Jordan,
Sorry, but I have to leave it as just "Aviation" (and model collecting). I see you have a future as an airline pilot. Go for it!

Hey Mule, this is off topic, but what do you do in Aviation?

DES,
My pleasure. A good thing about models is that they are like 3-D history.

DES,
F1 History:

1995 Canadian GP, Jean Alesi wins, but his car runs out of fuel on the cool down lap. Micheal Schumacher stops and gives him a lift.

Upload

1999, BAR Honda sponsor, British American Tobacco has two main brands - Lucky Strike and 555. F1 says both cars must be painted the same, but BAR wants both. The "zipper" car, half of each, including different color wheels on each side. Driver and mechanic suits all split the same way with large painted on zipper.

Upload

1978 - Brabham realizes that the car needs to grip the road so they find out that the huge fan at the rear of the car for cooling instead of an air scoop, also sucks the car to the road if they put rubber skirts around the edges. Opposite effect of a hovercraft. Banned after one race because of huge advantage.

Upload

F1 tobacco ban in some countries, leads West McLaren sponsorship to be replaced with driver names in West script. Mechanics all wear "Team" in West script also. Transporter says, "Truck". Lucky Strike says, "Look Alike", while Benson and Hedges says "Be on Edge" by blacking out letters. For USGP after 9/11 it said "Bitten Heroes". "David, Kimi, Jean (test drive), Mika, Nick (Goodwood Festival of Speed)".

LOL, Mule...

It sounds like you're more calculated than i am, when i comes to collecting... It seems you have more patience than i do, too... Sounds like a really cool collection... i hope you'll take pictures and post when your shelves and everything else are completed... Thanks for sharing... This is a great thread...

DES,
As far as displaying them, I have some plain bookshelves (save the money for the models). When I move back to Alaska, I hope to have the stereotypical library with shelves, bear skin rug, and big moose head over the fireplace. That's where they will be.

Tyson,
Thank you also for the kind words.

DES,
1. I bought the transporters from 7 different companies and Ebay for one of them. I figure out what I would like, how many there are in the series or style, then start searching the internet or calling companies in magazines. You can see from the pictures, that I stick to one subject and try to complete it. Helps keep me in one lane at a time. Example: Minichamps Michael Schumacher Collection in 1/43. Did some internet searches on which models were made (about 11 Ferraris), then start finding them one at a time. Bad news is sometimes I cant find one or two, which is frustrating. The Ferrari 333SPs for example; I found the last one 4 years after starting.

I usually put a list next to the computer to remind me to look for something when I check my mail. I also check car dealers (Mercedes, Ferrari, Audi) and always look in the toy section of any store or at the mall. Not obsessive, but if the opportunity is there. I found a lot of 1/18 models marked down at KB Toys and Toys R Us.

I actually have a list of everything I have, but also another list of things I dont from research. Like over 50 models made by Bang; the whole line, so I know what to look for if I wanted to start collecting them.

2. I was in a Hot Wheels store about 7 years ago, and bought a 1/64 Schumacher and a 1/64 Senna. The owner said the Formula 1 stuff never sold anyway. That started me with the Senna and Schumacher collections and it spread.

i always wondered where one acquires the Ferrari transporters... Mule, i have two questions, if you don't mind...
1. How did you acquire most of your collection...? the internet or toy stores or...?

2. How long have you been collecting...?

Thanks again for sharing; oh, one more question: what is your intention, as far as displaying your collection...? Are you actively thinking about putting up shelves or dedicating a room in the house to it or...? i'd love to see pictures when it's all done...

...WOW, dude...! This is an awesome collection...! The Audis and Ferraris are my favorites...! i remember when i saw a 1:18 Audi Infineon R8 in The Sharper Image some months ago; i was so stoked to have it and be able to add it to my collection... but you...! Dude, you have so many, it's awesome...! If it had a collection like that, i would need to own a house and have different rooms for different marques...! Very, very cool pictures of a very, very cool collection, thank you very much for sharing... :-)
