I attended my first Petit LeMans this weekend and it was great. I really like the longer format and think all ALMS races should be 10 hour events. It differentiates them from Grand Am and strengthens the ties to LeMans, but it creates difficulties with the tv schedule, especially since the ALMS buys their air time. But ya gotta hear that Maranello up close at speed! The cars were magnificent. Congratulations to Ferrari and the teams. |

I'm a bit annoyed with SpeedTV's coverage. As many commercials as a Turner channel, and when they cover the race, they spend most of the time on the front runners (GTP900). Same with their SCCA coverage -- I'd like to see more than a mention for the cars that aren't at the front in Open class. Oh well, I guess even bad coverage is better than none at all. |

Here is a picture of Peter Kox, Tomas Enge and Alain Menu who co-drove a Ferrari 550 Maranello to victory in GTS, although rival Corvette hung in to claim the manufacturers crown (David Allio photo). !! |

From speedtv.com GTS class honors went to the Prodrive Ferrari 550 Maranello of Tomas Enge, Peter Kox and Alain Menu, while finishing second was another Prodrive Ferrari driven by Jan Magnussen, David Brabham and Anthony Davidson. The two team cars battled strongly for most of the race and finished 1.053sec apart."We'd like to have won more races and the ALMS championship, but we won Le Mans and the Petit Le Mans this year, so it was successful," said Kox. "Driving all year with Tomas has been a pleasure." "Our car has become so much better and stronger," said Enge. "The changes that have been made have been very good for the car and the team. The last four races, we have won." In the GT class Ralf Kelleners and Anthony Lazzaro finished third in the Risi Competizione Ferrari 360 Modena.

A great race on Speed. Even had drama and action! Felt badly for the green Ferraris going off. Guess I'll have to eat more at Olive Garden so they can afford to keep them in. The Prodrive Ferraris looked great!

Richard, It was a great race to watch on SpeedTV, just wish they showed ALL of it. Glad Ferrari won first, second, and fourth. Looks like we are doing well over the Corvette :-) Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin

Ferrari took 1st and 2nd in the GTS class here in Atlanta today in a pair of 550 Maranello's. I think we took a third in the GT class in a 360 Modena. My son and I proudly represented Ferrari on the sidelines in our f355. Hope to get a bigger crowd next year and have our own corrall with a little help from FOA (hint hint!) It was pretty hairy at times. In GTS, the class-leading Prodrive Ferrari 550 Maranello escaped a scare in the fourth hour when it clipped the Joest Audi and was tipped into a spin. Aided by Road Atlanta's plentiful run-off space, Enge was able to resume unscathed and maintain the car's advantage over its sister No. 80 entry, alhough both cars were on the same lap and running together at the end of the fifth hour. The two Corvette Racing C5-Rs run third and fourth in class, with the No. 3 of Ron Fellows, Johnny O'Connell and Franck Freon and the No. 4 of Kelly Collins, Oliver Gavin and Andy Pilgrim three and four laps back of the Ferraris, respectively. Those positions would be enough to lock up the GTS manufacturers title for Chevrolet, however. O'Connell has already clinched the drivers crown. |
