Thanks!

Getting them off is just a question of brute force. There is no way to get them off without breaking anything. That's why the new wheels have to be glued on and of course won't turn anymore. The rears kinda pop in, the fronts have some screws, but ultimately there is always something, that will break.

BTW: Look at my first picture and the dimensions of the wheels, they look to narrow for my taste anyway. Maybe that's what original wheels looked like, I dunno (my car has bigger dimensions ones), kinda whimpy.

Thanks Augustine. I take my time doing these jobs. Really worked hours were about a day, but I always do just one paint or glue job per day and then let it sit and dry for 24 hours.

Anyway, the most difficult part was doing a nice paint job around the center console and the seat belts. I tried not to cover the instruments on the center console but get as close as possible.

As I mentioned before, if you think about doing this yourself, write down where each screw came from and also don't be afraid of loosing steerability of the front wheels.

Andreas,
That is amazing! I have always been more for cars being left stock but I am definitely impressed. How long did the whole conversion take you? What was the most difficult part? I've toyed with the idea of customizing a model to match my car but I really don't have the know-how. Awesome job!

Ok, here are the many pics:

The tapes hold the new wheels in place until the epoxy dries. The real car doesn't have the wheels yet, that's for next summer. Nor did I mount the spacers yet, but that will come. However the disc brakes are wishful thinking.

The front grille is darkened, the turn signals made Euro style and the bumper painted. On the real car I still need to recess the bumper accordingly.

Tan interior with Titanium shift know (as in the original) and aluminum racing pedals.

Front louvres and wing painted. Rear wing added. One mirror lost...

S/F shields added:

One original front tire upside down as spare (as in the original car) and washer fluid back in place.

Sheesh, it actually should read bottom part.

Anyway, work continued and I changed my mind about the spare tire: I put it in the front as it is in the real car, upside down. Otherwise there is no room for the window washer fluid container.

Added some 'Schedoni' luggage set: The 348 GTB comes with a tool set similar to Schedoni luggage, had to repaint it in the 308's interior leather style and sand it down to make it fit into the trunk.

BTW: If you plan a project like this, break off the two side mirrors before you start, then put them in a safe place and glue them back on after completion. I didn't do that and somewhere during this operation broke both of them off unknowingly. Now I have to search my carpet for them.

PS: Starting to realize that this thread is pointless without further pictures. Don't worry, I'll work on that too.

Work continued on the 308. Painting is basically done, now it is time to reassemble. A tip in case you try to do the same thing:

Make a plan showing from what location you took which screw. They all differ in size and it does matter what goes where. Couldn't screw the buttom part back in, so had to glue it (it used to be partially glue before anyway) and once the front and rear bumpers are back in, they'll hold the buttom part anyway.

Also I had to use excessive force to knock the wheels and brakes off as I'm replacing them with different ones. Because of that I lost steering capability (as usual).

A little note on the spare wheel: As mentioned before they give you the wrong wheel, so I'm using one of the front wheels instead, which is accurate. However in the real 308 the spare wheel is 'upside down' in the compartment, which you can't really do with the front wheel as the inside is not detailed. So mine will be the wrong way in the compartment, oh well.

My 308GTB came in yesterday from Exoticar with the windshield knocked out. I was bummed, but glued it back in.

Picked it up last night to show the Ferrari bikini girl all was OK now, dropped it on the floor and the windshield fell out!

I think I'll go downstairs and work on the real one! LOL

LOL, Russ...!

In all seriousness though, i don't think i could have that job... As unyeildingly cool as it would probably be, i definitely don't know enough and i don't think i'm able to retain enough to fill a position like that... It would be cool, though... :-)

Yes World Champ. Oh so true.

I woke up this morning realizing, that my count would be oh so close. Now I can rest for at least a year.

Sadly for you my friend, the ride is over: You have plateaued. Like Richard Gere in Officer and a Genlteman you 'got nowhere else to go!'.

Darrell, you could do that with e.g. a dremel tool. Look at my picture, the body is one unit and the roof could be cut out. You got to be careful with the rear window, but I would think it is doable. Actually thinking about it, the way I'd do this is like the original is: Leave the roll bar (which holds the rear window) and the rim for the front window. So it is basically a straight cut through metal and plastic (for the inner roof). No problem with a dremel.

My car is a GTS, but I had the roof painted (really always wanted a GTB, but hard to find) and rarely drive 'topless', so this model is closer to reality for me.

Am I a F1 veteran now?

Andreas.. I assume your model is the 308 GTB. I have a GTS and would like a model of the car. Do you think it is possible to somehow remove the roof on the model to make it into a Spyder version?

It's all matter of attitude I guess. Once you have applied your electric drill to the red skin of your real Ferrari, unscrewing a Kyosho is child's play.

Andreas, that's awesome... i completely disassembled my 1:18 Diablo 30th Anniversary Edition years ago and put it all back together - only to find that i put the steering column in backwards...!

i don't know if i have the ___ to disassemble a Kyosho model or ANY one of my Ferrari models for that matter...

Just got this beautiful model, which is so detailed in every way. Except, that it comes with the wrong interior. At least for my car, which is tan, not black. So I started to take it apart to be able to repaint the interior. Not easy with this model: Many, many screws and some stuff is glued or linked together. I was able to take it all apart, but broke the steering column and ripped off some cables going to the engine (that I should be able to fix). If you want to try the same, please note, that you first have to remove the front wing and the muffler at the exhaust to find the second level of screws. Once those are gone, the third level of screws holds the cabin in. Only after three levels of screws will it all come apart:

I'll keep you posted about the progress. The goal is to end up with something fairly close to my own car.
