Thanks for the information on the shims. This is the alignment report on the '89 Mondial t. Generally tif is sharper, but everyone cannot read tif. So here it is in pdf: In the past, this alignment shop has been the best. Not for sure about the present. They claim that since Ferrari does not set the recommended toe to 0; Ferrari is trading tire wear for better performance. That tires on Ferraris will never wear evenly. Is this true? They claim that they could not adjust the rears. However, I notice that the readings on the rear changed while the Ferrari was at their shop. Am I misinterputing this? It seams that the right rear is the problem area. Could this tire have hit something hard in the past? I notice that the total thrust angle is off a little. What does this mean and why could they not get it in the Specified Range? Thanks for the information.

On a 89 Mondial t, I believe in preventative maintenance plus the front tires seemed to be wearing a little on the outside. I considered going to a discount alignment shop. The alignment specs are in the Ferrari Technical/Owners Manual. However, years ago I had another custom 4x4 Ford van (no full size van comes from the factor 4x4). Sears aligned it for several years. Then they upgraded their equipment, said that the van was not in their manuals, and they would no longer do the alignment. So I asked around and a one person shop in Salt Lake City was recommended. Went there, they charged me $130, and did a bad job. Was not worth going to court over $130. Others recommended Alignment Specialists off 21 South in SLC. Took the van to them and they did an outstanding job. Only charged $50. So I called them, they said a 4 wheel thrust alignment on the Mondial t would only cost $64. I made an appointment with them for this afternoon. I took copies of the pages from the Ferrari Tech Manual. They said that the Mondial was in their spec books. They said that my Mondial was close to specs. However, the alignment specs were set up for handling, not tire wear. They said that any Ferrari set to specs would wear the outside of the tires - this was one of the prices of outstanding handling. Also, although the Ferrari Tech Manual listed adjustments for the rear wheels, they could find no possible adjustments back there. They said they called the Ferrari Dealer Steve Harris Imports to verify this. They said that Steve Harris Imports said that they do not do alignments - that they send all of them out. However, according to Alignment Specialists, Steve Harris Imports said that all of the above is correct. Is this correct? Does it hold true for all Ferraris? |
