guys - that's all wildly helpful info. many thanks. sub-optimal situation - c'est la vie. the S01s on the car are the original tires from its 05/99 build date; with 8K miles on them now. i should be damn thankful they've lasted this long. the rears are absolutely on their way out, but i thought maybe i could get another 1K out of 'em. doody. |

I went to 255/35/18 front and 295/35/18 rear with the Michelin Pilots. I have HRE 9"front and 10" rear and the car's handling is much improved and really sticks. Braking is better with the wider fronts also. No problem with rubbing front or back and car looks meaner with wider rubber.I had the 225 fronts and 295 rears on stock rims with 15mm H&R rear spacers and that worked very well also. |

S03 or Pzero are both great tyres. NEVER NEVER NEVER MIX TYRE BRANDS/MODELS ON YOUR F355!!! Just DO NOT DO IT! REPLACE ALL 4!!! You are begging to get into an accident, and you WILL feel it, even at Toyota Camry speeds. Just wanted to make that warning extra visible :D) Excercise going to 295s in the rear. You will have BETTER ultimate adhesion, but a twinge less feel, and they will 'brake" quicker (as a result of some less feel.) I'm splitting hairs here on the feel issue, you have to track the car (or drive like you're on the track...) to feel it. If this sounds like something you want to do (it's great!) go for it. If you don't know what I'm talking about, stick to 275/40/18 Lastly, my philosophy, don't ever skimp on tyres, your life rides on 'em! I once owned a vehicle on which I spent more on 2 sets of tyres than the entire value of the car. Best! Ben. |

Doody, I was in the same position as you - I mixed S-01s with new S-03s, and it was TERRIBLE; felt unsafe to drive. I ultimately returned the S-03s and bought a full set of Pilot Sports. You have some discretion as to sizes; I and others have gone to a wider rear tire, which helps cure some oversteer. It's also a more available size; if you stick with stock factory sizes in the rear, your choices are much more limited. So, my recommendation is to stick with the stock size in front, 225/40-18, and move from the strock rear (265/40-18) to the larger 295/35-18, which will fit on your stock wheels just fine. You have several options for brands; I use Michelin Pilot Sport (not the Pilot A/S nor the Pilot Sport Cup), which others to whom I've recommended this have also liked. Alternatively, you can go with the Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position, for roughly the same price. Some go for the Pirelli, but I don't like them. BF Goodrich tires are not as good in the wet and/or too expensive. Again, stick with the Pilot Sport or go with the S-03s. If you want to save some money, look into Kumhos or Toyos. You can order Michelin Pilot Sports from Costco, and they'll install for free. Or order from www.tirerack.com, which MAY be cheaper, and Costco will install and balance for $9/wheel. Tire Rack also sells the S-03. vty, --Dennis . |

Doody: I had bad luck (grip wise and balance wise) on S02s (but not on S02PPs), and I am currently on my second set of S03s. I can get 5,000 street miles along with 15 track days on a single set of S03s. Grip is not r-compound levels, but very high. Wet weather performance is pretty good, much better than S02s. I have not tried S02As. Factory wants 225/40ZR18 F and 265/40ZR18 rear I am using 225/40ZR18 F and 275/40ZR18 R. The 275 is a little taller, but smaller than the variance between new and 'slick' (e.g. completely used) tires, so the spedo stays accurate. I couldn't find 265/40 rears. I can find lots of 265/35 rears and lots of 275/40 rears. Of the two, the 275/40 is a much better fit to the factory 265/40 recommendation than are the 265/35s. |

Doody, it is definitely NOT recommended mixing different tread patterns front and rear on such a high performance car. As you have discovered, your tire options are limited. I used the BF Goodrich KDW with good results on my spider at the time, but when I ran into the ultra-limited availability of the Goodyear Fiorano's on my current car, I was able to get a full set of the S01. And this was just in May of this year. Sad to hear they are gone. They are a wonderful tire. I was able to get a set from Service Tire & Truck Center in my area. The Pilot's and Fiorano's are not recommended for the spider because of their stiffer sidewall, which would ruin the ride of the car. I know all too well the situation you are in, and there never seems to be a simple solution.

Doody, I have P-Zeros on my 355 Spider and they work great - got a good deal at TireRack.com. Next time around I might go with the P-Zero Rossos. I've never done track work, but I do drive much faster than I should and when driving in the rain, the stability is excellent with these tires. Rule is that you're not supposed to have mismatched types of rubber compound front to back or side to side. To quote Bill Badurski from the ferrariclubofamerica.com site, "I would not mix different series/compounds on the car... change all four at the same time." Realistically though, unless you're at the track or really pushing the envelope when you drive, you'll never even notice a difference if you use P-Zero's in front and keep the Bridgestones in back till their worn out. Doody, We have had a heck of a time with this issue. The So-1's I have not been able to locate for about 2 months now. What we have been doing is putting on the Pzeros on a fair amount of cars as they are readily avalible. I have no idea why they said no to GY Fioranos, considering a great deal of the 99 Fioranos had, you guessed it...Fioranos on there. Intresting.....Anyways...send me an Email if you need some help locating tires. Cheers! |

Check the sticker in your right door...what tyre came on your car originally? Each 355 has a label that tells what the original tyre was on that specific car. |

i took a nasty screw in one of my fronts. it wasn't a gigantic screw, but it was well into the tire tread. i'm surprised it's still holding air - they must be thicker than i thought. but it's not something i want to experiment with at triple-digit speeds, for sure. the tires on it are Bridgestone Expedia S-01. the rears aren't perfect, but aren't in need of replacing just yet. the fronts are actually in pretty decent shape, so this is annoying - i woulda rathered a rear took the screw! but such is life. i'm being told the Expedia S01 is discontinued. is this true? the bridgestone site makes no mention of that. i can get the Potenza S02 for fair money. BUT according to the bridgestone site they don't come in the rear size (265/40), so come replacement time they wouldn't match. i can get the Potenza S03 for the same money, and those DO come in both front and rear sizes according to the bridgestone site. i'm not wedded to bridgestone. it's just that i'd rather not do all four right now, and i wasn't sure whether it was advisable to run, say, p zeros up front and bridgestones on the rear. is it? [the 355 manual says NOT to use michelin pilot sports or good year fioranos on the spider - why?] any advice much appreciated. doody. Expedia S01:
