Ryan,

Not sure about the race, I don't know him, my broker friend who sold the car to him does.

I heard the race track was open last night, did you go??

There is a very good chance that my supra will be sold this week, as there is a guy from Vancouver that has made me an offer that I am finding difficult to refuse. (I will net $5400 after driving it for 3 years).

Another guy has a black supra and he should have a big single turbo installed by now, so he will give the F40 a better run than I could, and I think he will actually beat it.

If I do sell my car, I still have my 92 lx 5.0 mustang to bomb around town in until I find another car to buy.

I will keep you posted.

Marcus,

We get lots of the hockey players in our store also. They are great guys to deal with, down to earth and very personable.

I like sales, and would like to get into some sort of sales position (other than retail) as I feel it will give the best opportunity to make lots of money.

Then I will work at the clothes store on weekends so I can still get my clothes discount :-)

I think the Nutritional Product Distributing is an Herbalife Kiosk in the Mall.

James,

sold suits like you...had some good clients such as Star hockey players, CEO of Cantoni, and my favorite of all time...Alex Zanardi(one of my favorite drivers as well) a month before his crash. I was able to talk to him for about 45 minutes, probably one of the nicest guys I have ever met! Signed a Hugo Boss Catalog and sat and talked like he knew me and he was very personable! Back to Hugo, it was all new to me I never was in reatil, but I sold anywhere from 5-10K a week. This was low compared to all the others but I was new at this but was told I was good at it. I wanted to go in there and be the one who made everyone confortable and enjoy being in the store. I hate when I go in a store and salesmen/lady are rude and stuck up! That is not me...I am friendly, honest, and no bs!

Did anyone see the simpsons where marge gets a job at the nuclear plant? Lisa helped her write her resume, at first all she had was homemaker: 197?-present. Lisa then typed curator of large mammals and marge wondered why then homer walked in wearing just underwear. You really had to see it. Then when smithers was reading her resume he was like "i thought (forgot name of artist) wrote this song." Then when she was hired and taken to her office and seated in front of some large machine. She asked smithers what to do and he replied "according to your resume you invented this machine." Anyway the point of this is...wait, there really wasnt one.

Focus on the hidden markets. Many companies are literally closing their lobby entrances because of resume traffic. It is no different on the web. Your goal should be- For every network contact, Get two more contacts...No cold calls necessary. Who cuts your hair?-You think hiring authorities cut their own hair...You get my point? How about business journals for your area- What new buildings are being built? They'll need people to fill 'em up! Think outside the norm. Focus on the Hidden Markets, my friend. BTW, I don't believe in resumes...for your industry, a marketing letter is more appropriate.

Folks,

I'm having alot of success through Monster. It's been five days since I posted my resume and cover letter and I've had four head-hunters contact me. They've mentioned I'm fully qualified for a career in "efficient and expedient nutritional product manufacturing and distribution." Somebody please explain what that means.... (Ha Ha)

Marcus,

What did you do at Hugo Boss??? I am in contact with many of the sales reps from Hugo Boss Canada on a regular basis.

Brett,
You have to be carefull when putting false info on your resume. You would be surprised what can come back to haunt you in the future.
Having said that, I may fudge my overall GPA a little bit on mine :-)

You could always lie and put things like former US President, CEO of Enron, etc. Everybody lies on resumes, you should too...

James,

This may help you. I used to work for Hugo Boss in Dallas and like the guys said market your resume through your clientele. You may also want to deliver your cover letter and resume to the company in person, this helped me in the past. It puts a face with the resume and is always a good indication on how interested you are in that particular company. You may be lucky and get to talk to the actual person that is hiring for the position.

Good luck,

Thanks guys,

I have a few of my customers working on some things for me, but nothing has come through yet.

I am going to have to touch up on my networking skills, as finding a job the traditional way seems to be tough right now.

Every one of the posts below is correct. Remember the golden rule in interviewing..."Ask not what the company can do for you, ask what you can do for the company."

I've never met anyone who wouldn't hire someone who makes them money. Do whatever it takes to get your foot in the door of the best company you can find, then work like hell and plan your way to the top.

I agree with the posts below. Resumes help you get your thoughts in order and you have a piece of paper that you can give someone. But they won't generally get you an interview or a job. Remember, the best jobs are never advertised.

I agree with Mark. Use your client base from the store. I have been lucky enough to never have had to endure a formal interview. Once you get your foot in the door, work your ass off and with little luck people will beat a path to your door to hire you.

James- I never put much worry into the written word. No matter how cool you write it.. it just gets dumped in a pile with a hunderd others.
Been there done that... the writing is not where its at. Neither is your experiance... personality can get you futher.

Every job I got was because I busted in the company and cornered the hiring authority and talked him into hiring me- "I just need 3 mins of your time sir!"

Networking- contact people with phone calls, find a few companies and use the web and your research materials to find out who works there and then break through the gate-keepers. Impress the hell out of the guy that is looking for a creative, resorceful, go-getter!

James:

If I were you I would concentrate on networking with your client base. Tell them you are graduating and are looking for career advice. Chances are that if they are buying $3K suits then they must have some business connections and may be able to point you to someone who is hiring.

Most jobs are gotten by knowing someone not by mailing a resume.

Just my 2 cents. I think I'm qualified to give the advice since I've changed jobs at least 20 times over the last 20 years.

I am graduating at the end of summer from university with a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in finance, minor in computer science.

I have sent out a few cover letters/resumes for jobs that I felt I was qualified for, and did not get a response.

Would anybody be willing to send my their resume/cover letter so I can use them as an example??

I am looking to get into an analyst type position, or even a sales position.

My only workk experience is that I have 8 years of retail sales experience working at my uncles high end clothing store selling $3,000 suits to clents. During that time, I have built and maintained a strong clientele base, as well as did some promotional and marketing work.

Can you guys think of some creative phrases so I can make this job look more attractive on my resume.

Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

James Dixon
