Given the amount of overall reduction in components in order to reduce weight in the 360CS, it's quite amazing Ferrari was stil able to come up with a car DOT approved in America.

I wonder what would be easier -- starting with a 575 GTC and trying to make it into a street car, or starting with a 575M and trying to make it into a "street racer" (ala 360 CS)?

Agreed regarding the motive for marketing the 360CS... smart marketing. Good for Fspa and good for the consumer

although i 110% doubt they'd EVER do it, isn't the maranello a steel frame? swapping it out for aluminum like the 360 would be a major weight savings - would it not?

doody.

I dont think you could down a road 575's weight to a GTC's.
But you could probably strip 200 kgs from a 575.
Electric seats, radio, radio, interior sound proofing, ceramic brakes ,carbon air box , mayboe a carbon roof , aluminium doors and hood, Magnesium wheels...

"the 360CS is in some part (we can argue small or large) just marketing to give an aging platform a shot in the sales arm"

No doubt, and probably in large part. But it sure worked for me!

How much can you "strip down" an ordered 575? Could you eliminate radio & a/c, select light seats/other deletes or changes to reduce weight? In other words, could you achieve something like a 575CS through the normal ordering process?

not only do i think that there'd be demand for such a vehicle, but the maranello line needs a short in the arm anyway. so why not, FSpA?!??!

lest we let ourselves get too far from the cold hard facts, the 360CS is in some part (we can argue small or large) just marketing to give an aging platform a shot in the sales arm.

the maranello deserves nothing less, imo :-)

details notwithstanding, i think i'd buy one in a heartbeat.

doody.

Having driven a '99 360 street car and '00 360 Challenge, I agree that the 575 F1 seems much faster and smoother.

I also agree about the exhaust note, you've probably seen past threads here discussing solutions.

Lighter also would be fantastic. So, add me to the waiting list.

Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?!

Just wishful thinking, but after my experience driving the 575M F1 in Germany a few weeks ago, I am just in love with this car. As good as it was, I can't help but thinking what a complete animal this car would be if it was:

1) Lighter.
2) Louder.

A less restrictive exhaust that really lets the V12 sing LOUDER would be where I'd start. Then I'd trim at least 600 lbs from the car. Probably also firm up the suspension just a tad.

Then I realized, Ferrari is already building something similar in the 575 GTC, except it cannot be driven on the street! Thus, my thought about a "575 GTC Stradale." I really think it would be my ultimate dream car.

As an aside, I'm one of those guys who dislikes the F1 system -- I prefer the extra driver involvement of a 6 speed. But up until now, I had only driven the F1 in a 360 Modena. The F1 system in the 575M is so far superior. I really think the system works better behind an engine with more torque. The F1 in the 575M and in the Enzo are SO much smoother than in the 360 Modena.

So, when will Ferrari build my 575 GTC Stradale??!!
