The 348 is a great car that I feel is very under rated.

You won't have the huge torque of a C5 vette but you will have alot of fun!

Good luck...Ciao Dino

I have an 89 ts. I have had it for 14 years...and have loved it! I have a few upgrades:

Superchips ECU chips
Serie Speciale...rear lights, front spoiler, CF seats
Tubi
5 point harness
painted roof and lower valance
Challenge 18" wheels

The car is ~250 lighter with ~30 extra hp.

My point is that 348's are great cars. Mine has been reliable, relatively cost effective...but most of all HUGE fun.

I had an 85 308 that was alot of fun. The 348 definitely moved the game on....it has more power and handles much better. Before I added the challenge wheels...the on limit handling was a bit nervous...but after adding more rubber it just sticks!

Electrically the only issues that I have had have been with the doors...and over the 14 years that I have had the car they have only been a problem twice. The 348 will be a good swap for the 308.

Have fun! Ciao Dino

As quick as I can with at least the major points covered here i go.
Drop engine, new tensioner bearings, belts, valve cover removal, valve adjustments, cam timing, oils, fluids, gaskets, orings, flush all systems, adjustments, check the following and advise (naturally this will be more dinero) clutch, flywheel, water pump, shift cables, integrity of wire, then detail and reinstall engine, reconnect and put through heat cycles. Without any extras figure $5k-$7k.

Be advised that a 30k service needs to be performed every five years or so whether or not the odometer has the miles accummulated. The 30k will not include items such as water pump, bad electrical plug connectors and or wiring. This will add to the price of the 30k work probably costing somewhere between $5k-$7k for the service and get ready for upgrades or work not listed under the 30k guidelines. My 91 was purchased with 7k miles and by the time I had the car up to snuff it was around $13k. (tires, pump, tubi, electrical harness troubleshooting and repair, shift cable, auto halon system, etc, etc.) It was worth it!

Arie,
The TB is a better car. I used to have a 94 TB. The motor is much much stronger than your 308. The shifter in mine was the worst of the 6 Fcars I owned. The ride is pretty harsh. I never liked the way it drove that much so after 15K miles I went "back" to a 328.
Try it out it's a whole different animal from your GTB. You may love it, or maybe not.

The performance will be better than your 308. Yeah the shifting is a bit notchy, but that is mostly due to the shift cables not being adjusted properly, and the gear box oil not being up to temperature. However once the temp is up the shifting is pretty good.

Arie,

If the car is under 30k miles they are probable trying to get rid of it so that they don't have to spend the money on the engine out major tune-up. If car was only 3 years old the milage wouldn't be a problem. But the car is twelve years old and no matter how few miles the car has on it, the timing belt needs to be changed. So I would make sure that the 30k major is done, or has been done, and that they have paper work showing that is was. Make sure that the clutch is in proper working order. Also check out the power windows and aircon/heater control pannel. Make sure these work properly before you take the car. They have a tendancy to go bad, especially the power windows. Alot of the cars have the "melting" parts sydrome. Basicly the coating that is put on the center console, door handles, and the steering shaft cover, at the factory goes bad. It gets the texture of wax and you can scrape it with your finger nail. In a nut shell don't just get in the car and look at it. Turn everything on and see that it works, lights, high beams, radio, door lights, dome light, cigarett lighter, you get the point, EVERYTHING. Even opening up the deck lid and front hood. Oh yeah when you are there have the mechanic disconnect and show you the door conectors, these are the connectors between the door and the body, where the door hindges are. These things can go bad. You wanna see that they do not look like they have any signs of corroding. It may seem like you are being a pain, but the more you can check before you get the car the less unwanted surprizes you will have when you get the car home. Don't just take the salesmans word for it, have proof. Good luck.
