It's interesting to see all of this GT 40 lust on this site since they were built to beat Ferrari at their own game (and did). |

When I was growing up in San Diego my dentist had an original GT40 as his daily driver... White with blue stripes. I was probably the only kid who wanted to go to the dentist on a daily basis. If I were going to get an American ride, it would be the GT40, the Viper does absolutely nothing for me.... I see them on a daily basis here in Little Rock. And we probably have more new Vetts per capita then anywhere else, they start to grow old looking after a while. I wish we had more nice 67 or 69 Vetts running around the area, that would be nice.... |

My brother and I cannot wait....another 16 months and we should take delivery of our GT40. We are #1 on the list from the largest SVT dealer (will only be sold through SVT) in NJ. Deposit is in, and contract signed. Just have to decide if we like the blue with White stripes, or the Gulf racing livery. |

The only problem I can see with the GT40 is with the modular engine. If its like all the others I work on, it'll need a right head gasket after its out of warranty. Not to mention sensors failing on the regular basis tripping the "service boat anchor soon" light. |

When I was growing up (still have not done this yet) Ford GT 40 at Lemans---what a car. This was my dream car until the 308 came out. I will have to do some serious thinking. |

The all new 93 Viper, that is getting all the press this month...looks more like the 550 Barchetta then it looks like the old Viper style. The Hard-core Viper guys don't like it. I like the fact that it looks a bit more classy. Almost a bit boxy looking like some of the FX square styling shapes. Must be the new trend amoung the design world. I've never seen a Saleen S7. Isn't that car too low for street use? I don't count it as an exotic ..its more a track car ? |

Greg, I'm with you. The first time I drove a Viper, I remember thinking how it's nothing but a fun car. Pure power, no BS. With the cars we're talking about here, I think the Viper gives the best bang for the buck, especially the older, less expensive models. I've always liked cars that had a unique personality and look, too. Not to knock Corvettes, but like Porsches, you see them everywhere. A Viper stands out. I'm not a "look at me" person, just that those cars get my pulse going a little more. |

Chris, so...the yellow 355 is having its place taken by the GT40? Call me when you are ready to hand over the keys to the 355. |

I musy admit I have a contract on a new GT40. A friend of mine is a Ford dealer and he has been assured one (1) GT40. I do not know when it will be here, probably a couple of years. I always wanted a Pantera when I was growing up, so I do not want to regret not getting a GT 40 when I have the chance. Chris |

GT 40 hands down. I'm not a big fan of 'tribute cars', but if they're going to make it anyway, bring it on. If the price is truly in the $100,000 range it will be a great deal. Authentic GT 40s are running around $325,000-$550,000 at the moment. BTW Andrew, I appreciate your Ferrari-or-nothing attitude but it's time to get real. Ferrari more reliable than a Ford? I don't think so. But we don't buy them because they are reliable, do we? |

If I were going to have to actually use the car then the Coevette would win hands down. You can drive a Vette forever with virtually no maintenance and beat the crap out of them and they keep on going. |

I'd probably opt for the Viper. The pure power is brutal. Vette's and any GM for that matter just doesn't have the build quality to seriously consider it (IMHO). I rode in a 2000 vette and the fit-n-finish was sub-par. |

agree with Ross, don't fall into the trap of believing there will only be 100! Having just unravelled myself from a modern german 'must have it now, low volumes' type motor, only to find they were pretty well everywhere within 1 yr of prodcution, i'd always wait a while in future. Let some other mugs take the 'novelty value' hit, cos boy does it hurt financially when they cease to be quite so rare! |

so many cars, so little time.......unfortunately this thread falls into the 'if i win the lottery' category, since i cannot currently see myself owning more than 3-4 cars in central london. but, all that said, the ford gt40 will be without a doubt the number one american lust mobile when it gets built. the viper, great though it may be just looks too cartoonish for me. the corvette is too 'every man' imho. so a limited run remake of a legend with modern engine mgmt and appointments will be an incredible seller. btw, i also don't think they will stop at 100, as they say. it will probably be at least 100/yr for 3-5 years, so the 'bargain' hunters among us should probably wait 2 years before buying. |

Mr. Ford Jr. is staking the turn-around of his Great Grandfathers company on the image of the GT-40 so I am expecting with all the engineering talent they pour'd into the GT-40 project.. that it will be a very reliable car. I saw one at the Detroit Auto show and the motor is breath-taking. Very cool. I am impressed with the new Viper and C6 as well. ( I'm still a Ferrari lover first and by a long shot, but I'd enjoy hearing ideas about what all you guys think ) |

I have owned 6 mustangs in my life ('85,'87,'89,'91,'93,'95) and all of them were very reliable and had lots of mileage on them. THey use a lot of gas, brake pads and rear tires, but thats is about it. At least they use timing chains in the motors and not belts.

I use to tell my car friends that I couldn't buy an American car because there was no American exotic, and especially no mid-engine exotic being made in the U.S. Looking at "Motor Trend" today, I have to admit the New Viper is classy looking, and 500hp, 500 tork(motor-head joke), 500 cubic inches for $70k not too shabby. Ford's new 2003 F-40 looks real good. I'm so happy we finally have a mid-engine American made car. (going to be impossable to get one the first year) So if you had to buy a American made toy ??? Which one? Ford F-40 Viper C6 Vette
