If you fancy a ride out to the Rossendale Valley just north of Manchester (I think about 50 miles from you) I own a classic car restoration company, and I would be more than happy to show/explain all the proceedures involved in the job your after.

Most bodyshops are passable repair people but repair and restoration are worlds apart.

The rule that we work to and what you should look for in a restoration is "If you can tell work has been done then the job has not been done properly"

You can get a good indication on how good someone is by there waiting list.If someone can do the job straight away you have to ask yourselve "Why".
If they have a waiting list then their work seems to be sought after.

This is not a tout for the work(we have about 60 cars in at the moment for work),just a offer of advice to another 308 owner.

If you want to give me a ring, the office number is 01706 874874.

regards

steve

if you fancy going up north you could try

Parry and Sherlock
01516476568

They've done both my Ferraris and my Porsche to a very very high standard
And there only 107 miles from birmingham!

Hi Joe :-)

Actually, Shiltech are my local tame mechanics, they're very good and I can highly recommend them, but they dont do bodywork. They recommended the two places who have quoted me 6k and 10k respectively, and when I spoke to Geoff Shiltech a couple of hours ago even he was shocked at the price.

Do you think I'm wrong here ? (opening this question to the floor) .... is, say 6000 GBP (about 9000 USD) too much for a class 1 concours job on a 308GTS, replacing the outer A panels and door bottoms, but no other bodywork needed. And that's not back to bare metal ?

Or is that genuinely the going rate for an A+++ job ? I dont mind paying for quality, but I dont want to get ripped off either ....

Cheers
Nev
p.s. thanks for the other number, I'll look into that

Neville

I think your asking a lot there, Id stick with a company familiar with the dancing donkeys otherwise you may end up with a dead donkey ;-)

Heres a couple ive been recommended

Automobilia Italiane
TEL :01483 729099

SHILTECH PERFORMANCE CARS

Tel : 01509 210620

Hope this helps, dont forget you only get what you pay for

Probably a long shot, but ....

I'm looking for a bodyshop capable of doing a concours respray somewhere in or around the Nottingham or Derby area in the UK (I live on Ashby de la Zouch)

The bodyshops I'm going to (the ones Ferrari recommend and use themselves) and quoting silly prices, like gbp6k and gbp10k and that's not even bare metal (very little bodywork needed either) !

Preferably one that's dealt with dancing donkey's before.

I'd prefer something local so I can drop in occasionally (or at least have the option to)

Thanks in advance, coz I'm running out of names :-)
