I did originally want a yellow one, but the car itself had to appeal to me and this one really did, though three other yellow ones appealed to me as well. The bottom line is this one was closest to me, only 1350 miles and priced very right for me. I do not know the name of the color of the leather interior, but I will look it up this evening. Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

Hi Coach:

Thanks for the positive feedback re: CarStore of Glenside. Carol said you were always a pleasure to work with. Be sure you write our phone # on the front of your title. We want that 550 when you are through with it.

Coachi, the car is a beauty!! As to the modular wheels, I don't recommend them. They are beautiful, but tend to leak even more than the one piece wheels. I have them on my 550 and while I love the look, they require that I check tire pressures VERY often. I'm actually thinking of getting the one piece 575 wheels as a replacement. Glad to hear you're enjoying the car. I agree about the CarStore of Glenside. Very nice people with no axe to grind. You haven't lived 'till you've gone yellow though!!

Beautiful car Coach. There can't be many in that color.

From my perspective, a Maranello is a "No-Drama" car. It will do whatever you ask it to do, perfectly.

Wanta cruise at 140? (Don't ask me how I know.) No problem.

Want do the twisties, let's rock. (Although, tight twisties get a bit choppy. It is a big, heavy car.)

Need to pass 5 RVs in a row on a two-lane highway, no drama baby. Just ease on out and fly.

Need to putt along during rush hour, it will do it no questions asked.

Getting hot? Crank up the AC.

Coming in a bit too hot into a corner, go ahead and add one final braking effort before turning in, even though you are already turning in.

For someone who doesn't have the time to fool with a vintage car, but wants that same feel, a Maranello is your car.

I'm told that an Daytona is a truck below 70 and comes alive above that.

The Maranello is a very easy car to drive at all speeds. But, man on man, when you get into triple digits, this car really shines. This car was made for long power sweepers. You first run your favorite sweeper at 6,000 rpm in 4th. Then you go back and run it at 6,000 rpm in 5th. I haven't had the guts to do it a 6,000 rpm in 6th yet.

The only downside is that a Maranello is actually a GT car, instead of a true sports car like the 360. Instead of a tiny dancer, you are driving a mako shark. Late braking is not a good idea. You want to make sure that you have everything under control before powering into a turn.

Having said that, I'm still waiting for my chance to drive a Daytona at speed. Anybody want to swap cars for the day?

As for the Carstore of Glenside...there are real superb people... I had a great shopping experience with them. I thought they were totally honest. And I did not buy their car.

Wow - very sharp looking! Is that Rosso Barchetta over Cuioi (sp)? Very unique! Any interior / door open shots to contrast the exterior?

Coachi,

Thanks for the comparo. Glad you're enjoying the 550 so much. As for noise, nothing sounds better than the Fuchs/CarGraphic. Ask anyone who has heard them to compare (Dave, Ben, Norman, etc.)

Oh, and Wayne's right - get moving! It's so funny how 80 seems like you're barely moving. You'll find that the car pulls hardest from 80-140.

PS: What tire pressures are you at?

and I forgot to say this, even a newer car with hardly any miles (1570 now or so)still needs some care...I am looking for the "barchetta" wheels, worry about whether the tires are leaking air or they just look so low...there is no Ferrari that doesn't need something done to it...but..that is the nature of the beast...you either love it or hate it.

I have been asked by several board members to post my impressions about the 550 maranello vs. other cars that I drive in my horse stable. First, it is hard to compare an older rear engined Ferrari (TR or Boxer) to a front engined modern Ferrari. It is easy to compare a 550 to a daytona. In one simple statement...the 550 is a modern car with many creature comforts (still no GPS and seat settings memory for example)but definitely a very user friendly car. My car idles so quietly I need tubis to convince anyone listening to it that it is a Ferrari. It is so civilized in traffic..it acts like any normal car. The A/C works superbly, the radio can be heard easily in the quiet cabin..needless to say, my daytona A/C, though it works as well as it did when it left the factory, is still very very weak on a hot day.

Enough about creature comforts. Let's talk about the drive. The steering is so easy compared to daytonas...and the car sits very sturdily on the road and the faster you drive the more glued to the ground it seems. I drove the car home 200 miles the day I bought it and it did not hiccup once. The tires were underinflated but I had forgotten to check those low profile tires..took care of the problem when I got home.

And the raw power this car has...going 80 is like standing still. It begs you to give it more juice and promises not to disappoint. I am told driving 120 is like driving other cars at 80. I will have to see about that. The seats are firm and very well fitting my 5 foot 10 inch frame. I am amazed that Ferrari decided to engineer windows that open a couple of inches when the car door is opened and then move up by themselves to fill the gap when the door is shut. Bravo...

It is so much fun to drive; I never remember anxiously waiting for another opportunity to drive other Ferraris that I own. I don't ever remember being that excited about any of my other cars...and I have owned a few during the years. I just want to go to the store, go anywhere just to drive it.

Yes, driving a daytona is a great experience and I love the looks and the raw power...but this is a modern Ferrari...God only knows what it is to drive an F50 or an Enzo...I guess I will never find out. But I am thrilled to finally have a daily driver Ferrari that is not a worry to drive.

So I will let my other horses rest while I exercise this one. I posted some pictures in another thread and I will post one in a minute.

Cheers
