jack thats just wrong (grins)

also joe, I would get a tattoo to show my devotion and appreciation to "a ferrari, the makers of the finest automobiles in the industry" - Ferrari Sales Rep in Scent of a woman.

My way of showing devotion would to get a tattoo. A tattoo stays with u for life just like ferrari's do. Thats how I look at it :-)

Pretty sure Schummi's tattoo is a temp. Thought I read somewhere he and his wife did that for kicks. He heard a real one hurts, and takes a while, so he sent Rubens to get it for him...

I have a nice Ferrari shield tattoo on my upper arm compliments of Ben from our go cart races yesterday. It's a day old and looks great. I even put one on my four year old because he wanted to "be on the same team". Its good to know it will be gone in a few days.

Andrew: Just saw your bio and it says grad school, but didn't indicate for what. The one caveat to the tattoo recommendation then is that you should get it in a location where it is not visible if wearing a short sleeve t-shirt and shorts. Because while its easy to say screw'm its my body, simple fact is that someone who doesn't like tattos might be your employer in the future. And yes, it could impact your employment.

I view tatoos and piercings etc. as a form of self-mutilation. You were born with x number of holes in your body & no graphics other than maybe a birthmark or two. Why the need to increase the hole count? And another thing/subject...why would anyone want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane???? You're better off taking a drive & fugeddabouddit.

Gee, I did not know that I was not allowed to have an opinion but I do, and I have no fear. If I was doing something that I thought was Ok but others thought it was bad then I would weigh in their thoughts before I made my final decision. I am not always right and seeing others mistakes and opinions helps make more informed decisions.

hey boys easy with the "tattoos are the most replusive thing". i'm trying to make a living here. there are a few things that could be said about lawyers, doctors or computer geeks too.if someone identfies with a certain product or group enough to want to put it on their person god bless them. i,m not here to judge them and no one else should. self expression always scares the timid. lighten up and go for a drive.

I'm not going to offer my opinion on getting a tattoo or not, but I did want to say something. Who cares if the "whine and cheese" crowd likes it, or if it doesn't fit with the "Ferrari" crowd? Be YOU, screw the crowds of followers. But don't forget that you will eventually be much older, much more tame, and probably with children that it may embarrass. If you think you will show it proudly at 80 and say "that is who I was at 20" then get it, if you are the type to cover it up in shame when its become trashy looking, maybe you should rethink it. But do not let some "crowd" make up your mind for you. Not getting a tattoo because people think its not cool is no different than getting one because people think it is its the same mentality. Don't think about that, what you need to decide is if you want a permanent marking on your body. You should also keep in mind that if you dont keep touching up the tattoo every few years it will become faded and look very bad (even if you like it). You should probably do some research and find out more about it. I dont know if a tattoo is right for you I only know it is not right for me, and not because of any crowd.

I've never liked tatoos and never even thought to get one. When I have been part of conversations regarding people getting them, I always put in my .02 cents.
"Imagine your father with 'thug life' across his belly or tribal symbols between his shoulder blades and around his calf. Imagine your mother with a barbed wire around her bicep or a huge sunflower surrounding her bellybutton....."Would be kind of strange. Buy a watch with a Ferrari logo.

I personally think Tatoos and especially body piercing is the most repulsive thing a human can do to him/her self. I cannot think of one thing worse, and I can think of a lot of repulsive things.

Agree that tats are a bit commonplace at this point and could well become the mullett of the future.

That said, if it floats your boat, er, barchetta (sorry, Enzo!), have at it. Plus, it might serve well as an ice breaker at the wine and cheese party.

I would stay away from Tattoos if I were you. While they may be fad now, they will be thrashy again in the future. Tattoos are associated with the beer swilling Nascar crowd, not the wine and cheese Ferrari one.

In the back of airline magazines, there are those places that will make you temporary tatoos. Just order up 1000 of them and after 3 years you can decide if you really want one permanent. Hey, you can even try it in different areas to see where you like it best.

I'm young and there are a number of people with tatoos, mostly tough guys of course around campus. I for one have no desire to get one, but to each his own. I don't think I would get a corporate logo if I ever did. Do you guys really love Ferrari that much? I love the cars don't get me wrong, they are a huge part of my life at this point, but I wouldn't want to be a moving billboard for them.

I agree with Charles. Tatoos are a fad. If you are twenty now, will you still want that tatoo in 2032 when you are 50? Not many fads last that long. The last time tatoos were popular, during WWII, every serviceman got one, and by the Sixties they were all wearing long sleeve shirts in 100 degree weather to hide them.

This thread makes me think about the huge tattoo of the "General Lee" from 'The Dukes of Hazard' that I have on my back. I just never dreamed it wouldn't be cool. I also get a lot of grief from people about the ABBA tattoo I have on the back my neck.

My wife got a small prancing horse on her shoulder. God only knows why. I throught it was an awful lapse in judgment. I was pissed at her for weeks (bad example for my 8 and 10 year old children). From greater than 5 feet away it looks like a black spot. I actually asked her to get it removed (no luck though). I'm just thankful she can cover it. Save your money and buy a prancing horse lapel pin - it actually looks better and you can take it off whenever you want!

Getting a Tattoo on back will be the most painful things you do. Think about this, you must keep it covered in vitamin b gel (or a couple of weeks depending on the size)from drying out. If it dries out, its will itch & bug the hell out of you. Will later need more touch ups on the areas that have lighter colors or have white spots. If you get one, go for the arm or ankle. Do some tat research if you never had one & best of luck to you.

Andrew,

Some years ago, I wanted the prancing horse as well. I don't call it planning but, I waited and waited until March 2001. My wife got sick of me talking about it and told me to get it and not to come home without it! I did. I have a 2" prancing horse with the SF appropriately placed below it. It is below my knee on the side of my right leg. I like it and don't ever feel like I'm some freak. Hell, even my mother liked it!
My advice, make damn sure you want it and don't get your wife sick enough of hearing you talk about it that she says, "don't come home w/out it.." I think they can be placed and done with some class. Good luck, Dane

well i guess as the voice of experience here i should give the standard speech on corp tats. if it means enough to you that you work you ass off to afford the product and associate your lifestyle with it get the ink. best place for the cav i think is the outer forearm just below the elbow. there you can roll your fingers and the muscles will make the horse move. please go to a established studio there are many good ones but there are too many bad ones so don't be afraid to spend alot of money for something that will be with you FOREVER, the artist may be paying for an 85 mondial...

PLease let me know how your trip goes, and please try the "the trailer park" the guy who runs it is very funny. it is an experience. The food is about the best I have had anywhere.

Have fun, becareful of the tattoos! Chris

Thanks Chris, I'll check out those places. Cancun was fun, but I never felt like I left the States. Too overdeveloped. I guess that's hard to get away from though. We looked into some of the villas, and even some of the 10-bedroom homes for us and friends. Pretty tempting.

Jack, I have stayed at the Westin a few years ago, very nice.

Pay the money and get a Villa. very nice and private ( you will want that!)

This last time we stayed at the Hilton, it is a brand new Hotel only open a few weeks. very very nice.

We had a suite on the sixth floor, excellent, they really wanted to please you. The Hilton has a great pool and beach. The Westin is on the water, but no usable beach.

The BEST reataurant in Cabo is called "the trailer park" you will not find it on your own.

Ask your cabbie to take you there, DO NOT GO AND NOT EAT THERE! it is fun and excellent food.

You need to do the 4 wheelers on the sand dunes, too much fun..

Best party places: El Squid Row and the Giggling Marlan.

I was there 5 years ago and prices are way up, be prepared to pay $60.00 for breakfast for 2, dinner is twice that plus drinks.

But I love Cabo, but I also love Cancun. They are very different places..

Congratulations, have fun! Chris

I must first say that I still get confused what comes first, the trailer or the tattoo?

(OK that was a joke, and not directed towards anyone)

At F1 Indy 2 years ago, a guy was there with a Cavallino tattooed from his neck down to his waist. If you remember how cold race day was, you know how dedicated he was to keep his shirt off all day!

I must admit I thought that was cool, it was perfect.

I went to Cabo a few weeks ago and my kids had me get a temporary tattoo that this mexican draws on your arm, he used my ferrari shirt cavallino as a pattern.

Well it looked pretty cool... for a while.

Then I had an allergic reaction to the paint, it blistered and now I have perfect Cavallino scar on my arm!

well I could have it tattooed, but wait, do I get the trailer now or later....???

Chris

(PS go ahead and get it, why not!)

The ironic thing about tattoos is how cliched they have become. Along with body piercings they have become so commonplace that you're almost being more expressive by NOT getting one!

I don't think the horse by itself is that corporate and would be cool(thought about it myself). Get a factory authorized sticker of the shield(which has the horse) and take it to the tat shop. They have special copiers which will put the design on a transfer, they put the transfer on you and trace the lines. Then the artist's skill really comes in for filling, shadowing, etc. Yes, they hurt, but nearly as bad as everyone says.

But for god sakes get it in a real location. Girls get their first tattoos on their lower backs of butterflies, flowers and cosmic stuff. Guy's get them on their lower back only when they've run out of room elsewhere. Upper back would be cool, though.

And, be sure to post a pic when its done.

As a former Triumph owner during the "Good old days" in the 60s, I can attest to his problem. The old Triumphs were like the 80s Ferraris. They required constant attention and were a pain in the butt to keep running properly, but when they did, they were the baddest thing on wheels. And just about the time you were ready to can the things you would fall in love with it all over again. Sort of a Mechanical Co-Dependence.

OK, here comes my favorite tattoo story...

About 25 years ago, I was doing a cable-TV project at an apartment complex and as a result I got to know some of the residents. There was one guy who could only talk about Triumph motorcycles - he didn't own one and he hadn't ridden one, but they were "Man's Greatest Accomplishment". He decided to get a large tattoo of the Triumph logo on his forearm for everyone to see - it was about 8-9" across.

Fast forward two months - I had to go back to the complex to adjust the levels, and I see the guy putting a "For Sale" sign on a Triumph motorcycle in front - he finally bought one and decided it wasn't as great as everyone had said it was, as a matter of fact he hated it.

He probably still has that logo on his forearm.

I guess my question is, How large? I'm personally not a tattoo fan, but heaven knows there are much worse things to get permanently burned into your skin than the prancing horse. Give it some time. You may change your mind.
