There is a relatively easy way to restore the sticky plastic bits. I've just finished restoring the door handles, center console and clock/fuel/oil temp gauge cluster of my '92 512TR. I removed each of the pieces then scraped most of the goo off. I used steel wool under running water to get the rest. Nest, I sanded the surface with 240 grit sandpaper. The finishing touch is 4-6 coats of a great product called Plasti-Dip which you can pick up at any hardware store. The end result is better than new. BTW, I don't think the degradation is the result of silicone-based treatments. That may accelerate the process but I think the original material is flawed. I found the same stickiness on areas of the pieces that could never be reached by a surface treatment (i.e. the back of the pieces). - Will |

Maybe they should have sourced these panels and pieces from Audi, as Lamborghini (Gallardo) does; and then possibly the build quality would be commensurate with the "heritage". |

Guess I'm lucky these none of these problem with the panel itself other than this sticky type of film on it. It is almost like someone spilled soda on it. I sure would like to know how to clean it properly. Any cleaners that have been used to success? thanks Pete |

Paul, I also have the control problem as seen in the picture. I would be interested in anything you can find out. Mike |

We are looking into possibly doing something to overcome the problem on the 355 A/C panel. Will keep every posted on the progress I have attached a couple of pictures to show the problem! Paul

the interior melts because people put silicone based cleaners on the parts with the silicone rubber based finish (would you clean your paint down with paint thinners?), rub em back, strip them and paint or go carbon / alloy |

Wow, I feel blessed. My 1998 355 Spider does not have any of that. I am anal about leaving out in the sun though. Some people laugh at me, but hey it is still in show room condition. |

my interior parts are perfect, but how do I avoid these problems? stay away from any particular cleaners, etc.? (97 355) |

does the finish under the goo match after you take the top layer off? And what is best for taking it off? |

one thing that also pisses me off about the 355 interior is that the leather on the airbag shrinks and it starts coming up at the top. |

Actually, what you call goo is soft touch varnish, a clear coat which is sprayed to give a silky matte look and feel. In mine it's peelling of on window switches, I've seen many 550's with the same problem. The center console is still ok, although a few bubbles appeared under what seems to be an adhesive foil covering the console around the AC controls. It's a shame, I agree ... |

Almost every 355 I see, the AC control is warping. Kinda sad. :-( |

if you buy new stuff it will onl;y be melting again. Use the work it takes to remove the crap and be done with it. The AC control unit is probably also warping and there is no fix for that except a new one $ 800.

You can buy a new ashtray cover for around $100. Check some of the sponsors sites. |

welcome to ferrari that goo is ion all of the plastic components on the interior. what most of us did was use goo be gone or wd40 and alot of work and removed it the parts r black underneath the goo , this is a very poor design on ferraris part don't bother to buy replacements for one they r very expensive and for another they will have the same plastic coating over them good luck take your time and be patient it makes a hell of a mess but they should turn out fine when u r done. |

Is there any way to fix (on my own) the black consoil from melting? My ash tray area is like tar. If one touches it, then your finger prints are embeded in it. It is super soft. |
