Agreed. I find it particularly useful to go back to older models and do such side-by-sides... you can often strongly see the common lines. But sometimes its hard to find a consistent set of pictures of the older cars (like the 375MM) from a variety of angles, to match up with the new cars. Here's one I did comparing the lines of the F50 with the lines of the 360. I consider the F50 one of the most beautiful Ferraris, but a bit extreme for daily driving. The 360 I find to be a perfect compromise, preserving much of the lines and beauty of the F50, in a bit tamer package. But the commonality between the two is unmistakable when you put them side-by-side:

I am looking at changes from 456 to 612. I find it helpful to look at the entire new family, and than also compare to how older families have changed shape in the past. 612 does look like a nice improvement over the 456
