I've given the video clips a more "permanent" home, on the FCA Alabama site. You can see them at any time by clicking

www.fca-se.org/media/fca_drive_768k.wmv
(for broadband)

www.fca-se.org/media/fca_drive_56k.wmv
(for dialup)

The copies at the TradeTutor.com site will only be there for a week or two.

I've streamlined the 6-minute video into WMV (Windows Media) format. You can download the file or play it in streaming mode via Windows Media Player. If you have a fast Internet connection (DSL or cable) you can turn up your speakers and point your browser to
www.TradeTutor.com/fca/fca_drive_768k.wmv

It's still fairly big at around 25 megabytes, but that's an improvement over the original 65 megs and the resolution is still quite good. Or if you have a slow dial up modem but still want to see it, there's a pretty wimpy low resolution version that's just over one megabyte at
www.TradeTutor.com/fca/fca_drive_56k.wmv

This was the first time I've done video editing, and it was interesting to try to take the raw pieces and put them in a logical order and to time and merge a background audio/soundtrack to match. For those that attended, I'm sure it will bring back good memories of the great morning we had! Glenn has said we'll also get his edited version which will be incorporated into the pilot of the Full Throttle TV show.

I've edited down the random video segments into a sequence that flows, and put some background to it. The resulting mpeg file is around 65 megabytes. If I can figure out where to post it, those of you with broadband connections can download it. Meanwhile, I've burned it to VCD so that the disc can be played on your computer or on your DVD player (though it won't have DVD quality), if anyone who participated would like to come by and get a copy, or those of you not local, I can mail you one.

Mike:

Burn a copy and I can swing by. The 365 is still warmed up.

I received about 18 minutes of video in MPEG format on CD in today's mail. I'll try to do some editing/mixing of it into something interesting and post it.

Of course, eventually we'll have the Full Throttle edited video from CBS.

I agree. I too wish the enamel sheilds had a magnetic back. They would look super but as you stated would probably be to heavy.

Branko, thanks. Sometimes I'm in the mood for them, sometimes not, so I'm glad I put magnetic sheet on back of the resin shields. What I wish would work is the enamel versions but with magnetic backing, but they're probably too heavy to stay on that way (and too pilferable).

Crawford (et al), I talked to Glen this morning, and he's still scripting the show, but should have first draft near completion within 3 to 4 more weeks. However, he is going to spin me off a CD with MPEG video in the next couple of days and mail it to me, and I'll take some quick excerpts of it and and post them. I've got Adobe Premier, so this will be a good excuse to learn how to use it for video editing.

Thanks, Mike. We really had a blast!

From the stills, it looks like the video will be really something. Can't wait to see it. Did Glenn give you any idea when the material will be edited?

Glenn sent me an email with a few "random frames" that he extracted from the video he took. I'll post more as I get it.

Thanks to all who supported the CBS film shoot for the Full Throttle TV pilot episode. We had 11 cars and a great time. I will make sure all the participants get the edited video when the producer makes it available to me.

Erik, thanks for the offer, but I won't be able to make it Saturday for the LeMans stuff (there is no F1 Qualifying this weekend) after the drive and lunch. See you at Friday night dinner at the Radisson.

Okay, I realized that I got the weekends screwed up. You guys are still welcome to come over next weekend on Saturday for the Le Mans start and F1 qualifying. Let me know.

Thanks,
Erik

Qualifying from Montreal will start at noon after our drive. I'll record it and make my home available after the event to watch it. That and Le Mans coverage continues that afternoon. It will BYOB, but I can supply chips and dip if there is enough interest. My next door neighbor peddles BMW's and there are 2 P-bug convertibles down the street, so you can feel safe leaving the cars out front. Anyone interested?

It looks like we'll get some out-of-towners (Nashville, Memphis, Birmingham, and possibly others) for this event, which is great, so we'll probably want to make it more than just a Saturday morning drive and film shoot.

We'll make the hotel of choice the
Radisson Suite Hotel Huntsville
6000 Memorial Parkway South
Huntsville, Alabama 35802
Phone: 256-882-9400

Standard rate for Friday night is $77 but I'll work on getting a better group rate.

We'll have group dinner Friday evening at the hotel (or at a restaurant just across the way) at 7:30pm (social preceding at 6:30pm). On Saturday morning, the film crew will meet us at the hotel (likely around 7am) and do some static shots and some driver interviews (no pressure if you DON'T want to get interviewed on camera).

We'll hit the road, and besides some shots from the moving camera van that they'll want, we'll probably have three or four "stop and setup" shots along the route, including one where we're coming over the crest of a hill and a couple of others where we're rounding curves. Bring your FRS radio (channel 3, sub 08) and I'll also have a few to loan out.

After the camera crew leaves, we'll continue our drive without further interruption and return to Huntsville for a lunch/brunch to wind things up.

If you have suggestions, please let me know!

Well, if it rains we'll reschedule, so you might get another chance.

Beautiful Daytona, by the way...

I just hate the fact that the Ferrari swap meet in Atlanta is the same day as the Saturday morning drive in Huntsville. Just a little tough to make both events.

The producer/director is coming down this Saturday afternoon, so I won't be going to Nashville Eurofest. He wants to be taken around the route so he can figure out what he wants to do for camera angles and shots, segments, etc.

Hi Mike,

Count me in. I've been meaning to come up to one of your weekend drives for quite a while and this sounds like a perfect opportunity to get involved with the group.

Thanks,

On June 21st we have a Summer Saturday Morning Country Drive scheduled in the Huntsville/Hampton Cove and surrounding countryside.

I have been contacted by the producer of the new television show "Full Throttle TV" currently under development, to film a segment with our cars. It will be somewhat similar to what was done in Dallas which can be viewed by clicking here (Windows Media Player required to view the streaming video). Their producer is coming down probably this weekend to scope out the route and plan the shoot. Unlike our usual drives, we'll have a few "stops and starts" for the benefit of the cameraman and setups.

We need a good showing with a big group! We need folks to come up from Birmingham and down from Tennessee for this one, and of course Atlanta folks would be welcome too. Please let me know if you think you'll be able to make it. Edited video will be provided to participants. Details are at our websites at
www.fca-se.com and www.fca-se.org
