Jack,
maybe the installation was not done by a stongard pro. You can not see mine unless you actually look for it. I can not believe that you can see it on any car color. The only way to see it if it was waxed by some nut case and has waxing lines at the seam.

The SLKindeed is a piece of crap! HAd the same problem with ours. The best part was that the guy at MB said: "the is normal, nothing to be alarmed". That day I sold my MB shares!
Then we traded for the more "advanced" CLK, and things did NOT get better!

Martin, I haven't seen it on a red car, I have to admit. The blue one I saw, it showed up too much. The line was pretty visible, but perhaps that was due to the almost metallic-like paint.

I too had an SLK230 and it was OK except for back-numbing seats. However, except for the one-trick retractable top, it left me kind of cold. Had it for exactly 12 months and disposed of it for my 348.

BTW, the latest issue of Consumer Reports (06/02) gives the SLK230 a "recommended" rating, the only car out the five cars they tested (the others were Corvette conv., Boxster 2.7, Audi TT Quattro conv., and the new T-bird).

Dave,

Personally I think the SLK230 is a piece of !!! It has been towed 3 times since I bought it new. Would like to get rid of it, but its on a lease with a year left. It will cost me as much to get rid of it as the amount of the payments are for the next year.

I however do love the 348 spi i just got!

Ray, the first time you put it on it does take a few minutes. After a few on/offs you can do the job alone in less than five minutes.

Chris,

Sorry to digress but what do you think of your SLK230. Had mine from new (waited 3 yrs for it on order!) and one of the most dissapointing cars I've ever owned or even driven. Probably put me off MB for life. Recirculating ball steering was probably most to blame for its complete lack of feel. But it was also VERY cheap and plastic in build.

Jack,
don't know why you do not like the Stongard? You can not see it. What is not to like?

Congrats on your new baby and welcome to the 348 family.

Congratulations, Chris. I'm about 2 weeks ahead of you, and that was one of my first posts after driving it, as well. The general consensus was to accept the occasional chip as something that will happen. Obviously avoid roads with lots of loose debris, and get some touch up paint. Better to enjoy your car and suffer the odd, minor blemish than to worry too much about it. Eventually you can get it repainted. Some guys suggested things like the lingerie or StoneGuard, but I didn't really like the looks of either too much. Have fun, and get some pics posted!

Frank is it hard to install the SpeedLingerie. I have heard you need two people to install it because it is such a tight fit.. How hard is it to take-off??

I have a SpeedLingerie bra on my 1994 348 Spider.(www.speedlingerie.com) It works great and is the same color as the car. Look at the photo in my profile that has a photo of my car with the bra on. The 348 Spider is a great car. I have put over 6000 miles on mine in 16 months with no problems. Enjoy.

Drove the car over 300 miles since I got it on the road friday. What an awsome car!!! There is nothing like a ferrari.

One question I have----

How do you keep the rock chips down to a minimum without the plastic shield? I noticed a few new chips from the driving I did this weekend?

Any tricks.... ?? Stay far away from cars in front of you??

Also I want to thank everyone for their Help on making my decision on what car I wanted.
