Thanks a bunch guys! I really want to keep the car OBD I, so I guess the 95 is going to be my year of choice :-) Are there any VIN runs I should look out for? Is the 95 Throttle By Wire? I will keep searching this wonderful site for more info.

also, the forza 355 buyers guide issue is a tad dated but still educational. from 2000, i think. get in touch with Ross Periodicals in Ross CA (search) and it's $6 or so.

good luck. tons of folks here happy to help. spend a couple hours doing basic searches here and you'll get up to speed pretty quick.

doody.

Monte -

Do a search here and you'll find tons of info..that's what I did before buying and knew more about the 355 than most salesmen at the dealer.

In a nutshell: Car came out in 95 and that year had an OBD I computer, 96 - 99 has OBD II.

Major issues: 95, 96 and some 97's have valve guide problems..a PPI with leakdown can determine. The older cars had soft guides (bronze I think) and then Ferrari went to steel guides in mid-96, however they continued using the older guides in thier production inventory and cars into 97 had reported problems.

Cats & exhaust manifold cracks...check during PPI and the Fed warranty on the cats is good for 7 years in most states.

Timing belts - This is an engine out service and must be changed at 30K miles or 5 years. Depending on the year of car you are buying make sure the belts have been changed.

That's about it. Very reliable car and perfect for daily driver.

If you post what year you are looking to buy and what model (spider?) we can provide you with more info.
