Stephane, you can get a dash cover for your 348 at www.italiancarparts.com . I got one for my 328, 348, TR and Boxer there. I do not think 1/2 of the 348s have been scrapped . I would bet it is less than 10%. Not driving a 348 in the sunlight is a little more anal than just treating it with "great care" IMHO. Further, since you have installed a Tubi on your car it isn't much of a "concours" car now anyway. I treated my first Dino 328 like you are treating your 348 now. Trust me, in the long run you will regret it as you won't get any more money for your car when you sell it plus you will have gotten less enjoyment out of the car by not driving it much. Drive it and enjoy. There is no replay or rewind in life you know !

Frank,

I agree with Terry as well, but there is a certain satisfaction you get knowing that you own a concours car, whether it be a mass produced Fiat or a Ferrari 250GTO....In my case, I wouldn't exactly consider 4230 348's that massly produced, specially since half of them have already ended up at Ted Rutland's warehouse....Because I have always had high respect for the marque, I will continue treating it with great care, and not like any other car I have owned, Ferraris are very special and unique.... On the dashcover issue, believe me, if I could find one like John's, I would pay top dollar for it, they have been out of production for years.....

Take care Frank,

Stephane

You could always use a dash cover (even a towel or trimmed piece of terrycloth).

Stephane, I agree with Terry. Drive the car and repair what happens as a result thereof. I have had the dash repaired on two of my Ferraris for only a few hundred dollars each. I now use a dash mat on my Boxer to protect against such sun damage. That's not much to pay to enjoy driving your car. While I don't like to drive my Boxer in the rain, if I get caught in the rain, I don't run home. Mass production Ferraris such as your 348 are depreciating assets anyway. Drive it and enjoy. If you want a collector car, buy a 250GTO or something.

Stephane, I fully understand and respect the desire to take fanatical care of your car. Im a charter member of that club!

Get yourself some high quality wax, and keep lots of it on your car. That will go a long ways toward protecting the paint. Then buy a high quality carpet dash cover like the one John Delvac has. That will protect your leather dash from shrinkage. No more worries!

there is nothing that can go wrong that cant be fixed, usually easier than you may suppose. Example: My Daytona windshield leaks a tiny bit of water if left out in a torrential downpour. This has happened twice in the past 4 months, resulting in very ugly water stains to the mousehair dash. Panic! I was really bummed when it first happened. Last week, after consulting some experts on ways to repair this I tackled it in a re-dye project. It took me a couple of hours, but it came out perfect. Now it looks better than when I got it.

Yes, I understand...I guess there are still many levels of enjoying a Ferrari .....What about the guy that parked his F40 permantently in his sealed living room to never drive it again....That my friend, has to be the worst case of "graceland" mentality!!

Frank, you called me about my Tubi on my 348 last year, remember? Stephane Pedaggi, 348 TS owner.....Sorry if I offended by leaving early, but I don't enjoy seeing my car's paint and dash bake under that hot sun, I've seen what it did to a Lotus I had years ago, and when I saw that 355 with staples in the dash, I had flashbacks....Great show, but what's wrong with a later time in the dead heat of summer??????????

It's the "Graceland" mentality Terry.

If you've ever been to Memphis and visited Graceland, they don't allow flash photography in the house as it might fade the upholstery and drapes!

Hell, who cares about a little dash shrinkage?

I dunno who it was Frank.... but he left almost as soon as he arrived. Apparently, he said he didnt want to have his car out in the sunshine as it was bad for it.

I was pretty much floored. I have heard of folks not wanting to drive their cars in the rain.... but not wanting to take it out because its sunny? So lets see... dont drive in rain, dont drive in sunshine.... I guess you can only drive on clear evenings.

Oh well, to each his own its a free country!

Of the cars in those photos my vote would be for the 512TR of my friend Brian or that lovely 365GTB4.
I used to own the Mondial 3.2 silver coupe that is one of those shots. It still looks well kept!

Did any of you guys vote? Neither Kirk nor I voted at all, neither did my father or the 2 other friends who dropped by. When I registered they did not give me a ballot.

Next year Im gonna vote and invite every human being I know to come and vote too. I may even bribe them to vote for me! Big Trophy make Big Wampum!

I'll be there. The 911 wont be ready in time for the PCA track weekend....

I'll probably bring the Daytona and maybe the 308 too. Depends on if my father wants to drive the 308 down.

Do I need to do anything else for registration?

Oh no! I'm sorry but my wife and I are doing a CPR class that Saturday. I'll have to pass until the 5th annual show. I still have the same ol' rust bucket I had last year :-(

Last year's event was great, especially when some attendees were "shamed" into driving their cars in the rain :-)
