When I was looking for my first car many years ago I got my dad to take me to look at a 1965 gt 350 number 50. It was for sale for $1,600. My dad and I went for a test drive---what a rush. My dad being an old hot rodder with many tickets as a kid suggested that I look for something a little tamer. I passed on this car although I would love to have it today.

No, the scat pack was an option on a dodge in 71 only and Rapid transit a slogan. Forgive me but I cant even remeber the 4th car in the group myself so Im going to look through a magazine at home. The 3 were a cuda, duster, runner and one other but I think they had special names too.
I have one more chryco question that I have the answer to at this very moment.
The replacement for the hemi in 72 was close to production and scrapped last minute with a handful of running examples which d!ck landy now owns. It was sortof a hemi, what did they call it? It resembled a 454 chev with a single 4 barrel. Sorry I dont have any Ferrari questions.

Oops. Thought you were asking where the 350 ENGINE got its designation...

Oh Oh, let me guess...

a Hemi Cuda, built as a replica of Don Prudhomme's champion drag race car, a 440 Cuda, a Road Runner and a 340 Duster.

Did I win?

Hmm. Roadrunner, GTX, Cuda, Duster and Sport Fury? "Rapid Transit System"? Nope, that's five cars and '70. How 'bout the "Scat Pack"? Challenger, Charger R/T, Charger Super Bee and Demon.

Paul, if I can chime in with a guess. Could it have been the Barracuda, Challenger, Pacer and Roadrunner?

I have one for you Ed. In 1971 ( Im sure you remember that far back), chrysler had a collection of 4 very special cars that they used for hype to sell the production cars. They travelled with these 4 cars calling it a caravan. What were the 4 cars they used?

The GT500 was taken at random to signify that it had the BIG BLOCK versus the small block in the GT350. Incidently the GT500KR stood for "King of the Road". The GT350H was the model that was built for the Hertz rental car fleet.

Wow...can't believe I actually guessed that one correctly! Feeling pretty lucky now -- think I'll try the lottery on the way home!

We have a winner! Congratulations, Eric is the Car Guy of the Week! During a brainstorming session at Carroll Shelbys home the Key players were trying to decide on a name for their new creation. After much debate Mr.Shelby ended it all by asking one of his workers how far it was out to the shop from his house. "Oh about 350 feet" was his reply, and Carroll said "There you go, That's it".

It was the distance of the first race it won?

I heard something about that on a Speedvision classic car show (can't remember the guy's name right now) -- but he stated that it had something to do with the distance from the garage to the track, or something wacky like that (?) ...but I'm really going out on a limb here

The Shelby Mustang GT 350 did not have a 350 engine. Where did the 350 designation come from?
