Feeling really bummed about missing Goodwood - I don't know where you guys are meeting, but I'm picking up my car in Egham at 9am and then going clockwise M25 to J27 - if you're in that area, give me a fly-by :-)

Hey guys

I've looked at a lot of satnav stuff, the one I've got is the new Kenwood one - I really like it, it's a nice unit and makes the one I've got in the Bimmer look very lame. The way the screen folds away is pretty cool.

http://www.powerengineering.co.uk/acatalog/car_gps_kenwood_KVT920DVD.htm

I also went a bit overboard once I knew they were going to have the car for a week, so they've put a false floor in the boot, fitted a TMC unit, and voice recognition, and put a Music Keg in (http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/product.jsp?productTypeId=30&sortBy=price&productId=2474), a CD multichanger, a Kicker 4 channel amplifier, they've uprated the standard speakers and put in rear speakers too, housed in a unit kitted out to match the trim on the car. All fitted so it can be easily reversed.

Before anyone replies and toasts me about how I should be listening to the engine and not the stereo - yeah, you're right and I mostly do, but when I do want to listen to music, I wanna listen right. Standard speaker kit is hideous! Not a complaint, just an observation :-)

Cheers
Paul

Spider,

I don't know about the other dealers I've only ever used Maranellos.
The individual machanics there are very good.
Got to know them pretty well thru Club Fiorano
(part of ferrari uk).
They're all very helpful.

Got a Becker On-line Pro Nav Sat fitted a couple of years ago.
Works well never had a problem with it.
It looks like the Cd player fitted as standard on 360/550 but with the extra functions of a Phone/email, MP3 and Nav.
No popup screen which is a plus but on the minus side only minimal instruction readout on the front panel.
Good Audible instructions which get louder as you drive faster to counteract the road noise.

Sorry I can't make Gooodwood tomorrow
but I'm sure you'll havve a great time.

Are you going round the track?

I've been round Goodwood a few times and found it quite a technical circuit and very fast.

My best times were as follows:

F 360 Man........1:43.02 on Pirelli P zero
F360 F1..........1.41.05 on Pirelli P zero
F 360 Challenge..1:28.71 (slicks)Don' know type
F 550 Man with Tubi..1:38(abt) no telemetary fitted. on Pirelli P zero Rosso.

Shud give you guys something to aim for..

Have fun

Chetan,

I will speak to you about it tomo, but im taking advice from my solicitor about the matter, and if Ferrari arnt carefull they will have this car back as a second owner car before they can say" Schmacker"

Once they really piss me off thats it i will drive it back and they can keep it or replace it.

Spider,

Sorry to hear about your service problems.
I also live nearer to HRO but have found them impossible to deal with. I just don't think they care whether you buy a car form them or not. Three times i've tried and three times and three times I had to go to Maranellos.

I've tried get my handbrake sorted out 2 weeks ago and was told I could not get it into the shop until the 1st of NOVEMBER.
I know they've had a problem with the fire but still.....

Also I've never known them to provide a loan car but they will come and pick it up and return it.

Hey Paul,

Which Nav Sat are you having fitted.
I had the Becker On-Line Pro fitted and found it exellent.(Nav, Phone, MP3 all in one box). Although i'm not so sure the Nav Sat aerial looks that good.
Wentworth Car Audio fitted it. Very Proffessional.

have fun on Saturday
sorry I can't be there.

Nick

In order to make the clutch last as long as possible with an F1 box, if you're in heavy traffic and you come to a stop or at a red light, you need to tap both paddles at once to put it in neutral. Otherwise, the car just sits there in 1st, putting unneccessary load on the clutch. It's a pain to begin with, but very quickly becomes habitual.

You don't *have* to do it, but you'll go through clutches quicker if you don't.

The only reason I'm getting concerned is I didn't buy the car new, I bought it at 3,500 miles. Did the last owner use neutral? Who knows. If not, it can't be that far from needing a replacement.

Rather stupidly, I didn't ask Ferrari to take a look at the clutch during the service they did when I bought the car, so I don't know what it's like.

I'm not so much worried about the cost or hassle of replacing it - I'm more concerned about being stranded.

Cheers
Paul

hi joe
sorry to hear abt yr ongoing nightmare with maranello
personally i think their sheer size of operation goes against them .. i understand they have severe staff problems as all well trained engineers either start off on their own or join the specialist dealers... but thats no excuse for their lack of commitment

i think someone has mentioned hr owen in this thread.. in my personal experience i have allways got a less competitive quote from them than maranellos... sometime off by almost 30%

got my car out of storage in the midlands this week and had the pleasure of taking her up to graypauls in loughborough...small outfit but fantastic operation... i know its far out but me thinks our cars are worth it

on a personal note i would stay away from specialist dealers like joe macari etc baaaaad real baaad value in long run

looking forward to meeting sat

and dont take this lying down..........

I am in the process of finalizing my order for Jan. 2004 build Spider. One of my reasons for getting a new one is to have a F1 transmission.

What are you two talking about regarding saving the clutch and having to put it into N at stop lights? The only think negative I have read about the F1 is early versions did not shift smoothly but were corrected. Is there something I am missing?

Paul,

Let me know about Sat nav i fancy that, ive been told that FI clutch is fine as long as you knock in to N at lights and traffic.

Its a pain but it saves the Clutch.

See you when the suns shinning ..

Heya Joe

Couldn't remember you coming in? Extraordinary!
No mention of a courtesy car?? Demand one!!

Yeah, 242k between us (they're expensive toys aren't they?).

I must say it's been completely trouble free so far, which makes me think something's gonna break hideously any day now. I have this phobia of the clutch going (just coming up to 5k miles), to the point I cringe whenever I'm coming up to a red light. Kind of takes some of the fun out of driving it I must say. This fear isn't based on sound knowledge, just things I've heard about F1 clutches. If anyone can set me at rest, please do!

I guess this is why I'm sensitive to hearing about dealers (especially Maranello) not being up to scratch.

I can't make it on Saturday :-(

Don't get my car from Thames Car Audio (Satnav going in) until about 9.30, then I've gotta take the wife to pick up her new car, which she's very excited about, need to sort out her insurance etc..

I'm bummed about it - Winter's coming in quick, not many good caning days left!

If you want customer service you have to buy a BMW or Merc.. Ferrari sucks! Always has always will because they have more buyers than they can sell to. Have you ever openned the inside of a Ferrari? Only they could get away with such poor workmanship.

Joe based on some of the post I believe you are being a little passive in this matter. A fairly new car under warranty and you cannot get the attention of your Ferrari dealer?

I would not rest until I had an appropriate response. Also, I would demand a loaner car in light of all your difficulties.

I am certain Ferrari would find what happened to you offensive and unacceptable. However for them to correct it they need to know. It is time for action.

I may even look at purchasing an Lambo Gallardo as my next car in Feb - March next year.

Hey Paul

Just between our cars theve had 242k from us ?????????? MMMM hope you have many trouble free miles.

Joe - can't believe you've still got those battery problems!?!

I'm not taking any of that welcome to the world of Ferrari ownership bo**ocks either. This is not acceptable from any dealership, regardless of manufacturer.

As someone who only 2 weeks ago went about a hundred miles out of my area with my hard earned 125k to the "horses mouth" instead of more local dealers to pick up my 360 - this is NOT amusing and VERY WORRYING!

Do let us all know how this turns out and sorry man :-(

Shame on you Maranello.

sorry, but i don't think ferrari ownership should equate to crap customer service.maranello are supposed to be the premier dealership in the u.k.[indeed ,the world if you believe their marketing] and it shouldn't matter whether you've spent 20 k or 200 k on one of their cars. they should get their act together as this site is read by the majority of f-car owners in the world.not a good advert.....
joe , you should contact jeremy clarkson and get him on the case

Some of you may remember my post regarding Flat Battery on 360 Spider, Many thanks to all who helped with rectifications and probabilities,Well its still flat, and ive heard nothing from Ferrari UK service, NOT a Letter or a CALL to say WHEN or WHERE we can fix your CAR.

You would think after parting with 117k they would at least give you a basic service expected from FERRARI .

Im furious that its left to me to call other approved dealers in the UK to ask PLEASE FIX MY CAR.

If i was to traet my clients in this way .....well, i just wouldnt have any!!!!.....

HAS ANYBODY ELSE IN THE UK A SIMILAR STORY TO TELL.

IF it wasnt for my trusty Battery charger i would be going nowhere
