FWIW, all versions of the 360 TCU's allowed for the PIS (point of initial slippage) to be adjusted, it just became less cumbersome with the new version TCU (more sophisticated computer and software) introduced during MY '01. Cost of this TCU back in late 2002 was approximately $1000. I do believe there is yet another updated TCU (hardware and software) which has been installed on MY 2003 and newer 360's.

I was also able, with the heroic assistance of my dealer, to get this new version TCU installed under warranty in my 1999 360, but it did take quite a long time for the new parts to arrive from Italy. :-)

Vanny, I was lucky (or unlucky) to have had a crippling F1 problem in 01 when my car was under warranty. The TCU and other components were upgraded at the same time. No idea of costs but certainly more than dinneratdenny's.

While I had my '99 360 in for the 15,000 mile service the dealer upgraded the F1 software and the car now shifts quicker and smoother. He did this as standard procedure.

There have been 4 part numbers for 360 TCU's. Not ECU's, but rather TCU's.

All cars before assy #44074 take TCU #191701, and all cars after that take #193263. The cars after chassis number SHOULD NOT require a new ECU. 191701 fixed the early cars problems. (For the most part)

edit---I just typed the number in, and it looks like 191701 got updated again.

Both my dealership and the factory (during my visit 9/02) confirmed that the most important hardware change with the F1 transmission control unit was the introduction of an adjustable clutch point of slippage (POS). This new upgrade was introduced in 01 and I had my 2000 car upgraded at that time. POS is the most significant variable in the F1 set up.

I know several 360 owners who have upgraded ECUs, and they have mentioned significant improvement. Im happy with mine, so I havent done it.

Do you think there would be much improvement over the old boxes, that it would warrant voiding the warranty? And if so, would there be mechanical upgrades as well?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Ferrari will apply the new software to the old box. I vaguely recall being told this recently.

There are third parties that do have tricked-up software that you can apply, but of course, they void any warranty.

One such company is Scuderia Systems (http://www.scuderiasystems.co.uk)

Guy's,

I was wondering if you could clear somethings up about these gearboxes. I was watching one of the video's that a member posted, the one where Vicki is driving the new 360 CS. Anyways, she mentions that with the new computer technology (software) that is being used on the 360 CS, the up shifts and down shifts are very smooth and quick, especially since its designed mostly for the track. I was wondering with this new computer technology, is it possible for the owners with the early 360's (eg. 99', 00', etc.) to go over to their local dealership and have their Ferrari's "uploaded" with the new computer program. Now that this new software is available it seems that it would be very benificiary for all 360 F1 owners to take advantange of the software, so that they can get the optimum preformance from their 360 without having to dish out the cash for a Stradale. If this is at all possible, could the 355 F1 people also do the same, granted that I'm sure there would be some mechanical upgrades to accompany the new software. Thus leading also to ask the same about the other models with the F1 gearboxes.

Its just a question, but do correct me if I am wrong. I am just a kid trying to learn this stuff.

~Mike
