I was originally refering to the early series TR. but after hearing the favorable comments on the 512TR I've included it in my consideration. Some of the articles presented in your responses point to substantial improvements made in the 512. some |

nb: jkeeton has still not clarified whether he was talking about a 512TR or a Testarossa. what would y'all say if he was talking about a Testarossa -vs- 550? a yellow 512TR is definitely on my list for someday. my mechanic says it's his favorite modern f-car, but non-trivial to maintain. doody. |

94 512 TR hands down, I love that car. It is just so sexy, I am not sure if it is because I grew up watching Miami Vice, or what, but that car in traffic is a stopper. Now the 550 is a great car, and one nice thing about the car is it does not draw too much of a crowd. |

If your decision is entirely based on the percentage of your purchase price that you will get back when you sell, my answer is TR. If you want a car that's fun to drive and easy to live with, I'd suggest the Maranello. |

1988 1/2 Testarossa or 512TR or M512TR would be my choice. |

5-lug Testarossa. The prices on the 512TRs and the 550s are still falling. Those of the Testarossa are at rock bottom, for now........clearly, the BEST deal!!!!!!!! |

I, for one, hope 550 prices plummets to below 1985 Testarossa levels (not likely, huh?) so that I can pick one a nice 6M blk/blk example! I love the idea of a classic front V12, rear drive layout, but there's no way I can muster the funds for a 365GTB/4. |

The 550 is very nice but its just too sedate for me, Maybe i'll get one when I'm 50 & I have to look respectable LOL I prefer the "Italian Sex Machine" looks of the 512TR |

Jerry: The first series TR will not perform anywhere near the same level as the 550. A 512TR is another matter and I would strongly suggest you look for a good example of that model. The 550 is a hell of a car but in terms of visceral qualities I think the 512 beats it hands down. Also, the flat 12 engine is directly derived from their 312 F1 design and is a work of art. I love my 550 but if I had to have one car the 512 is the only way to fly IMHO. |

Personally, I don't think the 550 is a better investment. The TR, without regard to the number built (over 1 million Mustangs sold) still holds the distinction of being the fastest production car on the planet for 11 years straight, a distinction that I doubt any other car (Enzo or otherwise) will ever hold again. That, IMHO, makes it a car of distinction, not to mention the bold looks that were never copied. Also, the TR is a lot more fun to drive. |

are you using "TR" to connote a "Testarossa" or a "512TR"? the factory built 7,177 Testarossas and and 2,280 512TRs. they apparently built 3,715 550 maranellos (this does not include the barchetta or 575s). if you're going to keep it "forever" then "long term investment" and resale are rather moot, are they not? i believe (fwiw) that the 512TR will do relatively well over time, value-wise. i also believe (though probably i'm in the minority) that 550 values will do very well over time. in theory maintenance should be easier on the 550, though most service estimates don't, IME, show any substantial price benefit for an engine-in -vs- engine-out major (for example). so YMMV. doody. |

I've taken in to consideration the difference in cost but I'm wondering if in the long run the 550, overall, would be the better investment. How does it compare to the TR in performace, maintenance and long term investment? The F- car I choose will probably be kept forever in that I sell very few of my cars. Any input is appreciated. |
