I'm interested to see what kind of lap times the CART guys will run up in Canada. If I'm not mistaken they are running up in Montreal (Gilles Villeneuve) the same place F1 runs. Should be interesting to see how they compare to what the F1 boys run. |

CART cars are turbocharged, but they have pop-off valves, which limit horsepower. They are also heavier than F1 cars.

btw, an Indy car (the higher power ones, I can't remember if that is IRL or CART) would bury an F1 car in every way. They're quicker, faster, a foot wider, and run slicks. |

Indy cars used to have a purpose...it was before they could make anything (read NASCAR) go 250mph around a track. The cars are just getting too fast for the tracks. Everything is getting to the limit where they can't really go any faster. No one could drive a 300mph Indy car. When other race cars couldn't go 230mph and only Indy cars could, they were special, the top of the line. This performance meeting here between the various different race leagues is coupled with a bunch of idiots running Indy and its death is eminent. |

I really hope they dont. IRL is such crap. Its waste. Cars like that shouldnt be running on ovals only. Its like a high tech version of nascar without the hicks and fender to fender action. I mean how often do you see one of those cars involved in an accident go back on the track? Also IRL restricts the cars so much. 10,500RPM, wtf is that?! Nascar restricst the cars ALOT but at least the racing is good and exciting. IMO IRL shoud be disbanded. CART is decent though. They should stick with F1, or someone shold make a new racing series that has no rules, except for safety. That would be interesting! |

Manufacturers can apply to supply engines to the IRL. There isn't a hard limit on engine manufacturers like there is on chassis. Still it's not the place for maserati or Ferrari to go. |

Yeah like Ken says, you can only run the chevy badged engine or the infinity, and the chassis are what G-force and Dalarra? Anyway under the current series spec its not like Ferrari or any other car manufacturer could just build a car and bring it there...look at the CART guys; they cant just truck their CART cars over there and race, they have to buy IRL spec equipent so....??? As I understand it under the current specs nobody could just build a car or two and be eligible to race |

I'm confused. IRL all run one of 2 engines and one of 2 bodies. Glorified go carts at best, with amature drivers although that's slowly changing. What would Ferrari do there? |

Maserati going to "just" indy would be very costly i would think. Investing in IRL at this point isnt probably a good use of resources. I've heard that Maser isn't interested in just engine production so making the whole car would be expensive for just one race. I agree that LeMans would be probably more likely. |

There was talk once of Maserati going to Indy, but I think that's dead. Maserati will probably go to Le Mans before they go to Indy. |

i actually think you are right willis. as has been said on this site before, ferrari will not expand the current production numbers and they are always sold out in the usa anyway, and so to advance the enterprise, they will concentrate on maserati. so what better 'advertising vehicle' (pun intended) than indy. why don't you email monte and suggest that you help them out..... |

Speaking of Indy 500... does anyone know what the pace car is this year? Use to be a big deal! Now I guess no one cares (since they started doing trucks)... can you visualize a Ferrari driving behind a Ford F150 pick-up truck every time the yellow flag comes out? I use to live for the entire month of May! So sad what happened with the scab Indy 500 and the two weekend condensed schedule. Use to be the greatest race in the world...and a month long party! Now I just hope it rains. When it rained the first season of the IRL...I'll never forget a reporter saying "even God is crying over what happen to our Indy 500". |

I think it's more appropriate that they take Maserati back to Indy (They won in 1939 and 1940). |

I would love to see a Ferrari at the Indy 500. I remember reading a story that Enzo threatened to pull out of F1 and developed an Indy car for Mario Andretti to drive, but of course nothing happened with it. Maybe with F1 cutting costs, Ferrari can set aside a few bucks for an Indy effort. Wishful thinking, but I think hell would freeze over first.
