatic disqualification.

Gallardo v 911gt2 v 360 Autocar (UK)august 12 03
Just before handing Gallardo back,i lined it side by side with the 360,rolling at 20mph in secondgear, and run them through to the top on third. From an initial 10 foot advantage, the Lambo never looked back.By 115mph it was several car lengths gone.So it is faster ,more interesting ,beter resolved for road driving and sensationally styled. It is the only one of the 3 that i feel confortable calling a super car.The manual 360 Modena is a revelation, but the Gallardio is revolution.Upload

Gary- I predict in 10 years that maintinence costs of the (mostly) F1-equiped 360s will drive their resale cost down quite a bit.

You are correct that while they are still quite new ('99!) they have a VERY strong market right now.

James- I could not have said it better! Magazines would have you belive most cars are identical save for cup holders and 'slightly heavy' or not steering and the like.

When in reality the 360 and Gallardo are radically different, and some people will just fall in love with each.

And that's never the wrong decision!

Best!
Ben.

Peter -

No offense, hope I didn't go over the line either. Are you in the US? In our market, the 360 is VERY strong. You can buy a new car (after a wait) for less than they are going for on the resale market, all the way back to the 1999 model year. Of course, I have no idea what will happen in the future, but for now the resale is impressive, at least in the US market.

re: Peter's comment: >>the only thing legendary about the 360 will be the rate in which it looses its' value<<

Based on the resale history of the 360 so far, I'd say this prediction is about as accurate as Peter's spelling and punctuation.

Thanks. The photographer Don Hieny always does a great job. His studio is near Lime Rock. He told me I was the only one he remembered who drove up for a shoot rather than showed up on a transporter. That's when that car shines. At 6am heading up old rt 22 as the sun rises and the dew begins....

Once again ALL that matters is which one you enjoy. Buying anything because someone else likes it, wants it or thinks it's cool is IMHO always a mistake. When you're all alone, driving into the sunrise, watching the dew stream off the shape in front of your windshield, listening to the roar, smelling hot oil and feeling the car respond as you push on the loud pedal is when you'll know...

This is a good example of why the first model year of any car should be avoided.

If there is wide spread criticism of some aspect of the car, it'll get addressed in the second model year. Even BMW had to revise the new 7 series after the nearly universal condemnation of Bangle's handiwork (I still don't like it, but that's another issue...).

It's actually kind of a shame that the Lambo is getting that kind of review. As a 360 owner, I was hoping that the Gallardo would push Ferrari into new territory, for the 360 replacement, or a mid-model performance upgrade. Not that I am disappointed by the 360's performance, I am very happy with it. But, more is better.

I have a Gallardo on order, but I don't think I'm going to take delivery of it. The Lambo's goofy styling (that I still can't get used to) and no drop-top means I'll keep the 360 Spider.

n'din, very helpful comments... thanks.

re the "too refined", that is kinda how i feel about the 360 vs. 355 :-) not that i don't love the 360, of course...

"Automobile" felt the same way in their three-way between the new GT40, Gallardo, and 360.

Abangdin,

How you described the feel and gearing was of the same opinions on the TV programme.

You should be test driver for a car magazine....

I have test driven the Gallardo. Yes it is a very good car but I still prefer the feel of my 360. I think the 4-WD makes the steering feel heavy and "unatural". And the other thing I don't like is the gearing for 1st, 2nd and 3rd is too high. It takes too long to reach the red line compared to the 360 and it seems that the car is "slow" when in fact it is not through the first 3 gears.

It would seem that Lamborghini has made the Gallardo for everyday use. It is trying to be a Porsche Turbo. In that respect it may have succeded. To me it's more of an everyday car rather than a weekend car. Sports cars are weekend cars. I have a Porsche GT3 and a 360 Modena and these are what I term weekend cars, for me at least.

Tiff Needell will be driving the latest Lamborghini - the Gallardo. It features an all-new V10 engine developing 500bhp, four-wheel drive and an advanced aluminium spaceframe body. At 115,000, it's a bargain for a Lambo, priced to compete with Ferrari's legendary 360. Can it match the thrill of the Ferrari, one of Tiff Needell's favourite driving machines? After 24 hours spent both on the track and the country backroads of Italy, Tiff delivers his verdict.

Last night FIFTH GEAR TV Programme in the UK had Tiff Needle test drone the new Lambo Gallardo in Italy. He thought the car was good but not as good as the 360 even with 100 BHP more. He actually said the 360 is more fun, better handling then the Lambo Gallardo and that Audi has made the Lambo to refined, not entertaining or involving to drive like the 360. He would put his 100,000 pounds on a 360 not Gallardo..
