Mike bringing over a euro car can be very tricky. On some years around the mid 90's you have to purchase an entire new dash with airbags to have the car approved. This is just the dash. Obviously there is more to modify besides the dash. Of course that is going to cost a small fortune. Each model year has specific requirements for importation. I looked into all of this. It never made any economic sense. You have to deal with the DOT, and EPA. Shipping and insurance fees. Someone told me that the agriculture dept wanted to make sure you had no soil on the car in the tires and the wheelwells. I do NOT know; if that is true ? You also have some F dealers that will not work on a euro car. Zero warranty and difficult to unload when you want something else. P-car recent example: I see the new P-car (02 GT-2's with less than 500 miles) GT-2's for 35-40K less than the same as new American cars. I suppose that worked ok when buyers were paying 50K over sticker in early 02 for a US GT-2, when it was introduced. You can now pick up a new 03 GT-2 from a dealer for 10K "under" sticker. The buyers who bought there cars in from Europe are stuck in a buyers market with drivers looking for US versions at good prices. For the "most part" the only time it makes sense to purchase a euro car; is when it cannot be purchased from a dealer in the USA. 512 BBi 959 Diabolo GT It is enjoyable to try and find a terrific car for a good price. I originally saw nothing wrong with euro cars as an option. The problems I see are service and resale. I suppose it "may" work; if you are willing to keep the car for a long time. Good Luck |

Couldn't a euro 512M be brought over? It seems part of the rarity of this car is that only 75 were brought to the US from the factory... but it seems many more were produced worldwide. This seems to be the sort of car that is ripe for being imported... high demand here, lots available overseas, etc, etc. |

The European version has 440 vs. 432 for the US due to different Cats. I paid $160K for mine 18 months ago. It had only 4,300 miles at the time, mint condition(won Platinum at Cavallino and the FCA Nationals in 1999). It is the finest car I've ever owned. The performance is definitely above the 512TR and I think the HP rating is very conservative. Plus, with the right performance enhancements you can easily see 500hp or more. A 512M runs in the Historic Ferrari Challenge series in the UK and it reportedly has something like 580hp with no cats, reprogrammed ECU and some cam timing adjustments. The car revs much, much quicker than the 512TR due to less reciprocating mass(titanium conrods, different pistons, lightened crankshaft, etc.) As far as market value, I would suspect a fairly low mileage car, mint would run about 140-150k right now. However, I really believe this car will appreciate over time due to its relative rarity and visceral appeal. The yellow car on Sheehan's website was sold I believe and then fairly quickly showed up again on his site, so I don't know what the story is there. If the car is sans any damage/paintwork and has had the major service I would say that would be a very good deal!! Regards, Mark |

I don't have any sales numbers, but I would "guess" that they are dropping in price. Here's a pretty nice one, if you like yellow, for $129K. http://www.ferraris-online.com/cars/FE-512M-100094/main.shtml
