Ive have had both CLK 230K and new M3 (coupe). I drove around 8k miles with CLK and there was nothing wrong with it, but it was just boring... Instead, the M3 left a very good impression on me, it was very powerfull and better looking in my opinion. Well, it was a coupe and some people say the convertible feels much heavier and slower. Still, if I were you - I would definately buy the M3 Convertible, much much better quality (especially the interior), goes like mad ape and in my opinion has much higher street cred. PS. Only car I felt better than M3 was Ferrari, thats why I sold the M3 and bought a TR. Hmm, how about if you forget the CLK and buy a Ferrari??? |

If she likes speed, handling/response I'd go for the M3. A friend of mine has a CLK and he gets more looks (if this is a priority) and his wife drives it all the time. |

I bought a SLK32 AMG for my wife. Now she can get to parking places at Krogers faster than anyone. Can't find anything wrong with car other than it does not get 30 mpg on highway and rearview mirror is a bit small. It is quick. Good stealth car. But it is a two seater. Her other car is a 400E, probably the best car we have ever owned. |

I know there is no "Brand Name Prestige" with the Chrysler Sebring and no "Snob Appeal" but dammit there isn't a better convertible out there regardless of price. If you are REALLY looking for a convertible and not a "Brand Name" you need to try a Sebring. It is not the #1 selling convertible in the world for no reason. Do you see them on every street corner? You bet you do, and the owners are having a ball in them! |

Get a Sebring Convertible. Save the money and the hassle. We have a CLK430 AMG and the car is a piece of S+it. It rides okay, but you will lose the inlet of the front spoiler every parking bumper you hit (or in our case the valet (I know guys, but the wife)) This is a mere $400 item. Little plastic piece that if put in right would not pop out on a breeze of wind! Just one of the many things that is wrong with that car! I am 6'4'' and can barely see out of the rear window, forget the 3/4 visibility! You are bound to hit a pillar with the car backing out of somewhere, hit a pedestrian or run over your kid in the driveway. * The key does not work * the garagedoor opener does not work (reply from the MB tech, it is my garage door opener that is not compatible. On the SLK it did do the trick though and the SLK and CLK is the same gfaragedoor opener for both models) * cupholders break * little parking light bulbs are $10.00 a piece. You could buy the cheap 50c pieces at Auto Discount but they made sure to relocate one of those pins so you have to buy their bulb at a little mark up! If you ask me Mercedes Benz is a classic example of a good company gone bad trying to be more "american". In styling they have come a long way. The SL is a great looking car. So is the CLK. The SLK is built for short Italians. Even Ferrari realized that there are people like me that need a tad more legroom. So much for innovation. Can't say much good things about BMW either though, sorry. She should buy a Mondial. At least she gets a reliable car! |

The new CLK Coupe is a great looker with no B pillar and good visibility. They interior build quality has apparently also been improved greatly. |

I had drove both CLK conv. and M3 convertible, the CLK has blind spots with the top on and the rear end is a little higher than most conv. to look over your shoulder. Although the M3 is faster, it didn't make me wow any more than the CLK. The M3 sounded like crap from the stock exhaust system. Considering CLK AMG is automatic, it is better than the M3. I'd take the CLK AMG convertible over the M3 convertible and it looks better when fixed up. Owning 3 Benzes I can tell you that they are built solid. If you are getting a coupe, you can't beat the CL 600, period.... |

Another Daimler mercedes car you may want to look at is the Chrysler Sebring Convertible. It has comfortable seating for four, adequate power, minimal cowl shake as compared to a BMW, power top that opens and closes in seconds, and water tight even in a car wash. I have owned 3 of them since 1996 and will buy again unless the new Chevy Bel-Air does not come to pass.http://www.chevrolet.com/belair/index_press.htm |

Chris, I had a CLK 55 AMG. Damn it was fast, made my 355 feel VERY slow. Great stealth car. I had no problems with car. I drove non-AMG CLK variations and they left me cool, but after a few tire smoking burnouts in a CLK 55, nothing compares. Whart has a good point though, too much plastic for a $80,000.00 car, but excellent road feel and handling on the CLK55 AMG. I have a friend that has a black/black Brabaus CLK convertable for sale, it is a 430, not a 55, but still fun. I think both the BMW and Mercedes are good cars, she probably will have the same results (good and bad) with either car. Chris

I have very mixed feelings about the newer MB's. They do not have the old, "built like a Panzer" quality; their "modern" engineering still does not reach the level of driver involvement that can be gotten from a BMW. Now, i have owned a 6.3 (classic, hi-speed lux-barge), a newer E (a jap car w a 3 pointed star) a new C (an even more japanese car, which emulates the japanese emulating the germans). i have driven the end run of sl's both in 500 and 600 form (more like the old style truck types MB is famous for) and the new cl600 (the only one i really like, of the current models). Drove a turbo clk coupe in europe for a few days 3 weeks ago: ok, but a weird combo of no road feel, jellybean styling, and frankly, not that comfortable; have not driven all the AMG variants of the new cars, but horses and torque alone, are no substitute for finess. And since the cars are no longer built like teutonic battleships and have alot of cheesy plastic inside, you get neither that bankvault feeling nor the road feel that would be the logical substitute from these more "modern" cars. |

I think Martin has/had one and had a lot of problems with his CLK. Definitely go with the M3! |

Willis is right. The M3 convertible has 333 hp and a 0-60 in 5.0 sec.. From my understanding BMW will be selling this model with a F1 shifther.. You can't beat that with a bat!!! |

I recall reading on previous threads that certain Mercedes models were questionable in terms of quality, reliability, and performance. A friend of mine is looking into a CLK convertible and I thought I'd ask the experts on this site what their thoughts were. She's open to other cars, but is basically trying to find a four seater convertible that is comfortable, reliable and sporty - any recommendations? (Yes, I already tried to sell her on a Mondial!) Thanks! |
