Now I can't hold out on the public interest can I? I'm holding out to see what horror stories he spills about me and then I'll determine what bomb I'm going to drop on him. DES is one hell of a guy and we had a blast. Wait till you see the pics. Your going to die guys. |

I'm not nearly as gifted with words as DES is so I'm going to pretty much agree on everything he says (almost everything ). When he tells you all that this was a life changing thing for him and I he is as serious as can be. We can sit here all day and post pictures and tell stories but until you actually go and participate in this whole event you will have no idea what it's like. Traveling back to Pensacola for me was like coming back to the planet Earth. I felt like I had been in a place where people are allowed to just party, drive like you dream about whether it's on a racetrack or the middle of downtown. The time and effort John and Franco put into this past week to have everything run so smoothly I never saw a single flaw in any of the plans. Everything is so casual and laid back that you never feel like you need to be at a certain place at precisely a certain time. I met some of the most amazing people and did things I guarantee nobody else back here at home have done. All my friends are having trouble believing my stories even when I show them my pictures which I will try to post ASAP. However I could really care less if they believe me or not. I still can't believe I got to do and see it all and would crawl back to New Orleans to go again. DES, I got some pretty good pics of you down on Bourbon Street I got back last night...... |

Dale, great pictures...! Folks, please bear with me, i need another day or two before i start with pictures and stories... This whole event was so much more than i could have ever anticipated... i'm not even exhausted from it, i'm just still in a fog... i've been dazed since before i even got back... Part of me is still in Louisiana somewhere... i've been walking on air for the last few days... This was probably the most incredible event of my life... Some things have different effects on different people... For John & Franco, this was probably another year's event that turned out really well... For some other folks, it was probably an awesome weekend of driving fast, cool cars, meeting nice people and entering a contest in the hopes of winning an award or just seeing other really nice cars... For me, though... For me, it was a milestone... A life-altering experience... More important than any holiday or birthday or other such silly something... It was a really intense event and when i finally get to the write-up, you'll understand why... i feel truly lucky and privileged to have been able to attend this event. John, thank you so much, it was really an incredible time... If you see part of me wandering aimlessly around New Orleans, glassy eyes and a huge grin on his face, can you just stuff him in an envelope and mail him back to me...? Thanks... |

Okay, here are my last pics. Im sure that there will be more from other folks. I must say that Franco, John, Kelly, and, Im sure, countless others know how to throw a car guy party. The Ferrari Classic was almost more fun than the law allows. Imagine this starting out in the French Quarter headed onward and upward through the fog to the track following, initially, a 360 challenge car, then Roland Linders F40, and then a beautiful 550 and then it goes on and on. It was great having a state trooper escort, even though panic would hit every time you saw the blue lights in your mirror. (Roland later told a story about getting stopped on the way back for doing a buck forty. The trooper radioed his buddies and then told Roland to hurry up cause he needed to catch up with the group!) Those Louisiana guys know how to put on a track day. Francos drivers meeting went something like this: I hope everybody is here to have fun, uh, we will have a touring group and a sport group and, uh, a competition race later. Please have fun and be safe. Any questions? Yeah, what about passing? No problem. What about passing on turns? No problem. Even better this group loves to drive. None of this White Glove-Trailer Queen-Pebble Beach ring around the rosy parade laps here. No sir. Even the parade laps were, uh, spirited. Chasing Franco or John in their Ferrari cop cars was a hoot. While it was unnerving to look in your mirror and see an Enzo, a 360 Challenge car, or a $7M 250 bobbing around behind you, it sure was fun. (In fact, one of the Enzo demonstrated its SUV capabilities with a little off-the-road jaunt.) The 355/360 F1 cars loved this track. It has a series of S turns on the back section that is just perfect for video game driving. You know, right/left right/left, right/left and then a long right back to the 5th gear straight whap whap whap whap whap - yeah, just call me Never Lift! Driving the Maranello was more like square dancing than playing a video game. You know - swing your partner and dosado. I was just getting the hang of it when the water hose blew. I know that my heart works just fine cause it almost stopped when all this white stuff started blowing out the hood. (Dave Goldman later claimed that I was responsible for his agriculture experience as he followed behind me. Although, Ive heard it said that theres excuses and then theres excuses, ha!) Fortunately, it was just steam and the engine never really overheated. But it was the end of the day for my silver beast and a flat bed ride back to Houston. Dont know the damage yet (Im afraid to call...), but the FOH people were great. My thanks to Scott, Don, and Giuseppe for helping out. Plus, a huge thanks to Franco for storing the car in his garage. Was a just a coincidence that the hose decided to blow as the engine was bouncing off the rev limiter? Who knows, eh? But, again, these folks like to drive and the spirt is infectious. While there were a few other casualties (a hood came loose on a 360 and smacked the windshield and at least one 360 challenge car will need a new engine), everybody had a lot of fun, and it was a great day. Later, over dinner, the lies, uh, stories really came out. Even after applying a huge discount factor for the consumption of adult beverages, this group has a serious jones for speed. Jon and Rusty may you never lift again! For those of you who missed it. You blew it. Dont make the same mistake next year. Cars under the trees

JT, i actually don't think i took that many pictures of the two Enzos that were there, this time... i was referring to my Morristown thread, where i took well over 200 pictures, 114+ of which were Enzos... The Enzo thread was separate from everything else... i definitely will post the pictures of the Enzos i took... |

Mark, computer at home won't play them (CD rom's been busted for a long time) and i forgot to bring them to work - not that i would've had any time, today, anyway...! i'll bring them in tomorrow and check them out... i loved the envelope, very cool... i'm wondering how you did that - did you put the envelope in the printer...? Print out a copy and put the envelope in the copier...? i'm intrigued... There's no time on how late you can call me... If i'm sleeping, there's a 50/50 chance i won't hear the phone; if that's the case, just leave a message and i'll call you back... Thanks... |

Matt, i made it back okay... Getting back wasn't the hard part, LEAVING was...! i was having so much fun, i didn't want to come home...! i'm gonna try to complete at least the whole of part 1 tonight and post it tomorrow... There's far too much to tell to sum it up in one post... Even with a series of posts, i still won't cover everything... This will undoubtedly be the most talked-about event for years to come (at least, out of the events that i've been to - apparently, this event is this spectacular, EVERY YEAR!) John & Franco have the world by the balls; they literally pull out all the stops when they put an event together. |

DES, I'll let you do your version of the stories and then I'll fill in all the gaps and things about you that everyone wants to know but doesn't. I got the scoop on this kid guys. I'll try and do a write up comparing my story to his. This whole event has blown our minds to the point where I don't think words can do it justice. I just dropped off my camera for developing. This post should blow your minds!!! Glad to see you made it back ok DES. Call me at work when you get a chance.

Just a taste, folks, it's crazy here... Looks like no one did anything in the office while i was gone... Tonight, when i go home, i'll start on part 1 of my FFQC saga... i might need a dictionary or a thesaurus or even a second language, because it's going to be extremely difficult to convey, in words, just how utterly and totally awesome this experience was... i'd love to thank John Houghtaling for his ridiculously incredible Southern hospitality; it was an event i'll remember for the rest of my life... John, i'm at a loss for words to express how grateful i am that you invited me for this event... The people, the places, THE CARS...! It was all so awesome... Pictures should be up when the stories are completed... Mark PDX & Andrew Stokpro, upon return, i received your packages, thank you very much; more on that later... Mark, i lost your number... For those people who could've gone, were thinking about going, were going but then decided not to - you should've gone. Without killing the write-up, i can say these words: Monte and his 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Bread Van, Roland Linder & his Ferrari F40 LM, Ray & his yellow Enzo... Of course, the list goes on, including Dan & his red Enzo, but those three are special, for a reason. It was a pleasure meeting everyone; Dave Goldman, Wade Nunez, John Suarez, Mr. Saia & Son, Franco & Giorgio Valobra, Guiseppe Risi, Dan Heard, Ray Merengues, Mr. Conrad, Mr. & Mrs. Karr, Monte Shalett, Roland Linder, Ryan Alexander, The Wildcats, Paul Wehmer, Dana with the gorgeous 512 BBi, etc... It was awesome to finally meet Kelly Vince after speaking with him on the phone; Kelly, thank you so much for everything, i really appreciate it... It was especially a pleasure finally meeting John Houghtaling who was instrumental in making this whole event one that i'll never forget. Thank you, John. More later, sorry if i forgot someone or something, it's nuts here... Rob, you specifically told me to take lots of pictures - i'll need to sift through the 400+ shots i took and post the best ones... i promise i won't post another 114-picture Enzo thread and that i'll break things up more moderately this time... i'll be back...! |
