Thanks for all the valuable comments, it helps in making a final decision....I have serious hesitation, by the way, the asking price is USD70K....even if i do go for it, i have to get an independent to check out the car. / thanks to all for your response. |

6. Car is offered by dealer, suppose i dont ask the dealer to do a mechanical PPI and paid for it? this is generally a BAD idea. have the PPI done by another shop independent of the seller and shell out for it. you don't want any conflict of interest on a PPI. it's the cheapest ferrari insurance you'll ever buy. doody. |

Take your time to find a clean 512TR. You won't be sorry. Ron S. (So Cal Fchatter) just bought a 512TR from Harris Imports, and it amazing in and out. The car is clean, runs strong, and sounds awesome. there are no shortcuts in ferrari purchases/ownership... do the homework and have some patience - the right one for you is out there!! |

Color changes are rarely done to nice cars as it devalues the vehicle significantly. They are usually done to vehicles with serious accident damage. Run...don't walk. |

I agree. Run away. Just the major service with clutch will cost anywhere from $8,000 to 12,000, depending on who does it and what else is required. It will be extremely easy to rack up much more than you would pay for a great higher mileage 512TR, when you consider the repair costs and anything other than a nominal purchase price. And even after you fixed it, it would be a hard car to sell. |

You don't mention price. Unless this car is super cheap I would pass. Lots of red flags and if you ever resell you will take a bath for the same reasons you are questioning it. I don't like the idea of a repaint AND the doors are out of alignment as well as the hood. That says accident to me. |

A TR opporturnity has turned up, I hope TR owners out there would help with some pointers to help me make a decision whether to pursue or pass. Many thanks to all of in advance. Here are the details : 93/93 TR, white orginal, repainted metallic black by late owner, total of 4 owners. Dont know real reason why it has been repainted, other than the standard answer....want a different color Euro version, show miles, about 9000miles, genine or not, no proof. Serivce records to be reviewed, claimed no work required, unsure of last major or minor, cam belt, clutch etc at this point. Serviced by independent garage. Service records need to be reviewed but not provided as yet. Here are the glitches I have observed on visual inspection : 1. Front Hood does not stand up by itself, and it does not close properly when lightly pressed at both contact point, force (both hands used) is required to lock down the front hood. Could it be due to repainting where the entir front hood has to come off, or could it be due to accidents ? 2. On both side of door, just above the ferrai name plate on the floor pannel under the door, there are gaps between the rubber zeal (about 1 inch) running along the edge of the door sill, very noticable. Why? dealer cannot explain 3. I notice very heavy and no free play on the clutch, the engine was not yet started. Normal or worn already ? 4. The foam pieces under the engine hood and the front hood require replacement. 5. what should I offer for the car ? 6. Car is offered by dealer, suppose i dont ask the dealer to do a mechanical PPI and paid for it? 7. Any idea of maintenance cost? like cam belts, major service, clutch etc.? Any suggestions or vote to pursue or pass is much appreciated. / Thanks |
