VZ - I probably rec'd a copy but with 3 kids , a wife and multiple businesses etc I can't find it. I will say that I am a financial advisor and if someone asks for a prospectus (similar to asking for a polcy) I don't send them to an 800 number, I deliver or get one of my staff members to deliver ASAP.

At any rate - I am covered, reasonable rates, and now have to worry about more things like my 17 yr old daughter and 15 yr old son driving down I-75/85 in Atlanta(the next L.A.)

Richard, why do you need the insurance agent to show you a copy of your policy? Didn't you get a copy when you signed up? I always get one in the mail from St. Farm, and i suppose if i wanna dig thru the fine print, it's all there in writing.

I own a 1998 F355 GTS and had a hard time finding insurance. My wife has plenty tickets! Leland quoted me but Progressive had a better price and allowed me to exclude her from the policy! Like I'd let her drive my true love!!

Good Luck

General Motors is taking a bath...is their CEO moving to a trailer park in Florida? Just as Saks and K-Mart sell different merchandise, different insurance companies are able to underwrite different risks. Shop around. Ernie, if it wasn't mandatory, more than just illegal aliens would drive with no insurance.

Insurance companies are full of crap. All they wanna do is collect, collect, collect and pay out as little as they can. If they had it their way they wouldn't even pay out anything. However you do have to have it, especially here in California, were illegal's now can get a valid drivers license. A friend of a friend was driving his Diablo (I know not a Ferrari) and got rearended by non other than an illegal with NO INSURANCE. I am sooooooooooo glad that idiot Davis got booted out of office. However, I think that if the law says you must have insurance, you should be able to deduct it from your income taxes.

Insurance companies can whine and bellyache all they want to about how BAD the business is, and about how much RISK they are taking. But ask them to show you a photograph of their CEO's house or the houses of the members of their Board of Directors and then compare it to your house. Now tell me who has it so bad.
Oh please Mister Insurance Man, cry me a river.

Heh. Gotta love the insurance industry -- try asking about physical damage coverage for an exotic rental car company. I never thought I'd hear so many underwriters actually LAUGH at me, to my face. So much for an industry that claims it takes risks. (Luckily, persistence pays off...)

Richard,
Progressive is not very good at reimbursing claims so be very careful who you choose.Hopefully you'll never have one but should you need one,you want a Company that stands behind you.

It's funny my insurance co. USAA is referring my 550 purchase to underwriters for approval.
In the past they were almost to cavalier about coverage. For example I called them in 1987 with a 288 GTO I had just purhsed for 205k. They said no problem you are covered. Now they will get back to me in a day or two to confirm or deny coverage (no losses in the interim just change of policy)

fanatic1 - be careful - the alternative is like the idiocy we have here in MA where the state has regulated everything such that pricing is effectively fixed, and many of the good insurers have simply decided not to do business in the state. clearly astuteinv has options and was able to exercise those options. that's great! don't know how things are in OH, but be careful what you wish for ;-)

Joel, of course insurance is necessary, it's just that if it is a LAW that we have to buy their product, then they shouldn't be allowed not to sell it to us.....also, they shouldn't be allowed to charge any amount of money based solely at their discretion......It's disgusting.

Amigos...there are certain activities that expose you to tremendous financial liability. Like driving. I wouldn't leave my driveway without insurance. Secondly, insurance companies actually pay out more money than they take in...the difference being made up by investments. If the companies had to break even, let alone turn a profit, on just the underwriting premiums, you'd pay even more. Whether a particular agent is good or bad is another story. I use collector car insurance...cheap and no deductible.

Richard,

Check with a Chubb agent. They definitely cover Ferraris for less than Progressive and cover a lot of them. www.chubb.com They have great multi-car discounts and if they carry your house along with your cars it gets even better. Check them out.

I got Progressive to write just the 355 under an "exclusion policy." Pretty good rate too. They could not do the exclusion policy and insure the other three on one policy and you can't have two policies.

Thank goodness. I have been driving for two weeks with no coverage without knowing it!

BTW my classic Fcars (Dino, Boxer) were a lot cheaper in the collector car insurance market but they don't insure the newer models.

Good tip AMIR. My 17 year old daughter would never drive it anyway.

Thanks for all your comments. Another save by fellow F-chatters!

Great story Jack - reminds me of my Uncle who is in real estate - he met with the headmaster of his old school, who he to say the least never saw eye to eye with, to finalise the sale of the school premises. Revenge.

I would find a company to insure the 355, and tell them you'll bring your other 3 policies with, for the proper rates. Then, politely call Safeco and tell them to get f**ked.

Insurance story: My brother-in-law is a sports marketing honcho, and had used Allstate homeowners due to their business relationship. A few years ago their house suffered some damage (not an act of god), and Allstate balked on paying. He went to the top, but was unable to get anywhere. "Sorry, there's nothing I can do." was the response. 6 months later, when companies were bidding for title sponsorship of a major tennis tournament, his rare shot at revenge was there. Allstate was the returning sponsor, really wanted the tourney, and assumed they would get it. My bro-in-law personally called the president and informed him they wouldn't be awarded the event, and why. "Sorry, there's nothing I can do."

Can't you get a separate policy for the 355 from one of the classic car insurers? Try one of them.

Insurance industry is a legalized scam.

Can you remove one of your other cars from your policy, insure it with a new company, and then put your Ferrari as a second car on the new policy?

Richard, see if they will cover the 355 and write and "exclusion policy" saying that no one else can drive the car...namely your 17 year old daughter.......hopefully that will work. I HATE INSURANCE COMPANIES.....nothing more than legalized "racketeering".......and what's the deal that the LAW SAYS WE HAVE TO BUY YOUR PRODUCT, IF WE DON'T BUY YOUR PRODUCT WE CAN BE ARRESTED....OH BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO SELL US THE PRODUCT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO.........WTF!!!!

Good Luck!

if varies from state to state but most allow limited number of refusals for no reason, time to find a new company, I doubt the commiss can do anything

My complaint to the Georgia Insurance Commissioner's office:

My agent informed me that Safeco, who I have had insurance with for over 10 years, will not cover my fourth car I just purchased, a 1995 Ferrari 355 at any rate. The agent also refused to provide me a copy of my policy to show me where they could deny me coverage on a purchased vehicle inside a policy period. My policy renews January 16th and every 6 mos. Can they deny me coverage on a purchased vehicle inside the policy period because the Ferrari on on their "prohibited list?"

Any body else had this problem? I have obtained a quote from Progressive for all 4 cars $6400 yr!! I guess having a 17 year old daugher that had a wreck does not help!!
