I have a customer with a 360 spider and a GT2.

He loves both for different reasons.

The GT2 is a real race car and the fastest thing he has ever driven in his words.....more car than the Ferrari will ever be.

The spider is a rolling work of art and a "special event" car for going to the golf course or out at nights.

Another TT / 360 guy here. 360 is intoxicating and amazing design. Living in the city, too tough for many roads (read: focus more on avoiding potholes and bumps than enjoying the ride) so more of a weekend driver outside the city. TT easy to drive anywhere (actually would prefer it stiffer than stock) and faster in a straight line but a bit heavy in the curves. Modena is a go-kart, TT an everyday supercar. TT with minor mods, Modena stock except for Tubis.

I've had a bunch of ferraris, including most recently a 550 coupe and barchetta, but am now driving a GT-2. I can't speak to the GT-3, which is supposed to be well balanced, but, at least on paper, doesn't seem to have very much torque; i'll bet its a hell of alot of fun driving flat out though. The 360 will probably seem more visceral, is more exotic looking and while i still find the interiors of the 12 cyl. ferraris to be more interesting than the 8's, generally, they both have the Porsche beat, totally, on the look and feel from inside the cockpit.
On the other hand, the GT-2 (not necessarily a 3) is an absolute scorcher to drive, and i don't know how others find the power assisted steering on modern ferraris, but i find it too much; the Porsche feels very hard-wired.
The AWD P car is a different kettle of parts. I'm told that it is not as raw to drive as the GT-2, which, in my book, is the whole point. Im' not sure i understand the "garaging" part, unless you are saying that the p-car will attract less attention where you park.

Vaughn: I also have both the 360 and 996TT (both '01s). Everybody is right. The 360 draws 10X's the looks, thumbs up, and "nice car" comments as the Porsche. Last week I added Tubi test pipes (replaces factory cats) to go along with the Tubi exhaust cannister. Now it screams like a track car. If I am easy on the throttle I can scoot through town without any annoying looks. The 996TT is a complete disappointment in the exhaust category. I've put over $17,000 into exhaust changes and it still sounds like a Chevy. I have asked the guys at Midwest Eurosport (Chicago) to design an exhaust system with cockpit controlled electropneumatic valves to change from a track configuration to a RUF configuration for Interstate driving. It would be nice for it to sound like the old 993 turbos. I will probably sell it and get a 575 Maranello to cruise around town. IMHO stay away from the Porsches. doc

Guys keep the feedback coming, really appreciated. It seems obvious at this stage that the 360 is really the car I am hoping it will be. The garaging comment is purely width of the entrance as single entrance doors here in the uk are around 2050mm wide and the 360 is around 1922mm wide, the 996 is norrower I think, but I will make it fit in without too much hassle. Now roll on January so I can strart looking for a good one.

Close, I have a 360 and a 996TT; both are 03's and completely stock. I agree with just about all of the comments posted already. I came real close to selling the 996TT two weeks ago and just couldn't do it. The 360 driving experience is more rewarding and involving while the 996TT is just so easy to drive very fast. 996TT is a better daily driver but the 360 always puts a bigger smile on my face.

I've had both a 360 and a 996 tt with X50. I had an H & R supension and GT3 sway bars installed on the 996tt and its handling improved dramatically. From a performance stand point the acceleration on the Porsche is much greater but it cant touch the 360 in the noise, fun, looks, or just the way the 360 is so quick in left to right transitions. Stock the 996 tt had way too much vertical motion in the suspension so I had it set up to GT2 specs. All in all I will never own another Turbo it lost $50,000 within 4 months of my purchase when a GT2 became available that I wanted to make a trade in for, and the Fcar is just so much more fun to drive. I cant wait for my Stradale, as soon as my dealers demo comes (they've already built it)in I'll post my impressions.

I guess I'm one of the guys who as both. I find them to be very different cars. The 996tt is fast (mine is moded to about 585hp) and fun but even my wife tells me I never smile as much when I'm driving it compared to the 360. I was have this same dicussion with a friend a couple of days ago, I'll tell you what I told him.

The 360 in my opinion is the best car I've ever driven when it comes to driver feedback. It is much easier to toss around curves the sound (mine has a GHL exhaust) is amazing and I'm start to like tubo charged cars less and less.

There is a downside, everywhere I go the car draws a crowd, it get lots of notice. Sometime its great to get the thumbs up, nice car stuff, but after awhile it can be abit of a pain. I do not know where you live and you mention a garage problem, if you are in the Northeast like me I'd consider that a big issue, would not want my car sitting outside through one of our winters. I've had 37 different Porsches through the years, loved all of them, but none have given me the feeling I've gotten driving my 360, in fact now that my coupe has gone back to the dealer (spider coming in next month), I find I miss the feeling I had drive the car way more that I thought. I bought a Marerati coupe, put straight pipes on it and I must say I like it better than the Porsche. Just my 2 cents.

There's at least one guy on here who has a 360 and a 996TT. I'm sure he'll chime in soon.

Vaughan, I currently have a '97 993 Carrera and a '00 360 Modena 6 speed. They are both great cars. Of the two, of course the 360 is more exciting, exotic, and more special to drive. However, as Brian states, the Porsche is just easier to use on an all-round basis. The 360 is more for weekend use under controlled conditions (i.e. low traffic areas, nice winding roads, good weather, safe places to park,etc.).
I do think that the GT3 may get closer to the 360 in the thrills department. It probably takes the Stradale to outgun the GT3 both from a fun and performance standpoint. I'd love to hear from anyone's first hand experience with these two cars.
Anyone getting both a GT3 AND a Stradale?

Both are great cars... purposefully engineered. As an exhilirating, driver-involving racecar, the 911 Carrera cannot touch the 360. I'd never dream of taking my 911 out for a "pure fun drive" or to any driving event with my 360 in the garage. And finally, as a head-turner, the 911 is NOT it... too many similar-looking Boxsters in my part of the world... even my modified M3 gets far more looks than the 911. A GT3 might be different, though.

On the flip-side, we put more miles on the 911. Of course, its my wife's daily driver, so that's not too much of a surprise. If we head out on a date, its the car we take... it is gorgeous, very refined, very comfortable, and still lots of fun to drive. Luxuries such as memory power seats and a real nav system and so on do have value. And its much easier to talk to each other while tooling around town.

As far as usability around town, that depends a lot on your definition. Both will hold about the same amount of stuff... the 360 holds quite a bit. But the 911 will hold two extra people, if they are reasonably small. But probably most limiting on the 360 is that I worry very much about where I park it. Almost as troubling is that the 360 really needs to get warmed up... so, I'd never take it for my many really short trips in town... I only take it if its at least 10 miles... so it at least gets warmed up before I turn it off. The Porsche is more like "normal" cars in this regard... its running smooth from the time you turn it over.

The GT3 might offer an interesting compromise... a little more raw, driver involvement, but keeping most of the Porsche polish. I haven't driven one... I'm lucky enough to be able to have both... so, I don't need the in-between.

Hope that helps.

Brian, thanks, so what are you impressions on both cars? I am not looking for an everyday driver, but ease of use on weekends and useability around town etc.could be important. I dont intend to use the car in heavy traffic scenarious much, so open road use is possibly a higher priority.

Does anyone here own both a 360 and Porsche GT3 or Carrera 4S. I would love to hear the drivers comparsion of someone who regularly drives both. As I am in the market for a 360 but could have problems garaging it a GT3 or C4S might be the sensible alternative. As my Pcar friend says 'come over to the dark side'
