Arlie, your photo is clearly a spy shot of the new Ferrari SUV to combat the Porsche Cayenne. It will be called the Calamari & the V12 version will be the Calamari picante |

Bruce-If only I had known you back then. How could I have missed those cliffs? And I'd be retired by now as well. You didn't grow up in the 5 towns area did you? There was this smelly horrible diesel VW always in front of my Camaro Z-28 on Central Ave in Cedarhurst. I wanted to kill him. |

It's quite possible. VW group has been lusting after top shelf brands for quite some time (e.g., Bentley, Bugatti). The ultimate label would be Ferrari, no? This would allow them to effectively fight Ford/Aston Martin, DaimlerChrysler/McLaren, and BMW (especially if BMW ultimately buys Porsche). VW group has been making do with Lamborghini, but would much prefer Ferrari. The link-up between Maserati and Audi is Ferdinand Piech's method of worming his way into the Ferrari group. After all, if Maserati becomes dependent on Audi (VW), it would make it much tougher for someone else to buy Ferrari. And, don't forget, Fiat is swirling around the drain, so it's probably only a matter of time - things could get very interesting when Fiat's option to "PUT" the Fiat automotive operations to General Motors becomes exercisable. If Fiat does force GM to buy, I suspect that VW will then buy Ferrari ASAP. vty, --Dennis Check out this Italian news article from September 20: GERMANY: VOLKSWAGEN WOULD BE READY TO TAKE OVER FERRARI (AGI) - Berlin, Italy, 20 September - If the Fiat crisis carries on or worsens, Ferrari could be taken over by Volkswagen. This appears in the next edition of "Der Spiegel", according to which the recent cooperation agreement between Volkswagen and Maserati may open the way for Volkswagen to take over Ferrari. Der Spiegel writes that "Volkswagen would be prepared to take it over at a reasonable price." It reports that the recent agreement between VW and Luca di Montezemolo plans a close cooperation between the two companies. Volkswagen indeed will supply the platform for the Tuoareg, on which Maserati will make its off-road vehicle, whilst Audi has undertaken to give Maserati the know-how to make aluminium bodywork. In exchange, Volkswagen will be given the platform for the new four-door, which should serve as a base for the next model of "Phaeton", the most luxurious Volkswagen. Der Speigel underlined that both companies gain advantage from such close collaboration and concludes it article stated that "if one day Ferrari is put up for sale, it would almost certainly go to Volkswagen."(AGI) |

Ferrari and Audi have a new agreement to share information. Audi is gaining (I think) the paddle shift technology and Ferrari is gaining 4WD technology. Unfortunately this sort of sharing is common knowadays ... Pete |

Bruce-that brought back memories of "The Thing" I rented in Mexico about 20 years ago on my first honeymoon. I ended up pushing it around Acapulco while my wife who couldn't drive a manual tranny attempted to pop the clutch to get it started, much to the amusement of the locals. When we finally got it going the roar of that straight 12 was just astonishing. And talk about fast. |

I heard through a co-worker that autoweek magazine has stated that VW has bought Ferrari from Fiat. Has anybody heard this? I personally do not beleive this statement. |
